  1. I'm not there with the it's over yet but you have to think they need 4/5 of the hitters to go on a tear that wins them games in the first 3 innings because they sure as hell aren't gonna get the pitching they did back in April & May. I mean they've got 5 guys who can produce a month of 1,000 OPS - but they need ALL of them to do that in the next month or something batshit crazy like that.
  2. I voted 4. And I think we will be 6 games out after the stretch.
  3. I don't blame Dom - and think you could well be right but it does play in to the “they manage to find a way to fuck it up”
  4. And as we get momentum… it's third out on the base paths ….
  5. Bleh down 3-0 before an out …
  6. =Fman99 post_id=74010 time=1628610837 user_id=86] The Nats laid down real nice last week against ATL and PHL, part of the reason we're dropped to 3rd place. Hopefully that trend continues.
  7. I have no problem conceptualising that a billionaire hedge fund guy ain't a warm cuddly uncle like “Steve” seems to currently aiming to be portrayed as. There's also a decent number of things where you can point to the front office (which is a proxy for ownership) and go - Holy Fuck guys that's not a great judgement call. The lads on For All You Kids Out There did a fairly good if depressing job of going through all that stuff on their last two episodes (worth a listen if you haven't) I won't get too deep into all that but to buttress Ceetars claims that they don't know what they're doing is that unless we finish in the 10th slot or above in the draft we will lose the other first round pick after the Rocker comp pick if we sign someone who has a qualifying offer. So unless a higher end Free Agent was traded (Bryant was thankfully) we would be stupid to sign them

  9. wow - poor Johneshwy! That's some rough justice there. Starting centre-fielder to DFA by putting your body on the line. Jeez.
  10. and i won't begin to try and explain the Duckworth Lewis Method.
  11. =Gwreck post_id=70650 time=1625754817 user_id=56] I am unaware of any major professional sports league in which certain games are arbitrarily randomly scheduled for less than their regulation length.
  12. I think I prefer 7 inning games now though ... this may simply be related to the fact that when there's a double header that starts early i'm far more likely to see it (the average game starts at 00:10 so i often listen to the first half inning while going to sleep and that's it) but there's something about the preponderance for starting pitchers to do a bigger proportion of the overall game that I like.
  13. Sit down Rizzo, you unvaccinated twat! Can anyone tell me who is to blame for the mets not being @ 85% - Michael Conforto, JD Davis & James McCann all were quoted by Newsday at one time or other saying "personal decision" WTF is that all about.

  16. no but i have red studs underneath! and white football boots would have been unheard of pre '00
  17. as someone who wears white football boots with no laces. I can happily say you're not fun

  19. I was wondering why Diaz was warming up so early. totally forgot about this 7 inning thing.
  20. Of all the 'sports with replay' that I've seen I think Cricket has the best use of it - and it's the most similar to baseball in terms of flow. Basically the team on the field has 1 'review' that they can call for at any point in time. If it's successful they keep the review if it's unsuccessful they lose it and they have to appeal any decision within 15 seconds and the people on the field do it. It's got nothing to do with the what people see on a monitor. So in other words if you think something is really wrong you know straight away - that stops the howler - and then if there's a judgment call (and cricket has a very unique thing called LBW which has a lot of judgement) you have to really think "he's out" to use it. https://www.icc-cricket.com/video/312199https://www.icc-cricket.com/video/312199 it's a very quick way to stop this interminable 'standing at the top of the steps' thing that goes on. That's my biggest issue with it. Other thing is that when the '3rd umpire' is reviewing a decision you see the process he's going through in real time so you can see what he's looking at.
  21. J.D. Davis is playing 1B for Syracuse tonight, not 3B or LF, I guess so w/Pete out Villar can stay at 3B and Dom can stay in LF. J.D. has 2 errors already. https://www.milb.com/gameday/ironpigs-vs-mets/2021/05/22/646306#game_state=live,game_tab=,game=646306https://www.milb.com/gameday/ironpigs-vs-mets/2021/05/22/646306#game_state=live,game_tab=,game=646306 He also blasted a HR. Can someone help me understand why JD would play 1B when Dom is a "plus" fielder at 1B and JD is new to the position? JD is better at 3B than 1B, Dom is better at 1B than LF, and Villar seems to be the same at 2d or 3d so they are doing this because playing Dom at 1B and JD at 3d would mean that Moe, Larry and Johneshwy are the OF'ers (which is awful) and/or to keep Peraza/Tovar in the lineup at 2B. Is that it? Because Dom Smith is due to get hurt this week... In all seriousness. I don't get how we've managed a situation where when Pete Alonso is out and Dom isn't playing all the innings at first. The sequence where he was moved out of 1st because Tovar came in boggles the mind. Tovar and Gsellman in on Double Switch Tovar to 2nd Villar to 3rd Drury to 1st Dom to LF Maybin to RF Brandon Drury has STARTED 102 in the OF in the majors He has STARTED 15 at 1st in the majors Tovar has played 51 games at 3rd in the minors. So if you ARE resistant wouldn't you just put Tovar at 3rd and Drury in Right. .... I know it's hard to keep on top of the all the moving parts, but jeez.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Well, letting a popup fall in with two out in the ninth is not that ominous. honestly, that moment felt like some sort of weird throwback. fair play to Diaz for not letting it in his head.
  23. see - Nido could have done that ....
  24. that's true. the 3 man bench plus injured Nimmo wouldn't be my plan and I did point out the craziness of the makeup of the 40 man before. But 7 inning games are different. It isn't just the 'length' its the fact that the chances of getting into the weaker relievers is reduced and so on. I think you have to see bases loaded and nobody out, when you're down by two runs as an extremely high leverage moment.
  25. well Marcus didn't deserve that.
