  1. Solid outing by Canning. Nice win by the Mets. It's good to be back home at Citi Field.
  2. My MLB.com feed went crazy after a few pitches, so I can't watch the game. I do like the score thus far.
  3. With Vlad Jr. off the board, Pete clearly moves to the head of next season's Free Agent class of 1st baseman next season. Boras has to be salivating after Vlad Jr's deal.
  4. Damn. Lindor & Soto reach to open the inning. Pete GIDP and weak chopper to second on first pitch end the promising inning. Senga finished after 5 innings.
  5. The Mets are playing like it's 1964. They have found numerous ways to lose thus far. No hitting, beyond Soto. The defense has been gifting base runners and runs to the opposition. They definitely need to wake up and get their heads out of their butts.
  6. Daniel Murphy hit over .300 2 or 3 times as a Met.

  8. You need an eye exam and new glasses?
  9. I can't imagine not offering a deal better than a minor league deal. I guess the Mets want to give the kids Acuna, Baty, Mauricio, and Williams a shot. signing Iglesias would likely block a path for one of the youngsters.
  10. When it comes to pitching, Stearns appears to prefer quantity of arms over quality of arms.
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: And Jose Quintana edges closer to his phone. Pretty much my first thought when I saw the report on MLB. I just can't fathom why the Mets wouldn't reach out to Quintana to get him signed and in camp.
  12. Much better pitcher than he got credit for. Best seasons by a Mets reliever by WAR, last 25 years: Ottavino appears twice (along with Diaz, Wagner, Familia, and Reed): Diaz, 2022: 3.2 Familia, 2015: 2.9 Loup, 2021: 2.8 Reed, 2017: 2.7 Looper, 2004: 2.4 Ottavino, 2022: 2.3 Hernandez, 2005: 2.2 Wagner, 2006: 2.2 Weathers, 2003: 2.2 Lugo, 2019: 2.1 Benitez, 2002: 2.0 Feliciano, 2006: 1.9 Familia, 2016: 1.8 Robertson 2023: 1.8 Rodriguez, 2010: 1.8 Reed, 2017: 1.7 Wagner, 2007: 1.7 Guthrie, 2002: 1.6 Diaz, 2020: 1.4 Stanton, 2004: 1.4 Blevins, 2017: 1.3 Ottavino, 2023: 1.3 Parnell, 2012, 1.3 Raley, 2023: 1.3 I think Ottavino falls into the "what have you done lately" category. He was quite good in 2022, good in 2023, and very inconsistent in 2024. I don't know, he seemed to have lost confidence (at least to me) so maybe a change of venue can do him some good. His k's/9 and K/BB were still quite good last year, but the ERA and reliability were lacking.

  15. Rey was a very good defensive shortstop. However, I always that he often made routine plays look harder than they were and made difficult chances look extraordinary. He definitely had flair. Unfortunately, his offense was so anemic that there is no way his defense could ever have made up for it.
  16. The Hot Corner wrote: Wow, Bregman didn't get the long-term deal he craved, but he got 3 years at an excessive rate and opt outs. The Detroit Free Press reported that the Tigers offered six years, $171.5 million with an opt-out clause after the 2026 season. And Bregman turned them down. Apparently he wanted the higher yearly (3/120 w/ opt outs) over the longer term (6/171.5 w/ opt outs). It generally comes down to the money. I still think the Red Sox overpaid, but I guess time will tell.
  17. Rated as #2 prospect (behind Brandon Sproat) in the Mets system. Hopefully, he can remain healthy and start to deliver on his promise.
  18. I don't think he has actually pitched professionally since being drafted last summer. Rated as the #15 prospect in Mets system.
  19. Wow, Bregman didn't get the long-term deal he craved, but he got 3 years at an excessive rate and opt outs. I know he brings defensive value vs. Pete and is a better base runner, but that is a big jump over what Pete got. I think the Red Sox overpaid, particularly when arguably their best player already plays 3rd base. Reports say the Red Sox plan to try Bregman at second base.
  20. Okay, I think I'm in the proper decade this time. One of my favorite Mets, Edgardo Alfonzo.
  21. He really cashed in on his success with the Nationals. When the Angels signed him to the megadeal he was expected to form a lethal heart of the line up with Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani and Rendon. Due to injuries to both Rendon and Trout, it never truly came to fruition. Now his contract (like that of Albert Pujols' before him) has become an albatross for the Angels organization.
  22. Glad to see him back with a chance to help the team. I have always liked him. Cheap deal, that may turn out to be a solid investment. If he just can't go again, then it isn't costing much.
  23. The Hot Corner wrote: Pete Alonso before he rocked MLB as a rookie. Pete's old, but not that old! Damn, senility. I was only off by 20 years. Pete was probably the biggest kid on his Little League team back then.
  24. Okay, I'll throw out my dark horse prediction. The Mets pen is once again deficient in left-handed options. There is A.J. Minter and hopefully, Danny Young. If something happens to them, then someone will need to step up and be the man. I present to you, Brandon Waddell who last pitched in the major in 2021. For his storied(?) career he has 12.2 IP to his credit while holding batters to a sub .300 avg. (.296) and 2.13 WHIP while surrendering more walks than strike outs. Should Minter falter (heaven forbid) and Young disappoint, then my man is ready to step into the void and be the lefty no one wants to see (especially Mets fans) coming out of the bullpen. If he ends up making the team (at any point) and pitches effective innings, then he is a true contender for the 2025 Dark Horse.
  25. Pete Alonso before he rocked MLB as a rookie.
