  1. 2 not 3. Thanks, Pete got hosed imho Pete and Boras greatly overestimated the market for Pete. The Mets weren't the only ones unwilling to offer Pete anywhere near the 5-7 years for $165-200 mil. that Boras initially floated out there. Pete took what is essentially a 1 year. deal at a high pay (bonus & salary), because it was the best offer he could get.
  2. Glad to have Pete back. The way the contract is structured it is basically $30 mil. for 2025, then Pete opts out and reenters the free agent market. The only way I see Pete not opting out is if his production continues to drop. This gives the Mets a year to find out if any of the youngsters are ready to step in (as Vientos did in 2024) and become a major contributor in 2026. If not, I believe Stearns /Cohen are more likely to give a long term deal to Vlad Jr., who is 4 years younger than Pete and hits for average as well a power.
  3. He made playing CF look effortless. He just seemed to glide to the ball. He was fun to watch. I liked him, but he has never hit enough to be to be an everyday starter. Glad he landed a deal.
  4. I went with Acuna. I think he can be this years (Inglesious). He showed he can defensively handle second (and can fill in at short) when Lindor needs a breather. I expect he can defensively handle third as well. Because of his versatility and speed, I think he is the most likely to make the opening day roster. I just feel like Baty has had ample opportunities, but hasn't been able to produce. I'm starting to lose faith in him as a future starter. I think Mauricio is the best option (longterm) for third, but his injury really set him back. He does have power and speed which can help. Williams likely needs more time to develop. He just turned 21 in November and lost much of last season to injuries. The Mets likely need to decide if he is to be a middle infielder or if he is going to become a centerfielder.
  5. The way Alonso's free agency is going, I doubt he is smiling much of late.
  6. I liked Cahna, but I think his best days are behind him. One thing he has going for him is that he has experience and can play a credible first base. He could possibly be part of a platoon w/ Winker/Baty at first. Overall, I think that the team needs to add an infielder, more than they need additional outfielders. Preferably, they resign Alonso. If not, then I would like to see them sign Bregman and move Vientos to first base. If neither of Alonso or Bregman are signed, then I think Iglesias is the next best option.
  7. I wouldn't give up the prospects or players it would likely take to get Dylan Cease for his walk year.
  8. I like this addition. I really like his combination of high 4 seamer and the splitter. I'm not as crazy about his slider. Overall, he should be a nice addition to the bullpen.
  9. Okay, the wife and I have settled on a week. We are looking to attend the Sunday, June 15th game (@1:40 PM) against the TB Rays. Hopefully, I can meet up with a few of my fellow CPF members and share a beer.
  10. If a player thinks they can do better by exercising their opt-out clause, that is their prerogative, but I see no reason why the team should pay them for exercising that right. If the team has a buyout and wishes to exercise it because they feel the player is not performing to the level commensurate with his compensation, then that is different in my view. I don't fault a player and their representative for asking for a player opt out with pay from the team, but I don't fault a team for refusing such a request.
  11. Nope. He essentially asked to be traded because he didn't like the Mets plans for the future. Let him be an expensive, back end of the rotation guy somewhere else.
  12. I would certainly expect so.
  13. Yup. I say offer him $78 mil. for 3 years* with opt out after both year 1 and 2. If that isn't good enough, then good luck in the future. *Of course, it's not my money so it's easy to up the reported offer.
  14. I like this pick up. He seemed to bring a fire to the team. Gives a lefty bat for bench/DH spot.
  15. He was a one of a kind original. I really enjoyed Uecker's color commentary and story telling during games. Funny guy. RIP, I hope you get upgraded to the front row.
  16. I appreciate the advice regarding tickets. I knew that the Phillies, Braves and Yankees would cost more than the Rockies, Pirates, or Reds. I understand that a weekday afternoon would be less expensive that Saturday or Sunday, but I am hoping to maximize the likelihood of being able to meet up with some of my CPF friends. I will likely look at seats in the infield promenade. Looking at games Sun. 6/1 vs. Rockies or 6/15 vs. Rays. Truthfully, whenever I attend a Mets game, the tickets are actually the cheap part of the weekend. It is 2-3 nights of hotels that really drive up the cost. We plan to take in a show, do some sightseeing, and hit a few breweries along the way.
  17. I'm planning a road trip to see the Mets @ CitiField this summer. Looking for an afternoon game on a weekend in hopes of maximizing the likelihood meeting up to share a beer with a few of my CPF friends. I need some seating advice. I sat in the Coca Cola Corner (then known as the Pepsi Porch) with KC and G-FAFIF last time. Where is a good section to see the game without needing to go back to work in order to pay for the tickets. Is promenade Infield (512/513) or Promenade Baseline (405) decent seats. Also, what is the difference between Gold and Silver within a section? I am assuming the gold are closer to the field, but I don't really know. I would appreciate any assistance and guidance any of you can provide. Now that I am retired, I can come any time, but I believe that a daytime weekend game would provide the greatest opportunity to meet with fellow CPf members.I am open to suggestions for possible dates as well as seating section suggestions.
  18. The bullpen definitely could use some proven arms. Particularly left handed ones.
  19. I am still hoping that the Mets and Alonso can come to terms on a 4-5 year deal. Having Bregman at third and moving Vientos to first is a good plan B. The line up would definitely miss Alonso's power, but the overall drop off in offensive production with Bregman not as significant and one might expect and the infield defense would definitely be improved. I hope to see Pete back manning first base this season, but if he goes elsewhere and the Mets get Bregman for third base, then I believe they will still be in good shape offensively.
  20. I think he would be a smart addition. He provides stellar defense and second, shortstop, and third. He hits reasonably well and he seems to have been a "good teammate". He would provide an insurance policy should (heaven forbid) Lindor have to miss significant time. Lastly, he should come reasonably cheap. It seems like a smart move. I think he is not considered a priority move at this point, hopefully the Mets will get around to signing for a 1 (or 2) year deal once they get the first base vacancy resolved.
  21. When it comes to Pete's free agency, Boras works for Pete. Boras will advise him and do all he can to get the best possible offer for Pete, but the ultimate decision of what is enough and where he wishes to sign is Pete's. Most players opt for the most money, but some do consider where they wish to live and play. The Mets need to be competitive with their offer, but they do not need to bid against themselves, or necessarily be the biggest offer when it comes to money and years. If Pete truly wishes to remain in New York, then they should be able to come to terms that should be satisfactory to both sides. It would be great to have him back next year to team up with Lindor, Vientos, Nimmo, and Soto, but not if he is expecting $30-35 mil. /yr. over 5-7 years. Pete is a valuable, but he is not nealy in the class (imho) of Lindor and Soto.
  22. #3 has to be Mike Marshall with the Dodgers. Walter Alston used him so often (and for extended innings) that he threw more innings in relief than many starters now throw in a season. Also won the Cy Young in his record setting season.
  23. #5 - Tom Seaver - Picking the low hanging fruit on this one. #4 - Ron Hunt - He might as well have worn a target on his back when he stepped in the batters box. #3 - The additional hint makes me think it is Rey Ordonez
  24. Duh! #1 is Dwight Gooden, of course. My original thought was that it sure looked like Gooden, but the "Good Luck" remark fooled me into thinking it was someone obscure. #2 is David Cone. Yankee perfect game gave it away.
