  1. I am stunned that he survived the night. Fuck off, Porter.
  2. I hate the DH with the passion of a thousand fires, but my team also has two first basemen and I want them both in the lineup. So there's that. I liked the "DH goes when your starter goes" idea at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I hate it. So if your starter gets shelled and you have to take him out in the second, tough shit? It's monkeying with the game for literally no reason. The DH is stupid, but it's a relatively harmless stupid compared to some of the rules they've created in the past year or so, all of which should be loaded into a spaceship and fired into the sun.
  3. Maybe he'll teach everyone that stupid balk hop-step trick.
  4. =MFS62 post_id=53517 time=1610058430 user_id=60] With both Giminez and Rosario going and McNeil playing second, who plays third? JD Davis is the initial reaction, but there's only so much ground Lindor can cover. And who is the backup shortstop?
  5. Maybe it's Rosario and NOT Gimenez?
  6. =MFS62 post_id=53259 time=1609880654 user_id=60] =G-Fafif post_id=53255 time=1609876698 user_id=55] Meinhold joined the organization last year as the minor league pitching coordinator ...
  7. I thought this was fantastic. A top-5 Pixar movie for me.
  8. I saw a post on a TTM auto group recently that said he offers signed greeting cards for any occasion for (IIRC) $10.
  9. Dude's 36 and has been mostly terrible the past two years. Thanks for the memories, but pass.
  10. Well, good thing I didn't buy that Mets Tropeano jersey. (Although I'd bet they bring him back as an NRI.)
  11. And as always, it is some serious bullshit when guys like Nick Swisher and Michael Cuddyer get on the ballot and Edgardo Alfonzo never did.
  12. Jeez. This ballot is lukewarm at best. Bonds, Helton, Manny, Wagner are my only votes. I could be talked into Andruw Jones, Jeff Kent, Gary Sheffield, and Sosa. Should Clemens and Schilling be there? Probably, but eff 'em. Definite no to Abreu, Buehrle, Burnett, Cuddyer, Haren, Hawkins, Hudson, Hunter, Pettitte, Aramis Ramirez, Rolen, Swisher, Victorino, Vizquel, and Zito.
  13. The Twins just severed ties with the Red Wings here in Rochester, one of the longest-running minor league franchises in the country. So fuck the Twins, basically. Big rumor here is that the Nats will come to town and an announcement should come by December 1, but it's all just rumors.
  14. Career .310 OBP. I mean, that's better than Rosario, so it's not nothing, but still... he's 2021's version of Omar Quintanilla.
  15. That is *really* weird, unless these ladies, um, perhaps, were "closer" to Mr. Johnson than these folks may think.
  16. You know, Mets, you had a chance to go get a centerfielder who can't hit AND add a third Seawolf to the roster. But whatever.
  17. Nick Tropeano joins Daniel Zamora. https://www.amazinavenue.com/2020/10/30/21542773/mets-cohen-nick-tropeano-jacob-barnes-waivers-new-yorkhttps://www.amazinavenue.com/2020/10/30/21542773/mets-cohen-nick-tropeano-jacob-barnes-waivers-new-york
  18. I gave up in the fourth inning last night when the Dodgers made their THIRD pitching change in a 1-0 game and it was already 9:30. Fuck Manfred and his stupid "speed up baseball" rules when teams pull this shit.
  19. =Fman99 post_id=48615 time=1602865609 user_id=86] He's an asshole. I would have trouble rooting for someone like that. I'd rather see Stroman come back, give you 80-90% potential of Bauer without all the tabloid garbage.
  20. And nothing against Dave Bancroft and/or Zack Wheat, but Seaver/Gibson/Brock/Whitey/Morgan is not just a HOF group, but an A-List Hall of Fame Group. Morgan was a fantastic player, but it needs to be said - a shit broadcaster.
  21. Most of them have been picked up either through the internet and/or the mail, so there is a decent amount of faith in humanity that they're all real. But I've never had reason to specifically doubt any of them, so it is what it is, I guess. My friend Richie is even closer to 1,111 than I am - he's put a decent amount of time and money into it that I just haven't yet. I've got a handful of holes that are going to be hard to fill because they're stars (Alonso, Conforto), dead (Larry Bearnarth, Danny Frisella, Rod Kanehl), really infrequent signers (Kelvin Chapman, Mike Marshall the pitcher), or some combination of all three (Gil Hodges, Richie Ashburn). But there are enough lower-hanging fruit that I should be able to get to 1,000 reasonably easily and then decide if I want to invest in going all the way.
  22. ...Mets autographed cards. Erasmo Ramirez in today's mail brought me to 940. The stats: 1962 Mets: 29/45 (Anderson, Bouchee, Cannizzaro, Cisco, Craig, Daviault, DeMerit, Drake, Foss, Ginsberg, Herrscher, Hickman, Hillman, Hook, Hunter, Jackson, Kranepool, Labine, Landrith, MacKenzie, Marshall, Bob (righty) Miller, Pignatano, B.G. Smith, Taylor, Thomas, Throneberry, Woodling, Zimmer) 1969 Mets: 31/35 (all but Frisella, Hudson, Koonce, and McAndrew) 1986 Mets: 35/36 (all but Randall K, who is notoriously grouchy about signing, apparently) Longest Alphabetical Run: 37 (Alex Torres to Jose Vizcaino, but adding Wacha will complete the run all the way to Gene Walter) Largest Alphabetical Gap: 3 (several places) Longest Chronological Debut Run: 52 - Alay Soler (5/24/06) to Tony Armas (7/3/08) Ernandezes: 7/9 (missing Chico F and Manny H) I's: 3/4 (missing Igarashi) Joneses: 6/8 (missing Sherman and lefty Bobby) Macs & Mcs: 17/20 (missing McAndrew, McDaniel, and McGowan) Bob Johnsons: 3/3 (counting Rob) Bob Millers: 1/2 (missing Bob L, the righty) Total Number of Missing Players: 171
  23. http://www.kcmets.com/CPF/ramets1.png> Now we *really* have to reprint those shirts.
  24. It's funny, because I only really "remember" Seaver in his twilight years -- appearing as a "super veteran" in the 1983 Topps series, winning 300 with the White Sox, not pitching in the 1986 Series -- and it wasn't until much later that I really came to appreciate what "The Franchise" was really all about. Ironically - I was looking through a box of cards for something else the other night, and came across a 1968 Topps Seaver that I didn't even know I had. In retrospect, that was a little creepy.
  25. The first player who I really remember being like WHOA was Darrell Porter. This guy had big dorky glasses like me, AND he was a baseball player, AND he was good!
