  1. If there are ABs for him in September, then yeah, he'll come up. If McCann/Nido/Mazeika are all still on the 40, though, I doubt it. That said, Mazeika's hold on a 40 spot is tenuous at best.
  2. I always think I saw him pitch at Citi Field, then I remember that I conflate him with Aaron Laffey and I don't remember which I saw.
  3. There were a handful of guys in the late 80s who were "prospects" to me that I would add to my Micro League Baseball team, they'd go gangbusters, and I'd be like THE METS SHOULD CALL THIS GUY UP HE'S AWESOME. I would go through the yearbook, or the minor league team sets, and find these guys who hit twenty homers in AA or stole 40 bases in AAA and just assume they'd do the same thing in the majors. Toca is one. So is Terrel Hansen. Another guy who I'd add who hasn't come up yet is Chris Donnels. We shared a name, which I thought was cool because the Mets didn't have any other Chrises at the time, and he seemed like a guy who could do what Gregg Jefferies couldn't. Also Julio Valera, who I think won 20 games multiple times for me in Micro League.
  4. Who the hell is John Curtiss? You made him up. Dom's only played three AAA games. I feel like that's not enough, but if Alonso is going to miss *serious* time and Dom's playing every day, yeah, no brainer. I think Plummer comes first and McNeil gets most of the OF time. Daniel Palka is an interesting possibility too, but he's kind of that "traditional quad-A bopping 1B/OF" type.
  5. Nido's been nice, but he's still a hole in the lineup like McCann was this year. Fact is, our catchers have totalled roughly a 0.0 bWAR this year, so any upgrade is probably a good one. (Plus, Dom Smith WOULD be an upgrade for them at first, for what that's worth.)
  6. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=95148 time=1654615078 user_id=68] =roger_that post_id=95147 time=1654614782 user_id=128] Currently, it doesn't matter if the fielder drops it. Batter is still out. My way the ball would be in play, but instead of the runner being out if the bag is stepped on, he would have to be tagged out.
  7. Right, but you can't do anything about the ground ball DPs because if the ball's on the ground, forced runners have to run. All our zaniness -- and the guts of the IFR -- stemmed from why runners need to tag up when the ball is in the air. Unless you're going to change that rule too, then you kinda have to keep the infield fly rule the way it is.
  8. Yes! This is wonderful! A new era of baseball dawns. Eliminating appeal plays will cut down on replay calls, too, which is another timesaver. Plus, how exciting when you've got a fast guy on first and a high fly ball deep in the gap! Dude's going to score easily. Can't wait. MORE OFFENSE!
  9. Edgy MD wrote: The elimination of the infield fly rule would not reduce offense significantly. It would reduce no-action baseball. If "reducing no-action baseball" is what you want, then why not just let the runners run as soon as the ball is hit?
  10. When you start doing things like eliminating the IFR, you might as well just blow the doors wide open. Why make runners tag up at all? The ball's hit, everybody runs until the play is over.
  11. I'm with batmags and CF on this. And there's no way it's an average of once a game. A few times a day, across all games? Maybe. Either way, it's a logical rule and I don't see any compelling reason to change it. *Could* it be changed? Sure. As others have said, nothing is immutable. But there's no compelling reason to do so.
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Conforto hasn't been eliminated from this category yet. He has, because he's not teammates with any Mets this season. (If he was on the roster or the DL, then I'd say yes.)
  13. I voted ten, because I'm weirdly confident like that.

  16. Figured it was long overdue to see what's happening with these guys. Travis Jankowski (Mets): DL'ed after becoming a viral sensation despite a .501 OPS. Sold some jerseys. Aaron Pinto (AAA, Cleveland): Looks like the next MLB Seawolf - 2-1, 3.15 in 20 innings, all out of the pen. Nick Tropeano (AAA, Texas): 3.48 ERA in 20 innings. Daniel Zamora (AAA, Dodgers): 3.97 ERA in 22 innings. Tanner Cooper (low-A, Reds): 3.77 ERA in 31 innings.
  17. Our league this is year is so weirdly unbalanced. If it was mathematically possible, you could have five teams lose 100 games (Cubs, Reds, Pirates, Nats, Marlins), and about as many win 100 (Mets, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, maybe the Cardinals or Giants?) - I know it'll never happen quite like that, but it means some good teams are going to get stuck with play-in games.
  18. Yeah, definitely the exception to the rule. And I'd even venture to say the only exception to the rule, because there's nobody in the Phillies, Marlins, or Nationals history who would be allowed. (And nobody else in Braves' history either.)
  19. If it were mathematically possible, we might wind up with three 100-loss NL Central teams.
  20. "Houstan"?!? Come on, editors. (That's a cool photo, though!)
  21. Yuck. Get 'em back, fellas.

  23. I want it to be "pook" so we can chant "pooooooooooooooooook" when he does something good.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Yadier Molina made his pitching debut in that game. How often do you see a blowout so severe that the winning team puts a position player on the mound? Like two weeks ago when the same team did it with Pujols?
