Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Just got back to the game after a meeting. This looks like more fun than pricing automobile insurance in Iowa.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 OH, I'm pissed if I'm a Marlins fan.Of course, I only exist in theory if I'm a Marlins fan.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Rojas: "We benched Smith and McNeil because we've got to get guys like Villar and Pillar in some games." Also Rojas: On pace to pitch Castro and May in 120 games each this yearOn the pre-game radio show, when asked by Ed Coleman about the starter they had never seen before, Rojas said "We have video of him and our advance scouts told us what he throws".Really? Did they watch those tapes? Did they read the scouting reports? Does this guy throw a kind of pitch they've never heard of before? Obviously they either didn't watch, didn't learn anything, or, as I have said often when they are embarrassed by a pitcher they haven't seen before, their advance scouting is incompetent. When we had a thread of what we would do as the new owner, I mentioned firing those scouts. I'd say the same thing today.Later

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Kind of feel a bit dirty about this win.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 From a strategy standpoint, that's exactly why I hate intentionally walking the bases loaded in walk-off situations. REALLY happy to see Jeff get his first hit in style. (PS he only has one strikeout, and the .000 BABIP can literally only go up.)

Saturday gonna be interesting. Let's just hope they're not pre-warned and deGrom get's stupidly prematurely ejected by accidentally grazing someone.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Oh good, this will be discussed and debated for 48 hours, then.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Conforto is going to be hated by the Marlins fans for a long time. (Until and unless they sign him as a free agent this winter.)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 (edited) Don's got a gripe, here.Well, yes and no.Yes in that the umps should have called it. No in that they can't use replay to interpret a judgement call like intent. And that's just one more flaw of replay use; that once you dip your toe into it, the trend towards feeling that EVERY call should be reviewed marches steadily on until the whole idea of "limited replay", which is what sold the idea in the first place, gets erased. On the play itself, that call has been under-called for years if not decades ... so I don't feel too dirty winning the game via one.Chase Utley and Craig Biggio were the worst offenders, but they had plenty of company.oe: it could have been worse I suppose, he could have taken a page out of Jacoby Ellsbury's book and simply aimed for the catcher's glovewith his swing and gotten on that way. Ellsbury led the league in those for several years running and almost all of them just happened tocome with 2 strikes on him. Edited April 8, 2021 by Guest

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 GKR sound embarrassed to take the win. I kinda am too. But to be honest, that McNeil bomb was so good it should be worth 2 runs alone.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Cheap wins are still wins. The way this team is playing you take what you can get. No hits with RISP today.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Sometimes you hit the ball with RISP, sometimes the ball hits you.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 As shitty ways to walkoff go, it probably still beats the extra-inning win featuring a fake runner on second.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Just glad it didn't go to the tenth with Familia lurking out there in the bullpen humming the theme from Jaws.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I expect Conforto to deny everything despite the Zabruder film examinations to follow.Who, Moi?
