  1. Ok, to give my brief story of this game. 5.50 pm, ask here is it likely to be on, ye say yes. MRS is in bed having nap, 3.5 year old daughter watching "Sofia the 1st" on TV 3 month old daughter snoozing. So, I'm tidying the kitchen and the like while watching the game. 6.45 visitors call to drop off a few bits, stop watching. 7.00 visitors gone, cooking dinner for the 3.5 year old (I say 3.5 she's almost 4 actually) 7.20 3.5 month old daughter eating dinner (penne with a ragu) I'm prepping bottle etc for 8pm feed 7.35 Far better half up, 7.50 start feed a few early, move to watching game on Apple TV 8.40 finished feed, bigger one is in bed. 9pm start prepping our own dinner, herself's working on computer so turn it off in main room and back on the iPad. 9.30 dinner ready to eat, turn off game. 10.30 finished dinner and come back in to tidy kitchen while herself gets back to work GAME STILL ON?????????? 11.25, started prepping next feed. SERIOUSLY. It'd be one thing if the game STARTED at a feed, like the 7pm ET ones do, but the game was 1.45 IN when I started the little lady's last feed. I'll be starting another one in about 35 mins!! What are the chances?
  2. is this looking like it's going to happen?
  3. How short is this game going to be... Won't be much over 2 hours unless it goes tomextras
  4. Can I ask a question, if Hefner continued in the rotation, would he be on pace for MOST HOMERS ALLOWED in a season?
  5. was Gary Thorne ever one of the mets voices?

His response to his troubles was (and this was a direct quote) "they'll (pitchers) start making some mistakes and I'll start hitting some homers" and that he just didn't seem to even notice how he was flailing so badly. is that what happened? I'm not sure I'm convinced that his overall approach isn't just a symptom and not a cause. Presumably he's taking different approaches in desperation too. I wonder if he's tried just standing up there a whole game and refusing to swing and see if he can steal some walks. But their point was, he (Ike Davis) expected Pitcher Mistakes = Homers for Ike and that he was fundamentally missing the point. His only expectation was to run into mistakes and deposit them over the wall. That isn't enough to be a valuable hitter.

  8. D'oh. He's already there.
  9. I should probably post this in the Terry Hot Seat thing, but I'm getting the feeling he's not far from being pushed overboard, he's reached the stage where he's getting overly defensive about EVERYTHING talking in exasperated tones and generally appearing like a bit of a dick. I'm thinking he's got till the subway series and if we're still hitting and pitching badly they'll whack him.
  10. Aaron Heillman
  11. AND he likes citifield http://rickankiel.mlblogs.com/2009/06/27/new-york-state-of-mind/
  12. most importantly, like Tom Seaver, he's got wine http://thewineandcheeseplace.blogspot.ie/2009/07/rick-ankiel-wine-is-here.html
  13. this without doubt the strangest pre-game IGT experience i've had in a while. FWIW. I don't mind giving him a whirl, I think he's probably better then Brown and is only costing the same money and it isn't like Byrd, Valdy and Lagares have done enough to nail down a roster spot, so why not go through a bit of a waiver wire shuffle.

On this week's Mets Insider (the one that focuses on the Las Vegas team) he said something about how he'd be a better manager than a lot of the 30 people who currently have a major league job. I don't know if that's true or not, but it may very well be. I really don't want Backman as a manager. Everything about him screams sociopath..... And embarrassment.
  15. josh edgin perhaps?
  16. quick question walk carlos go? i think i'd certainly pitch *very* carefully.
  17. by the way, i place a really big premium on dillon getting through 6+ and getting they're pitcher gone by 5 if the other half of the double header is going ahead.
  18. mike hampton?
  19. I know it wasn't as dramatic, but I really can't get Rod Barajas out of my head. Lets get through May and see where he is before we worry about it and lets see where the mets are in July before we worry about whether or not we could trade him.
  20. how soon do the call it?
  21. I did hear Buster Olney and Curt Schilling talk about it (think it was that combo, on Baseball Tonight Podcast anyway) and how Roy Halladay was going to have to adjust to not being able to beat hitters in the zone anymore and that's an adjustment one can make but that if, for 6 years or whatever, you've been able to beat them in the zone it takes a while to figure that you can't go in there anymore and get away with it. On the same podcast they were pointing out how the k's didn't necessarily mean anything more then that the braves hitters were trying to hit the yoke out of the park because it was feeling very hittable to them and braves hitters are going to strike out if they're going for it. On the other hand, I will not accept that he's anything other then a dominant beast until long after tonight.
  22. I'm cautiously pessimistic about tonight. I sorta feel like Halladay will pick us to get back to himself and that Harvey was spoilt by facing the meek Padres and while the Phillie lineup isn't murders row, it's a lot stronger then either of the two we've faced.
  23. I be thinking after that Familia's the man who's going elsewhere on Sunday. Greg Burke was pretty unlucky to give up his run and they'll give Hawkins more time before they decide he's done whereas Familia couldn't buy a strike. I'm not saying it's what they should do, but unless something strange happens it seems like most likely option.
