  1. Baseball for Brain Surgeons is one of my favorite baseball books of all time. I think he gets a lot of crap because he was a big target, but I loved listening to him on games when he was with us.

  3. Update through 3: Szapucki looks meh and is out after three, and the offense looks equally meh. 2-0 Baby MFYs.
  4. May 12.

DSL was likely wearing it in the minor league camp when he was told to hop on a bus to Palm Beach this morning. I assume that's the answer to the "we had to send a bunch of guys north for the MILB games to start but SOMEBODY has to play these games" scenario.

Edgy MD wrote: MRC is projecting: Khalil Lee, rf Travis Jankowski, cf Mark Vientos, lf Brett Baty, 3b Nick Plummer, dh Daniel Palka, 1b Travis Blankenhorn, 2b Patrick Mazeika, c Matt Reynolds, ss Mike Montgomery, sp Jankowski and Palka are both in today's game, so odds are they won't be in Syracuse tomorrow. (I still think Travis will make the OD roster, although I think Palka will be in Syracuse soon enough.)
  8. Edgy MD wrote: You don't know your roster until the big league team sets theirs, and with the big league team launching second, it creates a predicament. Exactly. That's so weird. But those guys have to be in Syracuse already. For example, the Rochester Red Wings showed video of their bus leaving this morning to head to Toledo for their opener tomorrow, but their "roster" on their site has 49 names on it. Like, do you not know who's on that bus? Can't somebody cross-check this stuff for the internet? LOL
  9. =G-Fafif post_id=88331 time=1649097828 user_id=55]The Edwin Jackson of his day as well in that he played everywhere, man, sense.
  10. Well, THAT'S a kick in the nuts.
  11. Really excited about tomorrow, but it's weird that they haven't announced any rosters yet.
  12. Neat! Welcome abordick.
  13. Internet seems to say that Shreve has "made the roster," but I'm not sure at whose expense.
  14. Felt more dominant than he actually was. But was a very solid, reliable arm for a season and a half here, and that's a lot more than a lot of guys can say.
  15. Eddie always felt like a "company man," which others here have alluded to. He knows his stuff, has a great radio voice, and is certainly an icon to Mets fans who listen to the radio. His job was never to ask the hard questions, and he did it well. Thanks for the memories, Eddie C.
  16. I mean, whatever, and I liked Castro, but when you look at his numbers, they weren't that good.
  17. I get the question. I really do. But I think it was done in good faith, for the reasons mentioned above. "Trolling" wasn't really a thing, at least certainly not in the modern sense, back in 1965. He got hurt, was forced into retirement, and it was a nice tribute a few weeks later to the guy who was really the face of the team for literally its entire existence to that point. I agree that there was likely no subtext.
  18. It is going to be AWESOME when we then activate them for game that day.
  19. Not for nothing, but they should have been doing this for years. And yeah, it would be good to get some actual narrative. "The catcher had possession of the ball, but did not touch the runner's trailing leg until after his arm had already touched the plate." Nice and easy.
  20. 24-4, 1.53 ERA, Cy Young.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: That expanded roster is going to create four-hour 2-0 games. Not necessarily. You still have the three-batter rule.
  22. I mean, I get it, but let's not compare a rookie 120 years ago to a guy with a pretty established track record pre-injury.
  23. My favorite thing about Heritage every year is how Topps echoes the old sets. Those Dom and Marte photos are right out of the 1973 set. (So's Pete, for what it's worth.)
  24. I love late innings of early spring games. Joe Zanghi! Hayden Senger! Love it.
