  2. Holy fucking Christmas. THE METS ARE NOT THE YANKEES. No more than the Angels are the Dodgers, or the Cubs are the White Sox. Different everything, top to bottom. Eff the Yankees; they win games? Good for them. They draft guys, sign whoever, trade your mama? Good for them. Pearlman's a hack who made his money bashing the Mets with his crappy book and figured he'd go to that well again. I'm embarassed for y'all who are facebook friends with him.
  3. I want Ollie to close.
  4. Way to leave out the "GO," everybody. What, we go on the road and we forgot how to do an IGT? /overturns pregame spread You gotta be kidding me with this shit.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: I mean, Met fans would be merciless if the team dropped 10 big ones on Ben Sheets this offseason. Well, sure, NOW they would, considering he got fat and hurt. Beane probably thought he could catch lightning in a bottle and then deal him midseason for prospects. You win some, you lose some.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I find it difficult to choose just based on reputations, but my preference would obviously be for a guy who'd be able to stand up for himself vs. the Wilpons if/when necessary, who understands what the team means to the fans, someone with more than a vague understanding of a science known as sabrmetrics but at the same time can be bold and decisive when his instinct for talent told him what to do. Someone who can craft and convey and devote himself to a mission, who chooses his people well and pays them well, including a guy whose only job it would be to put him out of business: make savvier trades, draft different people, allocate resources differently in an effort to learn how his adversaries might be thinking and learn. I want someone who can speak well on camera, offers a good quote without giving too much away, is a bastard to negotiate with with but ultimately fair and generous for those who earn it. A guy not afraid to admit a mistake, or even make one. A smart guy, a friendly guy. A guy who occasionally goes undercover at McFadden's just to have a beer and hear what the fans are saying and at the same time, doesn't suffer the media fools who presume to speak for them like Harper and Francessa. FINE, I'll do it.
  7. LOL Sorry 62 (and Mole). But seriously, that is part of the problem with baseball sometimes... that old-timey sentimentality that gets in the way of logic and progress.
  8. Someone send that column to Wally Matthews and/or Jon Heyman; I want to see them cry because they didn't write it first.
  9. I know it's a romantic, old-timey idea, but really, Tim? It's easier to cut them and tape them and lug them in a big huge book than to have them on your iPad? Holy moley, you're an old codger.
  10. Love the 9-3 putout. Love it. Well done, Angel.

  12. LaValliere. All three were known as "Spanky."
  13. He can pinch hit if he wants.
  14. Yes on the L/L thing, but at some point, if Davis is going to be a major league hitter, he needs to face lefties and get hits. You can't hide him forever. Let him go out there and strike out four times; maybe he learns something for the next time he faces Hamels. The rest of the lineup isn't surprising, though.
  15. Old skool, baby. http://www.ebbets.com/product/TidewaterTides1963T/TShirts A couple of neat shirts available there.

  17. Gwreck wrote: I see dumping Rodriguez as an achievable goal. Rodriguez actually has quite of bit of value as a player. The Mets could easily trade him, in one of the two following scenarios: A. The Mets eat a large part of the salary in order to get useful player(s) back; or B. Their trading partner picks up most of the salary and the Mets get a sack of baseballs (or equivalent) back. I think this is what's likely to happen. This. My gut was to say sometime this month, but I don't know how realistic that is. I figure he's cleared waivers already, though.

  20. Great game to attend. Hung out with my old friend and his far too many kids, got to play a little at Kiddie Field because we got there early, had a Shake Shack Burger AND a Shake-cago Dog (both just as advertised), got a nice win. Johan Santana in my two Citi Field games this year: 2-0, 0.00, 16 IP, 9 H, 15 K. Hey, Mets? You know where to find me if you want to send me tickets for the rest of his starts. When Santana came up in the seventh, I yelled "bunting is for losers!" at the top of my lungs and sure enough, Santana had that base hit. You're all welcome.
  21. Happy to report that Beltran single was inspired by "Vanis Takee" as his walkup music.
  22. In section 103 today, safe and dry underneath the Pepsi Porch hoodlums.
