  1. Dude, they haven't even had time to take the bubble wrap off their new computers yet.
  2. Rivera: 1 year, $15 mil - he'll go year to year until retirement Pettitte: 1 year, $15 mil - so will Andy Jeter: 4 years, $85 mil - no way he takes a pay cut Crawford: 6 years, $110 mil Lee: 6 years, $110 mil Werth: 6 years, $100 mil And they'll trade Gardner for a setup man.
  3. Someone on ESPN remarked that it was too bad that Davis and Pagan didn't get more love. He posited that it was mostly because of the fact that they were Mets, which I take to mean either that other managers really don't like us, or this team was too forgettable overall. Either way... ugh.
  4. Never heard him, but considering the tributes, he was as beloved there as our guys are here. RIP Dave.
  5. Valadius wrote: As I said at the start of this little saga, there's no way John Franco didn't know what was going on. Because he's Italian, and therefore a mob guy.

  7. Considering there's a positional piece of the similarity formula, it's interesting that there are a lot of OFs up there. I guess David hits like a corner outfielder; lots of doubles, home runs, and Ks. metirish wrote: Fman99 wrote: Wow, did Eric Chavez fall off the side of the Earth or what? good call, the last decent year he had was 2006, injured a lot.....I mean this is a guy you would think steroids right? Plus the Oakland connection. Might as well assume yes.
  8. Holy hell, that's fuckin' insane. Admittedly, he only made six errors this year, but holy hell.
  9. Right, but if he comes here, then he'll be playing for Bobby Valentine again. That's a win-win, baby.
  10. "McRosco"? You're losing it. I'm going all Joe Girardi and interrupting this commercial to bring in the closer. You're done, kid. Takahashi Rodriguez Feliciano Mejia Parnell Apologies to Elmer Dessens, who apparently has pitched in about 100 games in the last two years even though I've never seen him actually pitch.
  11. Mays book was excellent; I liked the Radbourn one as well, but I'm spoiled by Radbourn's Twitter feed and wanted the book to be snarkier. That doesn't make any sense, but either way, it's a good read. The Aaron book is on my nightstand right now and is next up for me. Cardboard Gods was good but not great. Dick Perez book would be awesome if it wasn't $200. (Not a typo.)

I don't know that I'd see Keith making the jump, but if anyone deserves a shot at the national spotlight, it's Gary. And he and Ron already make a nice package.

  17. (m) none of the above edit: Scratch that. I guess I'd put Miller in.
  18. 1. Someone not named "Bobby" or "Valentine," sadly. 2. Everybody but Warthen and Niemann. 3. Come on down, Luis Castillo! 4. Center. 5. Extended, hopefully. 6. Yes. 7. He'll be in Flushing when the season starts. 8. Closing games. 9. Of those five? Most likely Mejia. 10. Angel Pagan.

Don't forget Lee May, the dad of Lee May Jr. (d'oh) - a #1 draft pick of the Mets. Lee Sr. was such a good hitter they moved Tony Perez to third to make room for him at first base. When that didn't work out, IIRC they tried it the other way around for a while. Later That made me laugh. The company that owned the seats behind us when we had Ducks tickets had the most incredible collection of morons working for them. One night, while Pete Rose Jr. was at the plate, the guy behind us turned to his wife and said "You know, Pete Rose Junior is Pete Rose's son." No shit, moron.

The "I am your father" moment in "Empire" is one of my favorite moments as a parent. MiniWolf was horrified for days. I really should check this forum more often.
