  1. Here we go!
  2. Gwreck brought this up below, and I was thinking about it the other day too. Does some sort of Betts/Syndergaard deal make sense? Obviously including other players. I don't know what it looks like, but I feel like it does make some sense.
  3. What a zany year. It was pretty much smg and marathon all the way, and there was this weird group of like six of us who kept bouncing around from third to ninth all season.
  4. I think he does too, whether that's the right call or not.
  5. 5-for-5, five home runs. Out with a bang!
  6. I picked the wild card, Espada. I know we're not the Astros, but if he buys into what they do and can bring some of that logic here, then I'm all in. I like Maddon, but I'll pass. I have fond memories of rooting for Scrappy White Guy Joe McEwing, and could be talked into rooting for him again. I have less than zero interest in Girardi.
  7. Minor wasn't even the guy yelling! It was the catcher.
  8. Sorry we posted at the same time - I had a million tabs open checking stats and whatnot.
  9. 1) Nope, and I think the faux outrage is stupid. 2) Because (a) why the hell not, it's just a game; and ( the Sox' actions the previous inning. If it didn't work? Reason to be angry, maybe. But this late in the season, in an "otherwise worthless" game? Sure, go for it. Minor still had to execute.
  10. I want extra innings all weekend, Mets. Dallas Keuchel, the guy we ostensibly could have added, who's 8-7, 3.59, vs Marcus Stroman, the guy we did add, who's got a 3.86 ERA in ten starts as a Met. Keuchel has faced us twice this year, pitched thirteen innings, and hasn't given up a run. Stroman faced the Braves last month in Atlanta, pitched okay, got the W in that 10-8 game Gagnon tried to throw away. Here's this morning Fun Stat, courtesy of me clicking around B-R: There are 76 pitchers that Rajai Davis has at least 13 plate appearances against in his career. He has at least one hit against all but one of them... Dallas Keuchel, with no hits (but two walks) in 22 PAs.
  11. Diaz's pitching coach in Seattle: Mel Stottlemyre Jr.
  12. =Centerfield post_id=23078 time=1569552309 user_id=65] I think the ball goes back to normal and he dominates next year.
  13. I am firmly on Team Edwin 2020. Get him across the tri-state area on a goodwill tour this winter. Bring some mentoring Puerto Rican players to help him out - Beltran, Delgado, Feliciano, whoever. (Fonzie's Venezuelan, but him too.) Get him signing autographs at every mall from Smithtown to Parsippany. Send him up to the Syracuse and Binghamton Winter Carnivals. Have him play an elf for Santa Nimmo. Film silly commercials hanging with Keith in the Hampies. Make us love this guy. Because you're not going to get anywhere near value.
  14. Look, I get it, Diaz has been rough. But getting rid of him will be an awful mistake.
  15. As always, Greg is going to be right.
  16. I want him to go 5-for-5 tonight with five home runs.
  17. Nolan Ryan threw only 500 innings as a Met, and we were the worst (and smallest) of his four MLB stops. And he pitched in one game in the '69 Series. Retiring his number would be insane. (Carter caught every inning in the 1986 postseason, and all but five innings in 1988.) The argument for Carter isn't terrible. Not exhaustive enough, and not strong enough, but not as terrible as some here make it.
  18. He did regress to the norm. It's just that his norm is better than the norm of any other pitcher in baseball.
  19. It's crazy how undervalued Beltran is by Mets fans. No way he should be an "oh yeah" guy. He's beloved at every other stop. You're right; it's so bizarre that I keep forgetting him. But realistically, he's behind Straw on pretty much every single all-time team record list, plus Straw has a ring.
  20. I keep forgetting Beltran. And I saw Fonzie in the list in the other thread and thought "shit, yeah, maybe." Problem is, you don't retire numbers for guys about whom you say "oh, yeah, that guy. I guess so."
  21. The defense is a fuckin' shitshow. As I scrolled down the Athletic article on the "best defensive player from each team" yesterday, I paused to think who they would probably pick for us... and couldn't think of a single position where I'd say we were good defensively. (They picked McNeil.)
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Math just got a lot simpler: Step 1 -- Sweep the remaining two with the Marlins Step 2 -- Sweep the Braves' collective asses over the weekend Step 3 -- Have the Brewers lose the next two in Cincinnati and then the three after that in Denver ... at which point we'll meet the Brews for a play-in game on Monday for the right to play the Nationals on Tuesday which would be for the right to meet the Dodgers in Round 1 starting on Thursday. See how easy that all is? Sounds completely reasonable to me. Let's do it.
  23. Wright and Straw for me. As I said in the other thread, I'm a huge Keith fan so I'd be down with that. No to Mays.
  24. I'm good with this; Koos was before my time, but I think it's a nice tribute that he and Seaver represent the early years of the franchise. Wright should be next, and I think that's a no-brainer. I see the arguments on Carter, but he's a no from me. I'm as big a Keith fan as anyone, but I think Straw has a more compelling argument and rarely gets mentioned. Straw > Keith > Carter > Doc (I also honestly think that Doc could get his shit together, he'd leapfrog Gary.)
