  1. Well, shit. We shoulda called all these guys up in May.
  2. AND they come with a groundskeeper, too, which is nice.

  4. Argh. My least favorite thread of the year.
  5. Started working on Team Williams, but it's VERY outfield-heavy, and the pitching staff is dreadful.
  6. Sez the Twitterverse.
  7. I'm reading too much into this, but maybe Pseudo-Captain David needs to diversify his card game a little bit.
  8. Edgy DC wrote: Well, I'm rooting for 900 this season. Seven oldest guys in the Mets system who haven't appeared for them are Michael Barrett, Adam Pettyjohn, Val Pascucci, Alex Cintron, Jorge Padilla, J.R. House, and Michael O'Connor. Go, Mike! Screw it; call all seven of them up and give them an AB (or an IP) each.
  9. Clearly. I thought Steve Somers had stolen your password for a minute there. I am/was a big fan of Andujar; one of my favorite Cardinals of his era.
  10. Well, Joaquin Arias, anyway.
  11. G-Fafif wrote: "My understanding is he can play everywhere," Manuel said. "My understanding is he has played some games at first base this year. My understanding is that he has played second base. My understanding also is that he's played center field." Funny, because my fifteen-second-long check of B-R.com tells me hasn't played anywhere outside the infield since he started in professional ball in 2002, at age 17. You know what, Jerry? I played center field in Little League. Doesn't mean I'm qualified to play there now.
  12. G-Fafif wrote: I want Reyes and Bay to come back without incident. Will you cut it out with the practical shit? Geez.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: I want excellence. I want a new manager, or Jerry to somehow suddenly show his quality. I want that new manager to be Bobby, or somebody even wiser and with more leadership skillz. I want somebody who doesn't believe their own bullshit. That's a good sign of when a manager has turned a corner. I want Rodriguez's appeal denied. I want that contract voided. I want ownership and upper management to be communicative. It seems they (and Jerry) are laying low and waiting for the season to end, and I think the players deserve a little of the vision thing, so they don't have to waste their energy trying to muster it themselves. I want at least 11 no-hitters. I want all of this stuff too. I'd settle for eight no-hitters, though.

  16. Gwreck wrote: 1. How many Mets led their team in games played at a position in a particular season, having been acquired at the trading deadline or later? Keith Hernandez.
  17. I have a lot of high school visits scheduled for late September, but I can cancel them if the Mets need me.
  18. themetfairy wrote: I loved his attitude and the fact that he always had a smile. I always hoped his hitting would come around. Me too. I was very pro-Francoeur when he was acquired, and I'm disappointed that it didn't work out.
  19. As Casey once said, you gotta have a lot of Latino middle infielders, or else you're gonna have a lot of base hits up the middle. And stolen bases.
  20. I know it's a tall order, but if they sweep the Braves...
  21. And the Bosstones, in a slightly less positive tone, after 1:10 of "All Things Considered": The truth is what he used to and What he's had to do and What he's seen (and what he's done) All things considered, what he's telling us Isn't hurting anyone We knew it's true He's short a few Check out the deck, it's light Said he wrote the entire soundtrack to A Hard Day's Night On Peyton Place played second base He says but he regrets The stadium was Shea, the team, the New York Mets
  22. Wow. With ERAs that low, he and Santana must have like fifteen wins apiece by now.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Koufax threw his last pitch at age 30, Drysdale at 31, and Marichal, while he pitched longer, was effectively done as a top hurler by age 32. ALL JUST LIKE ROB DIBBLE! I get it now.
  24. Rob Dibble only had six productive seasons. I would have thought he was a ten- or twelve-year vet.
  25. You never like to see guys get hurt, but you know what? Screw him, and screw the Nationals. This helps the Mets. Maybe -- just maybe -- babying these young pitchers doesn't work.
