  1. I am glad you posted this so I know now to watch it. 4pm your time is my sweetspot - dinner finished and tidy up done (with a bit of luck) and so perfect timing to relax of an evening
  2. I'm not sure I buy that 'quite common' for no one else to get it. I bet they just didn't get symptoms, or they were the source of the infection and didn't get it. That it continues to constantly spread anyway suggests the guidance of "oh, you interacted with the spouse of someone infected? meh, you don't need to worry about anything" was dumb. Here, If one person of a household tests positive everyone gets tested. There's lots of asymptotic positives - especially with children - that are found due to this. Anyway I'm not an expert in epidemiology or infectious diseases so I won't pretend to be!
  3. That's too many Nats. Unless they're seriously going to B-Squad it. It's absurd to play and they should absolutely be quarantining them and moving on. The only reason they're not is because MLB doesn't give 1 crap about the players or them having to sit around and wonder and get cold. If they can squeeze a game in without being blamed for exposing the players (note: I didn't say without exposing the players, just being blamed) they will but there doesn't seem to be any good way to to do that. And it's absurd that there's uncertainty, it's been over a year with this they should clearly be able to say "IF X, then we play, if Y, then we cancel this game and that game and this is what happens." This is where the B117 variant is making things totally different. The transmissibility is much higher so the risks of someone interacting with people as a close contact are higher. The way the people have explained it here is that where before if there was a positive test in a household it was quite common for nobody else in the household to get it whereas now they are routinely finding the whole household positive
  4. Name the first Mets of 2021 to: 1. Get a base hit: Francisco Lindor - I believe in Fairytales 2. Reach base safely by any means Nimmo 3. Hit a double. Lindor (same fairytale) 4. Hit a triple - McNeil 5. Hit a home run; Pete Alonso 6. Score a run Nimmo 7. Get credited with a RBI Lindor 8. Draw a walk: Nimmo 9. Hit a sacrifice fly: Dom Smith 10. Steal a base: Villar 11. Get thrown out at home Nimmo 13. Strike out as a hitter Alonso 14. Drive in more than 1 run in a single turn at bat Smith 15. Appear as a pinch hitter Almora 16. Get a "walk-off" RBI Smith 17. Get hit by a pitch Nimmo Pitching/Fielding 18. Pitcher to get credit for a win J de G 19. credit for a save: Diaz 20. Appearance as a relief pitcher: Loup de Loup 21. Take a loss Betances 22. Fielder to commit an error Jeff McNeil Extra Credit/Tiebreakers: 23. Predict the date of Rojas' first ejection July 27th 24. Score the first play of the *bottom* of the first inning, first game: F8 25. First Met to reach 2 home runs for the season: Pete Alonso

Edgy MD wrote: The answer to me will remain the weakening of the organization of the league as a cartel model, creating higher stakes for winning and losing, challenging players and teams to creatively and continually make winning moves on the field, instead of playing their parts in a pre-written drama, refining mechanics, and being a good citizen. 6. I really think it'd be an overpay and don't like his shtick much which makes it easy to be more relieved than say if they'd paid 150 million to Realmuto for 5 years which I'd have seen as an overpay but fuck it he makes them much better and it probably wont be a disaster for next 2-3 years anyway. Bauer could be a disaster in May let alone 2022.
  7. Hard to tell if he is is intense, angry, or both. I do think it's hard to express how discombobulating the whole "on the line" thing is if you're not used to it. Not sure if he's able to see them or not. I don't like the guns but I'm ok with the BLM. I definitely think there's a bit of a 'people don't give me respect' in his head - in fairness if you're a short pitcher you've been told you can't succeed since day 1 so it takes a lot to have got there.
  8. I hate the runner on 2nd and the 3 batter minimum. Also the 3 batter minimum made more sense when there was a DH as there was no PH'ing for the Pitcher .
  9. I hate the DH but I was looking forward to it this year. I really wanted it to solve the mets Smith-Alonso conundrum. Having said that I can cope 90 games of Dom in Left, 20-30 Games of Dom in First with Alonso resting, and 10 DH Games meaning you have 122 games of Alonso on first and 10 of Alonso on First/DH. They both get plenty of ABs and late innings defensive switcheroos can happen with either depending on batting orders etc.
  10. 100% standby my Mickey was the worst now. What a fucking asshole.
  11. I don't know I'm not convinced that Springer for 6*25 is a great plan - I'd prefer to have Conforto locked up for that money if there's a choice to be made. There's also the clusterfuck that is not knowing about the DH and how that might have impacted their thoughts. I'm up for getting a plan b (Bradely, Almora or Cain in a trade) if it makes sense - or else if there's another ball hawky type 4th OF that they can mix and match with Conforto/Smith/Nimmo/McNeil/Davis combos I'm down with that - it wouldn't be hard to get someone 66% of the innings in CF while still keeping everyone else fresh.
  12. well at least Steve Coen is decisive. The worst thing about the Beltran was the protracted nature of it, it made it clear that they were really only thinking about the public perception of things rather than the actuality of events. Can't say I have any sympathy - I've seen various "it was 5 years ago" stuff, but it wasn't like he was a clumsy overeager teenager.
  13. Dave Dombrowski's one of those guys who the SABR style community keep scratching their heads about but he keeps flying pennants and some flags for the teams he works with. Can't say that they are great in the aftermath but he does seem to be able to assemble the pieces.
  14. Also having watched the video it's the ump who says ass in the jackpot not Terry unless Terry said it somewhere else.
  15. I did that off the top of my head and what surprised me was how bad they all were. The thing that got me with Calloway was the whole circus he created midseason with Tim Healey and the Vargas follow-on that was a low of lows I put Rojas 4 only because it would seem wrong to rank him in the top half after 60 games when they were let's face it pretty terrible - but I was tempted because Willie was so bad.
  16. Mets managers whom I've experienced. Bobby V Art Howe Willie Randolph Jerry Manuel Terry Collins Mickey Calloway Luis Rojas ****** My 'gut' feeling rankings. 1. Bobby Valentine 2. Terry Collins 3. Willie Randolph 4. Luis Rojas 5. Art Howe 6. Jerry Manuel 7. Mickey Calloway.
  17. I also don't get why they went with Ramos rather then Nimmo in the bottom of the 8th. Not a great day for Luis Rojas.
  18. Christ that was horrendous. I too thought all the defensive moving around was possibly a bad idea - but really Diaz ...
  19. It's nearly 1 am here!
  20. Hmmmmm I'm thinking a 5 hitter . Robin Ventura

    Firsts

Butch Huskey & Rey Ordonez Mark McGwire - had just been traded to the Cards when I went to my first met game in 1997. He was batting .111 - we gave him a hard time.
  22. =seawolf17 post_id=32301 time=1582656924 user_id=91] =G-Fafif post_id=32300 time=1582654837 user_id=55] I'm throwing in with Ryan Cordell as a callup who starts for three or four consecutive games, gets a couple of big hits and looms as someone I will be dismayed more Mets fans don't remember five years later.
  23. I'm actually pretty happy with this. I really liked Beltran, he's a smart guy and I don't get worried about the 'not needing the money'.
  24. I'm just delighted that the Astros got through. My anyone but order goes Braves Yankees Phillies Nats after that I tend not to be bothered but Cardinals always irk me and I'm not mad on the Cubs. after that point it comes down to players/managers so for example, Not mad on Brewers because of Ryan Braun but like Lorenzo Cain.
