Mets nearing a deal to bring back Carlos Gomez on a minor league deal.

Efforts to locate Kevin Mulvey still pending.

Whenever I read about this guy, it takes me a minute to figure out if it's the guy we traded away or the guy that plays for Colorado.

Rajai Davis and now Gomez?

I'm sniffing a last-week-of-spring Lagares trade.

Wait, cargo shorts were out of fashion? When did that happen?

Dads rejoice, but somewhere Wilmer is weeping.

FWIW, I just checked and Wilmer has a double, two singles, two walks, and a HBP in nine plate appearances this spring, and he's scored four and driven in four.

He's going to have a breakout season, isn't he? DAMMIT.

He's probably done at this point (meaning Carlos Gomez, not any cargo pants-wearing CPFers). But it's no risk, and he could surprise us.

What shorts are cool?

Levi's cut-offs are cool if not ruined by the length (too long or short), excessive holes or fraying, the wrong goddamn shoes, or the right goddamn shoes, but with socks that go are goofily long.

Dickies shorts are "manly" (sturdy and straight!) without having bulky, cargo-style thigh pockets that no one ever uses for shit.

After that, there are shorts that can be worn at the gym or the beach or hiking or playing basketball, but none that can make an argument for being cool.

Is that Blondie?

I have two pairs of Cargo shorts. I didn't know they were Cargo shorts

until this morning.

Regarding Cargo's defense: once he had range, and it was a gas.

Next thing youse guys is gonna tell me is that bike shorts aren't in fashion!

A big part of Cargo's value during his prime was in his defense.

Second hand info sez that he's not nearly on that level these days which, if true, doesn't make him all that useful strictly as a CF glove.

I don't remember Harry being so luciously leggy for some reason.

Stark anatomical contrast to the far right in that first pic.

I know a lot of you guys are dads, but I didn't think you guys were such Dads. Yeesh, the cargo thing. Outside of beach/hot-weather-active situations... give me breathable fitted pants with some give-- UniQlo does nice ones, as a cheap staple-- and I'm good.

Also, isn't CarGo more of a Carlos Gonzalez thing?

Gomez issued No. 85, at least for now. Perhaps a nod to his birth year.

I was surprised to see that Gomez is still only 33 years old. And a young 33 having just turned in December. I feel like he was a good player for many years, but looking back only really had 2 great season (2013 and 2014). Was chugging along ok in 2015 (.751 OPS) until he was traded, then he hit a wall and was terrible with Houston over parts of 2 seasons.

He did have a bit of a resurgence in Texas and had an .827 OPS over 550 ABs. But then played in TB last year and went back to being terrible.

Looks not a day older than the day we traded him. I wonder if he can still play CF.

Signings like this make me think Omar's actually making all the decisions (in partnership with Fred, natch) and Brodie is just there to give the right answers when asked about it.

Doesn't sound much different than the way it probably was during Alderson's last years.

During today's game, Wayne Randazzo reported the still not quite active for work visa reasons Carlos Gomez has grabbed 23. He is listed without number on mets.com, where Keon Broxton is still 23

Such intrigue...
