The hostile fans would have been equally hostile and the reasonable fans would still have been saying "show me the roster on opening day" - I SERIOUSLY doubt that Alderson feels any pressure to time transactions in such a way so as to appease fans unhappy with spending. Well, I do wonder if selling tickets is a part of it. If you go into Spring Training with holes and your sales team is trying to pitch season ticket packages, they're going to have a hard time.

  3. Let's not get too worked up over a "source," kids. I'm sure, if this *did* go down like this, the Wilpons had a perfectly logical reason. "See, we already *have* a uniform for Sewald, and we'd have to order *new* ones for Kipnis, so let's just keep our guy and save the uniform budget."

Does that also mean cutting Gonzalez and telling Dom Smith he's not making the team for two years? No, that means you just trade Dom Smith for Clayton Kershaw. Duh. Ah, the Dodgers aren't stupid. They'll at least want Hansel Robles thrown in to make that deal. Maybe Montero, too. Okay, FINE. (You know that *if* that deal happened, Montero would go 28-2 and win the Cy Young.)

  6. I invited Darren from The 7 Line here way before they really became a thing, back when he was just a guy selling shirts. I guess he joined but never committed.

  8. Wow. That's backup middle infielder money.
  9. Due to my job change, I've relocated the Devil Toads to Raleigh, NC.

The one that puzzled me the most was Ricky Gutierrez at second base in 2004. I have zero recollection of Gutierrez as a Met at all, never mind Opening Day.
  11. Do we ever play anyone other then Houston? Crikey.
  12. Stony Brook wins Costume Design AND the jet ski. SO THERE. [tweet:36oqjpsm] [/tweet:36oqjpsm]
  13. Hoping for the best and wishing for peace for his family.
  14. Much love to you and the family, MH.
  15. Condolences to Tommy's family. (My autographed card collection gets harder and harder to complete every year.)
  16. OMG I thought I was the only one. Sorry, bmfc.
  17. So it looks like the first week in April is my last week on LI -- so what say we all take in a game opening weekend? Cheap seats on Saturday 3/31 or Sunday 4/1, anybody? (Yes, I know it's Easter, but my family is 400 miles away, so I'm pretty wide open.)

  19. Wait, we're supposed to be surprised that a bunch of rich white guys are Trump fans? Come on.
  20. There's no way Montero gets through waivers. Someone will take a flier on him. I'm not saying that necessarily matters, but it's a factor.
  21. MFS62 wrote: His pitching coach last year? Dave Eiland. You know? I didn't even think of that. If there was something wrong with him, Eiland would know it. Maybe this is a better deal than we think.
  22. Proof that pitcher wins don't mean anything: Vargas led the AL with 18 last year.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Well, except for Harvey.
  24. I will always love that Buddy brought baseball to Long Island with the Ducks. They may not sell out every game like they did the first few years, but they've kept the prices way down at a time when everything else is really expensive.
