  1. I think Wheeler still goes. He's going to be a free agent anyway. There was a post somewhere about Wheeler mentioning how communicative Van Wagenen was with him, the situation, and all that. Seems unlikely they're talking extension _now_ but maybe there's seeds sown to bring him back anyway, or some clear stance on what his value is to them. *shrug* It doesn't seem unreasonable they could trade AND re-sign him. Regardless, they needed at least two pitchers next season and nabbing a pretty good one now allows you to be a little choosier later.
  2. Carlos Beltran joins Neil DeGrasse Tyson on an episode of Star Talk, coming soon.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Wheeler and Syndergaard are good... That's your point? Has anybody disputed this? yes, constantly.
  4. On the other hand, I just stumbled upon (Via one of the spammy, but worthless Mets blogs) some site that's made up their own player projection system and infused it into some weird trade valuation thing. It's almost complete nonsense/opinion, so maybe Bill James isn't completely worthless.
  5. Anyway, Bill James has long ceased to be an authority on baseball analysis. I don't know what goes into his rankings, but there are plenty of other ones out there. Regardless, my point stands. Wheeler and Syndergaard are good, and even if there as many as 40 pitchers better than them, that's not a large pool to pull from, or a cheap one, in order to replace the talent you're losing.

  7. oh, duh. More likely he'll start and about the second inning Twitter will be sure he's traded because of some jump the gun tweet by Rosenthal or some hack, and then it'll be the fifth and we'll be angry at the garbage return we're getting for him, and then in the 6th the other team will reject based on medicals, and we'll bitch about that, meanwhile he's at 85 pitches with no-hits and no one's noticed.
  8. he's cleared all the checks and inbetween start throwing and all that , so I think it'd be surprising if he didn't start now.
  9. Olney's a hack. I don't think Bill James online is the #1 source for rankings though, especially lately. Sure, you can make smart moves or sign good players on their way up that you see potential in, but those are still probably longer shots than just keeping Syndergaard and Wheeler. fWAR has Syndergaard 20th and Wheeler 23rd. xFIP has Wheeler 24th and Thor 30th. similar for SIERA. Sure, there are some guys that have done better in smaller samples, maybe that pushes them to 40ish. but still, There are a lot of pitchers. That basically puts them on the bubble for Ace level. It's clearly front line starter. You're just not replacing that easily, cheaply, or with high probability. They're 32 and 39th of 191 pitchers with at least 70 IP over the last two years. 17 and 19 if you raise the floor to 'qualified' meaning they mostly stayed on the mound and maintained that success. That's where the real crux is. Finding a guy that's been doing it reliability. You can find guys that had really great second halves, or really thrived in their first 120 IP in the majors or whatever. But Wheeler and Syndergaard have extended that for longer than many. The error bars are smaller. I mean, maybe the error bars aren't smaller than the combo of like Max Fried (not actually available) and the package you can get by trading Syndergaard, but it'd have to be a really special package. And then you want to lose two of these guys? That's really tough.
  10. It'd be almost impossible to find someone as good.
  11. keep and extend both you can't replace them.
  12. it's 89.2% in the zone. he's making contact at 82.1% over those thirty days. Robinson Cano is making contact at 84.5% (54.7% swing) league average is 76.3%
  13. I dunno I don't click into baseball card or music posts. Matt Harvey hasn't been a Met in a while, so didn't bother clicking into that either. your response here was typical and unrelated though. Even if my post was defensive of the thing, which it wasn't, I'd be surprised if the Wilpons are particularly involved in second-half Ad/sponsorship sales. At best they give a final thumbs up, but given how little the Mets vet advertisers, even that's fifty/fifty.
  14. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=16560 time=1563918738 user_id=68] =Ceetar post_id=16555 time=1563915567 user_id=102] we have replay for that anyway though. And robots, if we'd utilize them. Neil Best has some views of the obstruction from a fan view point of view. Of course, those views were pretty bad anyway because of the big orange pole and thick orange netting. you gotta lean a little.

  16. That they haven't put advertisements on the grass for tv yet (digitally) is merely just an oversight. But in the nearish future, when we perceive our world entirely through AR, you'll be able to pay for an ad-free Citi Field.
  17. I suspect a lot of the design complains are just because writing on foul poles is somewhat non-standard. but either way, not a company they should be supporting, not that they've ever vetted an advertiser before, but still.
  18. "sucking" Extremely jealous fellow rookie you mean.
  19. =G-Fafif post_id=15133 time=1562348859 user_id=55] Pete McCarthy, much-missed radio pregame host, said on the Metrospective podcast that he sat with T7L on Tuesday night and there was no “Brodie, Brodie” chant. At most, a couple of fans called out to him. It's almost as if what the Post reports needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
  20. to be fair, America doesn't exactly deserve to be celebrated right now anyway.
  21. luckily he has assistants and is entitled to not work 24/7.
  22. =Centerfield post_id=14993 time=1562178628 user_id=65] There is a huge difference between booing a starting pitcher, who is trying his hardest to play a difficult game at the highest level, and expressing your discontent at a snake oil salesman who lies through his teeth and provides cover for crooked ownership.
  23. Vic Sage wrote: There is zero value in trying to grill Van Wagenen in the stands during a baseball game besides feeding your own rage. why zero value? Sometimes rage needs to be fed. i did say besides right? but that's an unhealthy way to live. It's the same as showing up at the game just to boo your own starting pitcher. Sure, he's part of the entertainment package and not everyone consumes everything the same way, but damn, it's angry and aggressive, and ultimately you DO (though I'm not sure everyone does) want everything he goes going forward to be a rousing success.
  24. I mean, it's one thing to rant and rage online, quite another to encounter people and realize they are in fact, people. 99.9% of people, were they to encounter like, Tom Glavine or Oliver Perez in public, wouldn't scream at them. I mean come on, the GM of the team came down and sat with fans. We're all, presumably, on the same side here. We want to have a good time at the ballpark. There is zero value in trying to grill Van Wagenen in the stands during a baseball game besides feeding your own rage. Darren is a nice guy. He, and maybe The7Line as a whole, lean a little too bro-y for me at times, and I wished he hadn't given the Barstool trolls the time of day, but it's mostly a good group looking to have a good time in fandom. The % of assholes is probably less than if you took a random subset of 750 people in the stands. But I'm biased and count some of them as my friends, so *shrug*.
