dunno, not recently for sure. I don't think MLB should do it, but it's not really the end of the world. I saw a mercy rule in the WBC and it was a lot of fun actually, I didn't feel cheapened. There's an additional element of drama to it. You're going to the bottom of the 7th down 11, you know you gotta score two. There's some heightened drama there, some interest. Is the game about to end? Certainly more than a 12-1 game would generally ever give. You're basically trading the very very rare huge 8th/9th rally that happens almost never for regular late-inning interest in blowouts. Plus saving 2 innings of work, and time. The time thing is a good one I think. Most people don't actually have a problem with any given baseball game's length, but there are slogs within games, or within seasons, that can wear on you. Cut out two innings of blowout baseball from a few games? Sure, why not. And we've got data on how likely a 9th inning comeback is down 9-3. If the skys open up and you know that you're not getting back on the field for 2 hours, AND you're game is cross country tomorrow or something? Get the two managers together with the umpires and 'secretly' forfeit. Game over, no waiting, let's go home. Even from a fan experience, who's really missing milling around a rainy empty stadium for 2 hours to see 15 pitches and a few strikeouts?

I mean, you don't get a refund when the game ends after 7 due to rain. You're not paying for 9 innings you are paying for a competition. Entertainment. I think a mercy rule goes against the fundamentals of baseball though, the open-ended nature of it. But they've been whittling that away anyway. I don't think Manfred actually likes baseball.

Would be a bad time to come down from the highs they have to come down from eventually, but I don't think the Braves are _that_ much better than the Mets, and the Mets are confident and riding high right now. They pitch better too, so if they keep the Braves guys in check, good things can happen. Fangraphs projections think the Mets will both lose and win one more game than the Braves going forward, percentage points better.

usually they trip me up with a 7:35 start. 7:20 is just weird. I'm all for weird but starting a live event at a weird time isn't helpful for anyone.

The Comforto hit had a catch probability of 70% (accounting for starting position) and if you look at the route he breaks straight back and instantly has to adjust. seems like it might've sliced on him.

This is fine. I believe the cacophony of rumors ,but these aren't really 'sources'. The Mets secretly confirming that they're aware that Panik has been released, is from the area, and maybe could possibly in some scenario help them is not exactly breaking news. Martino tweeting "I'll keep an eye on this!" like there's anything to pay attention to inbetween "Mets aware this guy exists" and "Hey, we've grabbed him." It's a nonsense of noise. And Martino and Sherman and all the others will retweet it, and then the Metsmerized aggregators will pick it up and repost it. All for a guy who's bad and probably shouldn't get out of Syracuse.

He's better offensively _now_ than Luis Guillermo, but I'm not sure that'd be the case given equal opportunity. Panik is NOT good. and hack may have been the wrong word there. He's been unlucky in runners scoring, his LOB% is way below norms. But hecan't control his slider. It's all over the place. His BB% on his slider is up 500% over the last two years.
