Sub-tweeting is referring to somebody without tagging them in said tweet. Pretty on-brand that Bauer took it to "ALL HUMAN BEINGS MATTER"

Edit: Also, did fman say that Alonso deleted social media today?

Yeah, as a, perhaps, monthly Twitter visitor — with all the Twitter sophistication that might imply — I imagine I didn't grab all of the relevant exchanges there, so if anyone has any more to display, please go at it. Garry Sheffield's in that thread, too. Weird.

Hopefully Jae Weong Seo jumps in and sets everybody straight.

Somewhat besides the point, but... Stroman RESPONDED directly to his tweets, and the tweets of others in his thread. He didn't subtweet a damn thing. Funny that Mr. Extreeeeemely Online messed THAT up, too.

I think they are arguing about politics on Twitter and it went bad.

Which is surprising because usually talking politics online is so productive.

I'm blocked by Stroman, which is odd because I've been very positive about him, and I avoid anything Bauer posts.

I think the media and fans are making more out of what a Bauer/Stroman teammate relationship would have been like. But the crux of whatever "feud" they seemingly had on Twitter seemed to revolve around race. Like many these days, Bauer seems to revel in being a douchebag and provocateur.

It seems to me that Bauer is much more likely to not act like an adult and professional. There is a difference between not agreeing with the views of someone on the team and being an African American having to deal with a teammate who may constantly spout racial and political views hoping to incite a reaction.

Put me down for wishing Bauer was a Met. He was sublime last season, the kind of sublime that I don't think was flukish, just like I thought that Daniel Murphy's 2015 metamorphosis wasn't flukish, either.

I know Bauer's a douchebag. I'm not sure I care. Or not care enough to be glad he signed elsewhere. And it would be kind of a fun diversion to go through whatever verbal shenanigans and hijinx ensues. I just endured four years of a fucking madman in charge of this country. This is small-fry stuff, by comparision.

OOOOOh. Bauer said that.

Besides, just think how Bauer would pep up just this forum.

Indulging douchebags and treating their bullshit as merely colorful or something that peps things up is what gave us the fucking madman. At a deeper level, it also gives us Derek Chauvin.

I'm not sure how an organization can justify setting digital miscreants in the front office afloat while giving Bauer the biggest paycheck in baseball history.

He's encouraged people to kill themselves, while siccing social media bullies on them. I'll enjoy my team opposing him a LOT more than watching my team rely on him.

Let us reward public douchebags with the public marginalization they deserve.

All good points. I agree. But I have no control over where Bauer signs, or signed. Not even a speck. If Bauer signed with the Mets, it wouldn't have been because of anything I said or did. What would you do if Bauer signed with the Mets? Would you boycott the Mets? Not follow them? Root for the O's, instead? Leave this forum? Burn your Mets baseball cards?

I wouldn't vote Bauer for President. (Unless he was the Democratic candidate).

I'd probably take the good with the bad, and publicly advocate against his douchiness, as I did with Harvey. I've invested more in this team than he has. Fuck him.

I'm under no illusion that the Mets haven't seen a parade of miscreants pass through, some even staying a while. But as long as he's not a Met, I'm advocating that he not be one.

I hope that's consistent enough.

A poll on how we feel about the Mets not getting Trevor Bauer might be interesting.

Four or five carefully worded choices? I'd do it, but I'm not in the mood to be humiliated,

ridiculed and/or bulleted with questions if the choices don't 'measure up to some.'

So then we're pretty much alike, there. I'd call him out, too, for his douchiness. But I'd still root for the Mets to win when he pitches and if he pitches anything like he did last year, I'd treat his Mets starts as must-see TV.

The Mets clearly didn't have the same concerns since they offered him the contract. But after the Porter and Calloway relevations -- and knowing the other one would come to light -- the optics of signing a known cyber bully are pretty awful. An organization undergoing reputation repair shouldn't seek a player like that.

This season will also be the tenth anniversary (already) of teams (including the Mets) partnering with anti-bullying initiatives.

Steve Cohen bummed over Mets' Trevor Bauer miss

By Ken Davidoff

If the Mets can cross the finish line with Francisco Lindor on a $300-million-plus extension, the shortstop will become the first nine-figure player commitment of the Steve Cohen Era. Yet if the Mets' new owner had his way, that milestone already would be reached…with Trevor Bauer.

In a question-and-answer session with Mets radiocaster Wayne Randazzo published Monday, Cohen expressed his surprise and disappointment that the team didn't land the 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner in free agency.

“Obviously we wanted to get Bauer and we made a heck of a bid,” Cohen said. “I thought we had him.”

The Post's Joel Sherman first reported that the Mets believed they would land Bauer after offering him $105 million over three years. However, the Southern California native went to his hometown Dodgers for $102 million over three years. The Dodgers deal, like the Mets' package, features opt-outs after both 2021 and 2022.

I wonder what the Mets off-season would've been like had the Wilpons managed to hold on to the team for another season?

And who here'd be still sticking up for the Wilpons?

That's sort of it, yeah.
