seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Plus those two games over the weekend sucked and I had nobody to bitch about it with.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Hooray!Now that we're back, they'll win

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I think it had been a while since I've watched a game on ESPN. I mostly saw the innings when Hank Aaron was in the booth. For how long has ESPN been enhancing the sound of the ball hitting the bat or the catcher's glove? It's ridiculously cartoonish. Also, they showed a photo of a young Aaron with Jackie Robinson. They asked him if the photo had been taken in Brooklyn or Milwaukee, but Aaron had a B on his cap. Did he ever suit up as a member of the Boston Braves?https://i.pinimg.com/originals/74/5a/f9/745af94190f424c05a6c9ff24d408495.jpg>By the way... nice hat on that guy in the background!
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Nope. Saw that elsewhere - it's Sam Jethroe, apparently.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 You could hire three people out of a Freshmen A/V club that could put together a better broadcast.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I have to admit, I find Arod's admiration for baseball genuine and enjoy his takes as a broadcaster. He went about baseball all wrong as a player but I think in part because he was so in love with it he was a fool. Contrast him with say Joe Morgan whom I really admired as a player but turned out to be a regressive and bad color commentator. My ESPN dream team would be Jon Miller and Arod. They'd be great together!
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 One of our longer (and unnecessary) outages, it's good to be back. Hosting company claimed our domain registration for thecranepool.net expired in 2018and also expired in March 2019, They wanted a back year's registration and a new year'sregistration and a $70 domain redemption fee on top of that. After two days they cameto the realization that our domain is included with our hosting services plan the domain name doesn't expire until 2021. Assclowns.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I thought that this was a review of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball but it applies here, too. Sorry that you had to deal with those assclowns.

We don't even know what he saw, but his answer was like, "uh, I think Milwaukee." ESPN screwed that one up
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I liked hearing from Aaron, though.

(It was one of the "___ for Dummies" series.)When I saw the book, I thought it was his autobiography.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 I've said this before, but the problem with ESPN's SNB isn't the announcers. Well, sometimes it is but that largely a matter of taste and mostly fans take that stuff too seriously. The bigger problem is that ESPN doesn't think you tuned in to watch a baseball game, they think you tuned in to watch ESPNIn their view you tuned in to see ESPN announcers and other ESPN personalities do their schticks, to see ESPN graphics (and sound effects), to read the ESPN crawl and to check out the promos on upcoming events to be shown on ... wait for it ... ESPNShould they, as the linked YAHOO article states, have checked out the Aaron/Jethroe photo and have realized that Hank never played in Boston? Sure, except that they've all but severed themselves from anything that's not football or basketball so the odds have having anyone that who would know that is pretty small at this point.
