  1. The Tickle Me Chris Berman doll would say two things, over and over: "Backbackback" and "Look At That!" We're looking, Chris. It's TV. It's what it's there for. I know there's a certain amount of monotony in the HR Derby, where you're really watching the same thing over and over and over for three hours. But "Look at that!" gets old quick.
  2. Well, you missed A-Rod's suit. Willie McCovey is a classy, classy guy. He was on crutches during the opening ceremonies... is he injured, or does he have an illness? Hey, so that's what JJ Putz looks like. Thanks for carrying my fantasy team this year, JJ.
  3. I almost wish they'd stop hitting home runs, if just so Berman will stop just randomly naming San Francisco landmarks. "That one's halfway to Alcatraz! That ball's going to Fisherman's Wharf!" I can't tell who's driving me more crazy. I'd rather listen to Steve Somers call this on radio. I do, however, like how excited Jose Reyes keeps getting. Alex Rios is winning this thing, by the way. I officially apologize for belittling him and Matt Holliday in my intro.
  4. I knew Dusty'd contribute to the broadcast. "I think his strategy is to hit the ball over the wall."
  5. Chris Berman: "Well, you can't say 'backbackback' for all of them." Ms. Wolf: "Coulda fooled me."
  6. Vlad Guerrero hits three weak balls, then David Ortiz comes in with a fancy wooden bat case, throws Vlad's old bat away and gives him a new bat from the case. Vlad is now crushing balls all over the park. Can I hire David Ortiz as a nanny? He'd be so much fun.
  7. A-Rod, too fucking cool to wear an all-star uniform like the rest of the All-Stars. I'd wish that one of the other players would smash a pie in his face during his little interview, but maybe the other players don't even like him that much. Douche.
  8. I'm not saying they have to be tiny Garry Maddoxes, but why can't the kids in the outfield ever make a catch? It happens every year. Are they just the unathletic children of the all-stars?
  9. Looks like I might have misjudged Matt Holliday.
  10. Your competitors: NL: Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols, and Matt Holliday AL: Vlad Guerrero, Justin Morneau, Magglio Ordonez, and Alex Rios Howard is your defending champ, Holliday and Rios are your token guys-who-hit-one-home-run-and-exit-after-the-first-round. Chris Berman is on hand to provide the horrifically annoying backbackbacks, Joe Morgan is there for the insightful commentary that anyone who's ever seen a baseball game could provide, and Dusty Baker is the third man, who will add the occasional "this guy's a very good hitter." Let's get started, folks!
  11. Glued to the HR Derby tonight - love it! The game, we'll watch, but we also have the first season of Rome on DVD from the library, so we might watch that instead.
  12. Ooh, freaky. We can finally all see that it's really an "I" and not an "L" at the beginning of your name.
  13. Great work! It does remind me of the old place. Very nice.
  14. Newhan does have that whole Fatheaded Trax thing that I enjoy so much, though.
  15. Ledee: First RBI since Little League.
  16. Finally! That Al Pedrique Metsography I've been waiting for! I knew if I called and e-mailed them enough...
  17. Keith mentioned during the broadcast that they signed his nephew as an undrafted FA. He mentioned it in the context of Pedro Martinez; apparently, Hernandez the Younger played in the simulated game that Pedro threw the other day, and said he had the filthiest stuff he'd ever seen. Of course, he's just a college kid, so you have to figure that he's never seen a pitcher as good as Pedro Martinez, but whatever.
  18. Hey! I'm not Bobby Bonilla any more! Whew.
  19. Probably because we don't have a left fielder in the lineup.
  20. I don't see how we're not 80-0 with this pen! Heath Bell - 48.1 IP, 0.87 WHIP, 51 K Tyler Yates - 35.1 IP, 1.08 WHIP, 35 K Matt Lindstrom - 32.1 IP, 1.33 WHIP, 29 K Royce Ring - 6.1 IP, 8 K Henry Owens - 23 IP, 1.96 ERA Danny Graves - 31.3 IP, 2.87 ERA, 17 SV That's a 2.55 ERA in 176 2/3 innings for those guys! Oh, wait. You say those guys aren't Mets any more? That was 2004-2005? And Graves is actually a Duck? Oh.
  21. Sometimes... SOMETIMES... I actually feel bad for A-Rod.
  22. Edgy, exactly how long have you been stalking Mike Hargrove? Isn't Ray Durham going to get jealous?
  23. Yes and yes.
  24. I look forward to cheering Griffey's 600th home run wearing my white "GRIFFEY 3" Mets t-shirt. Frank Thomas is a Hall of Famer, methinks.
