Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Nah, I've already booked passage on the Lusitania II. It's scheduled to get me there in plenty of time, but even if things go the way they did with the first one I can just swim the last couple of miles.Fortunately, I think German U-Boat activity in the Irish Sea is down these days so I'm not that worried.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 I checked to see how these games fit into the 2019 schedule (of course, it's the MFYs and Red Sox and they are treated like royalty): both teams have home day games on Wednesday and are then off Thursday and Friday. The games are Saturday at 1:10 PM (Eastern) and Sunday at 10:10 AM (Eastern). The teams are off on Monday and have road games on Tuesday (Boston in Toronto and the MFYs at Citi Field).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 The Mets have played in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and now possibly England.Next up has got to be Australia, right?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 London is a fantastic city. If I hadn't just been there in 2017 I'd seriously consider going there to see the Mets in 2020.But since I was there recently, I'm just casually considering it.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I'm going to be in Scotland at the end of June and thought about trying to make it down to London for the MLB series, but eff that.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I'd go in a heartbeat.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2019 Author Posted May 22, 2019 Nope--it will be the Cardinals and the Cubs next year in London.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 These https://www.londonmets.org/ Mets will play in London.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Also, when MLB teams play in London, they should play British Baseball rules.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 So I just got home and turned on the Yanx/Sawx from London (didn't realize it was starting so early). If this really started at 1:00 EDT as my TV sked shows then these Englishmen have to be wondering how we can sit through games that might never actually end cuz it's nowmore than two hours in and they're in the top of the 4th. Now granted there's been a lot of scoring (8-6 Yanx) but I'm not sure cricket games run this long and cricket games havebeen known to cover several days at a time. I've been watching for five minutes now and I think the same batter who was up when I tuned in just flied out like four seconds ago.btw, advertising all over the unis: dueling shoulder patches, helmet decals, hat ads, and who knows what else.Big FOX is televising
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 So they just mentioned that pitch number #205 had been thrown in the game (two teams combined). Now up over 210Again, Top of the 4th!!!!And now it's 12-6 ... and it's still the top of the 4th!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Just now, the 5th inning is beginning ... nearly 30 minutes after I tuned in when the 4th was already well underway.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 They're now in the 8th inning in London, Yanx lead 17-13It may already be tomorrow over there. Either that or it's next Tuesday, I'm not sure.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 So this game is being held at the Olympic stadium that they used for the 2016 games, which was then re-fit to be the home park for West Ham United. Now when they go, as the saying goes, to Chelsea for they replay review (as they just did), does that mean the replay umps are over in the soccer stadium across town?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 From that score, it sounds like they played it at YS III.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 It's such a typical score for Major League Baseball in Britain.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 From ESPN:The game took 4 hours, 42 minutes -- the third-longest nine-inning game in MLB history. The two games that took longer also were Yankees-Red Sox games, with the record being 4:45 on Aug. 18, 2006.why we sent htose two teams of wankers over there to make everyone think baseball takes forever i don't know.
