MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Thor pitched four one-hit innings in his first rehab start for St.Lucie (low A) today.Unfortunately, top catching prospect Francisco Alvarez was benched, probably because he was only hitting .450.Wouldn't it have been nice for Alvarez to catch him, to enhance his familiarity with a major league pitcher's thought process when facing a hitter?Terrible decision, IMO, for whoever made it.Later

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 More interesting is that, starting against Syndergaard and his St. Lucie teammates, playing left field for the Palm Beach Cardinals, was a handsome prospect with the unlikely name of "Tommy Jew."

I don't have a case. It's completely irrelevant. How desperate to have an opinion must one be to argue a "terrible decision" was made either way?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 J.D. Davis is playing 1B for Syracuse tonight, not 3B or LF, I guess so w/Pete out Villar can stay at 3B and Dom can stay in LF. J.D. has 2 errors already. https://www.milb.com/gameday/ironpigs-vs-mets/2021/05/22/646306#game_state=live,game_tab=,game=646306https://www.milb.com/gameday/ironpigs-vs-mets/2021/05/22/646306#game_state=live,game_tab=,game=646306He also blasted a HR.Can someone help me understand why JD would play 1B when Dom is a "plus" fielder at 1B and JD is new to the position? JD is better at 3B than 1B, Dom is better at 1B than LF, and Villar seems to be the same at 2d or 3d so they are doing this because playing Dom at 1B and JD at 3d would mean that Moe, Larry and Johneshwy are the OF'ers (which is awful) and/or to keep Peraza/Tovar in the lineup at 2B. Is that it?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Setback for Zimmo. That sucks

Is that it?Because Dom Smith is due to get hurt this week...In all seriousness. I don't get how we've managed a situation where when Pete Alonso is out and Dom isn't playing all the innings at first. The sequence where he was moved out of 1st because Tovar came in boggles the mind. Tovar and Gsellman in on Double SwitchTovar to 2ndVillar to 3rdDrury to 1stDom to LFMaybin to RFBrandon Drury has STARTED 102 in the OF in the majorsHe has STARTED 15 at 1st in the majorsTovar has played 51 games at 3rd in the minors. So if you ARE resistant wouldn't you just put Tovar at 3rd and Drury in Right. .... I know it's hard to keep on top of the all the moving parts, but jeez.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 This is bad. Being the Mets' strength and conditioning coach is like being the head nutritionist on the Donner Party.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Maybe JD is headed to play 1B somewhere else?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 hmmm.Big integrity test for the Mom's Basement Press Association. Not a bad idea if he's on the block. But why would JD be a 1B were he to be traded to a team losing its 3B?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Do the Mariners have an extra 3B and are missing a 1B?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Author Posted May 24, 2021 For all I know, Seager to the Mets will happen, but @toogooden17, cited in the above link, is doing what amounts to a brilliant performance art piece this entire season, acting the part of “Mets beat reporter for the Washington Examiner” on Twitter and letting people believe it. It started under the pretense that if he posted lineups and injury updates seconds after Anthony DiComo, et al, that was enough to make him (or anybody) a Mets beat reporter. It's kind of taken on a life of its own since.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Conforto's agent's advice seemingly didn't work out.McNeil is a bad situation, because he's one of three guys in the last few weeks who aggravated an injury trying to play hurt. Conforto too, I guess, but it wasn't public knowledge that he was trying to play through something.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 http://leaptoad.com/mets/starting_pitcher_graph.php?year=2021>On this chart, you can literally see how the Mets rotation has crumbled in May.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 This isn't all the doing of injuries, though. There's some haphazardness in the deployment that just doesn't serve the situation.
