I certainly hope they're not looking at him being the number one catcher.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Nah. Has never been a great hitter, and is getting worse now.If we don't get Realmuto or McCann, I'd go for a youngish, cheapish defense first guy to pair along with Nido.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Nine gold gloves at a premium position. It'd be foolish to not at least show enough interest to bid St. Louis up.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I don't wanna even think about Yaddie Molina

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 His bat is trending downward, as you would expect at his age, and his defense is no longer much better than average (although still impressively good for a catcher his age). Honestly, he's a hard person for fans of any other team to dislike. He wouldn't be the worst fit if I knew the catcher of the future was starting the year in Binghamton or Syracuse. I'm really not sure where Francisco Alvarez is at going into 2021, but that could influence how heavily I'd invest in the position -- especially if I thought it would take seven years to get Realmuto. So, holding my nose and doing due diligence.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 I would guess that Realmuto could be had for five years, but who knows?
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I always thought he was cute. I think it was him

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I understand why they're talking to him but he's not the guy you'd want as your #1, even for just one year.I strongly suspect he'll wind up back in StL as they'd be the most likely to give him a two-year send off contract. On the other hand they were perfectly willing to allow Pujols to walk and never had a reason to doubt that move.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Have the St. Louis papers photoshopped him into other teams' uniforms yet?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I say they sign him and then Gilooly him, take out the kneecaps. Say, there you go, how you like that? Hit that home run off of Aaron Heilman, do ya? Leave him writhing in the street with the Mets jersey over the shirt and tie.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Oh sweet Mother of Pearl, no.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 At this stage in his career, only as a desperate, last resort.
