  1. My town is it's own baseball thing, not officially little league. my daughter (well, mine too) t-ball team was just the 'Midland Park Panthers' I guess, sponsored by the local Vet. I think at the higher levels it's just one team and they play other towns. I'm not sure what they do inbetween though, probably just call 'em by the sponsor. That's what we did on Long Island when I was a kid. We were 'Caldwell Bankers' and my favorite 'Carvel Ice Cream'
  2. I know no one thinks about these things roughly ever, but they probably should've drawn all the team names from the non AL East/NL East teams. Or hey, name them after the Japanese league teams.
  3. sure, but you're especially _not_ going to pitch them in the 9th of 6th run games.

  5. see? LF Jeff McNeil 1B Pete Alonso RF Michael Conforto C Wilson Ramos CF Brandon Nimmo 2B Joe Panik 3B Todd Frazier SS Luis Guillorme RHP Jacob deGrom But he's not starting, which is dumb?
  6. =bmfc1 post_id=20706 time=1567539744 user_id=73] Does the absence of a Mets lineup so far have anything to do with Cano?
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Oh, I got bad news. Biz trip to Vegas in 2 weeks then in October looks like we're moving ... to Queens which is the bad news? ;-) Thor didn't help, but there was some offensive malaise, and some bad luck, outhitting teams but not bunching them, or only bunching them with 2 outs already.
  8. yeah, if Nimmo's healthy and up to speed, he needs to be up top somewhere. But I think he has more power than McNeil though, I'd probably slide him second. I put Panik nowhere near anything, ever. Especially with the roster crunch impending. It's a shame McNeil isn't in position to fake it at SS, because they could use every spot on the field to rotate guys through without really having to use a bench guy. No one really cares about Ramos' hit streak, but given that there's probably going to be a good hitter on the bench every day, you don't really need to pinch hit him.
  9. Where are you reading that? since 2012 it's got a Park Factor of 97 on Fangraphs, (so slightly pitcher friend_ for HR, but was dead 100 for 2016-2018.
  10. http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2019/08/26/hitting-mets-pitchers-incredible-the/Keith talking the MEts pitchers hitting. Read my post?
  11. this team could just as easily turn around and win 7 in a row.
  12. Your eyes lie. all the science and data supports this. This is true outside of baseball, hell, your own personal memories are mutable. So yeah, the 88 wRC+ speaks much clearer than "your eyes"
  13. That's a different question, my point was there was no situation I'd rather Panik than Frazier. Nimmo was one of the best players in baseball last year. If he's up to speed, you play him anywhere and everywhere.
  14. 1/2. 88% of average is a pretty good definition of subpar. as is the 1+ish fWAR he'd put up over a full season at this rate. Panik is at 0.1 for the Mets, and 87% of average, which is subpar but extremely small sample and if you take into account the full year you get all sorts of "bottom 5% of the league!" flags. 3. Errors are actually extremely subjective, as they're often the subjective whim of the official scorer. i.e. Frazier could range 400,000 feet to try to field a ball no one else gets to but get an error if it clunks off his glove. But if he's making bonus plays at 300,000 feet no one else is getting to, that's + defense. 4. batting average. meaningless. 5. He's better than no one. Any 'good' he's done with the Mets has mostly been luck, and non-predictive going forward. That he had a few bloops last week does not mean he'll get them tonight. If him and Frazier went up there without a bat, Frazier gets on base twice as often.
  15. Vic Sage wrote: =Ceetar post_id=19975 time=1566842591 user_id=102] There is no situation in the world I'd rather Panik than Frazier. Frazier has batted .188/.243/.344 with seven home runs over his last 206 plate appearances. That's not a small sample size. And its not inconsistent with the crappy play he provided last year. His D has become a bit erratic, as well. Time to move on.
  16. Verducci did not convince me that it's "solved", but I guess that was somewhat enlightening.
  17. There is no situation in the world I'd rather Panik than Frazier.
  18. also Joe Panik.
  19. was at this one with the family. First game for the 2.5 year old. We got almost three innings in the seats before the 'disgusting' smell of sausage, peppers and onions by our seat was too much for the 5 year old and we wandered off to the shop and the ..Foxwoods? club.
  20. Izzy still around then?
  21. yeah, I think about the Puma thing. I'm firmly on the solidarity side. Especially because it's not some exclusive access thing. Fans aren't losing out on a single thing. If one of the gaggle of reporters is making things difficult, absolutely say something. You're not a doormat. I feel similarly about the Vargas/Callaway thing. (though actual violence is too far, clearly) This reporter is clearly an asshole, unrepentant, and antagonistic. Why should Verlander put up with it? It's an ancillary part of his job to be communicative with the press, but not with any specific person.
  22. they did reach out and told them NOT to send that asshole, to send someone else.
  23. Verlander wrote: I declined to speak with the @freep rep last night because of his unethical behavior in the past. I reached out to the @freep multiple times before the game to notify them why and to give them an opportunity to have someone else there. Ironically they didn't answer.
  24. =Fman99 post_id=19455 time=1566404070 user_id=86] For what it's worth, when Seawolf and I got together for a Mets game in Pittsburgh, despite the fact that we are both Geneseo alums and Mets fans, we never once discussed setting up a drug smuggling ring.
  25. It's literally in the job interview "Write a quick hot take mocking something the Mets did recently. Don't worry about whether or not it's deserving of mockery"
