  1. this thread is deja vu, we had this whole conversation already
  2. Best team in the National League, bitches. (Except for that whole Arizona-has-a-better-record thing.)
  3. Dear Edgy, Stop trying to mess with our batting averages. Love, The Mets
  4. Jose Reyes, scoring -- standing up -- from first -- on a ground ball to second.
  5. Hey Val. Long time no post. Eight guys in one year? Zero chance. We're going to be lucky to see two. Baines isn't even getting close, and neither is Raines or McGwire. Blyleven and Rice are closest, I'd think.
  6. Vote NOW. Vote: http://www.mascothalloffame.com/virtual/ballot/ ESPN Page 2's Take: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=medgal/070810&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab3pos2
  7. Dmitri Young is not impressed with Mr. Bonds.
  8. I'd rather have a house than a plaque next to a baseball at the Hall of Fame too. I don't know what Russo expected the kid to do with it, but I'd be on the phone with Sotheby's STAT.
  9. Steve Chilcott. No, just kidding. Hubie Brooks? Mike Scott?
  10. I'm blaming all three of those runs on Kase's Thai joke.
  11. Hey, the library bought it, right? Still counts as a sale.
  12. I thought so, but I wasn't sure if I was just mixing the books.
  13. Just requested your book from the library. Looking forward to reading it. I've had a strange opinion of Rickey through the years; when I lived in Rochester, he was somewhere between savior and pariah there, because he helped create the Red Wings, but it was really the local folks (Morrie Silver, et al) who were beloved; and I've read Ralph's book too, so I've read his perspective. Didn't Frank Thomas have something negative about Rickey in his book too, or am I just thinking of Ralph's book? Either way, welcome.
  14. What on earth happened to Ambiorix Concepcion? He just kinda vanished, and now he's in high-A? I thought he was a future Timo at one point, but maybe that's just because he progressed that way in my computer baseball game. (He's now the starting CF and #2 hitter for the first-place Baltimore Orioles in that world, though.)
  15. See, Edgy? Exactly the same. Who cares where he lives? Wally, just shut up. And take Joe Morgan with you.
  16. And yet we're in first place and they're not, and even if we were, we're not competing against each other. So I don't see why I should care.
  17. Hey, Brian Shouse! I remember Shouse when was a Rochester Red Wing back in '97. Fireballing lefty "closer of the future" type guy who's had a modicum of success bouncing back and forth from AAA.
  18. Jorge Sosa, batsman.
  19. Fuckin' cheating hot dog.
  20. Bochy's the one. Nice. Come on, Jorge.
  21. Kevin Mench, one of the two biggest heads in baseball. Bonus points if you can name the other.
  22. By the way, Phillies, let's see you light up the Cubs bullpen a little bit today. I'd love a 13-12 finish.
  23. They used a lefty specialist for one batter down by eight runs in the second inning!?!?! Is Torre drunk?
  24. Let's see. He's played 23 seasons. Figure an average of about 110 games a season, because he's been a part-timer the second half of his career. That's about 2500 games. Figure 3+ ABs a game, so let's say that's 8000 ABs. I think Irish's guess is pretty close, but I'll go lower; say 1200 even. Of those, let's say 50% are retired. 600. How many HoFers? 9.
