  1. http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/nick20.htmThe Dugout> weighs in again on the wifey issue.
  2. Realistically, you're not going to have seven all-stars on the DL; the league is too thin for that. You're bound to have one random fourth outfielder who's on the DL but isn't worth sticking around on your bench; you're going to drop him and pick up an active guy. I still say no DL.
  3. Bench of 6, no DL. I had ten guys on the DL at one point last season in my other league; but this league is waaaaaaaaaay too thin to allow it, IMHO.
  4. Bob Sheldon is a member of the Bill Denehy Club also: Garner -- 16 seasons, .260 (plus 11+ seasons as a manager) Hernandez -- 17 seasons, .296 Veryzer -- 12 seasons, .241 Sheldon -- 3 seasons, .256 (in 262 total AB), 0 HR, 17 RBI, 0 SB, 4 CS
  5. What kind of a name is Yassky? Weird. (I think this would make a fun game: someone throws out a name from their past, then Edgy scours the web and posts pictures and we have to vote if we think he's right. It's kinda like the old "To Tell The Truth," cpfized.)
  6. But '75 had two great rookie cards: I'd include Jim Rice and make it a trio, but he's a personal fave and not Met-related.
  7. AAAAAAA! Wagner hurt his shoulder! (Just kidding. Those are some bitchin' socks, by the way.)
  8. According to his agent, it's all but official. 588 career homers (fifth all time), 1575 RBI (32nd all time), one MVP, 2194 Ks (second all time), b-r.com similarity/HOF scores like these: Black Ink: Batting - 28 (62) (Average HOFer ~ 27) Gray Ink: Batting - 138 (110) (Average HOFer ~ 144) HOF Standards: Batting - 47.9 (86) (Average HOFer ~ 50) HOF Monitor: Batting - 191.0 (41) (Likely HOFer > 100) Similar Batters Ken Griffey (888) Mike Schmidt (868) * Harmon Killebrew (854) * Willie Stargell (844) * Eddie Mathews (839) * Willie McCovey (838) * Mickey Mantle (835) * Gary Sheffield (828) Fred McGriff (805) Reggie Jackson (803) * (* indicates Hall of Famer) The big question... does anyone care?
  9. My favorite baseball player of all time. Did everything really well, but was never outstanding. I never understood the hatred some had for him; sure, he didn't like New York, but he went out there and gave you .275-25-90 every season over a four-year span for some very good teams. You can't hate that guy. P.S. I'm working on my Kevin McReynolds baseball card collection; feel free to check my needs list (it's on my profile) and see if you have any laying around.
  10. The Dugout weighs in.
  11. ="Zvon"] LMAOOOOOOOOO STRATLOYA. AT"O"MHH. (Sorry to read about the loss of your ass. All that "off" must have hurt.)
  12. I do enjoy how Topps brings back the old designs. They did a few "archives" sets, where they reprinted older cards. Then there's the "Fan Favorites" sets, where they use old designs, with old photos, for new cards: The last few years, they've released "Heritage" sets, with '50s-era designs for current players: This is the '05 Bowman Heritage, which mirrors the '51 Bowman set.
  13. edit: double post
  14. Wouldn't it be cool to be Bill Denehy, or Bob Bonner (one of the "other guys" on Cal Ripken's rookie card), or Ken McMullen (Pete Rose), or John Hilton (between Ron Cey and Mike Schmidt)? Not only did you get to be a professional ballplayer, but you can brag that your rookie card sells for a couple hundred bucks.
  15. Two random thoughts while looking through a random lot of late 80s-early 90s Mets cards I picked up this weekend: ** On the back of Mackey Sasser's 1991 Score card, you'll find the following blurb: ]Along with the surge in Mackey's hitting was an all-around improvement in his play behind the plate. Strong-armed, with a quicker release than previously, he threw out eight of 17 would-be base stealers at one point. To cap his defensive resurgence, Mackey became the first Met catcher to throw out Vince Coleman in 58 tries. ** One of the forgotten guys in the Whitehurst/Tapani deal in 1987 was Jack Savage. He spent '88 as a swingman in Tidewater, going 5-8, 3.18 with 13 saves. But for some reason, he has a 1989 Donruss Mets baseball card. It's too bad he never made it to Shea, because he has a good shifty-eyed blue-hatted photo.
  16. This belongs in the Mike Piazza thread, but you're so right, Edge. When he was going well, he would just flick those wrists and WHAM the ball was gone to the deepest parts of the park. Gave me chills when he hit 'em like that.
  17. Who would you rather give a thousand dollars to? A non-profit organization, or George Steinbrenner? Hell, I started twitching when I bought $30 in Yankee Bucks for my MFY fan friend's 30th birthday.

  19. Definitely from the tooth fairy. Or drug sales.
  20. That's how the Mets are going to sneak him past the Rule V rule. "No! This guy's infielder Mitch Wylie! We don't know what happened to that pitcher guy!"

Am I the only person who actually likes Zambrano?
  22. Zvon wrote: ="Edgy DC"]]I have never seen anyone before or since track a ball with such total abandonment and hit a outfield wall so hard in my life. Well, there's Rodney McCray... Is that the centerfielder in the movie "The Natural"? No... McCray was the centerfielder who famously ran through the outfield wall in the mid-80s in the Mets system. Can't find the clip, but I'm sure you've seen it. It's part of Len Berman's "Spanning The World" montage.
  23. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I'm hoping that his presence will lure Barry Zito here as a free agent after the 2006 season. For similar reasons, I see Glavine as an Oriole in 2007. Because he's following Mazzone, or Anna Benson?
  24. LOVE the '06 mlb.com fantasy preview graphics. Old skool, baby.
  25. ="Bret Sabermetric"]One word: comebacker. Yikes! S'okay... Jon Matlack was ready for those.
