  2. Good. One less team we'll have to worry about for 2011.
  3. No, I'd think that they'd make the trade, but don't sign the extension until then. He's still under contract for 2011.
  4. Wow, they better hope they start selling tickets. It does balance out the division a bit, though.
  5. The "hat" picture on her brother's site is lovely.

Our (now departed) guy is William Christopher Carter whereas the Oakland guy is Vernon Christopher Carter. Neither should be confused with former Toronto All-Star Joseph Christopher Carter who shouldn't be mixed up with Virgin Island Met Joseph Christopher. /head explodes
  8. A very good baseball player, a legendary Cub... and one of the many players who are just good enough not to be a Hall of Famer.
  9. I'm really surprised at Carter; thought he was a no-brainer. In a worst case, he might have had some value as a trading chip.
  10. A guy I always hoped would be a Met.
  11. Ryan Rowland-Smith, non-tendered by Seattle. Was dreadful as a starter in 2010, but is only 27 and a lefty. Only made $440,000 last year, so I'd think he'd come reasonably cheaply. I'd throw him some ST innings.

  14. Seriously, what is this "we" shit? Every sentence starts with "we." "We" fired you a thousand years ago, dude. Go to hell. I checked another team preview -- the Marlins -- and he "we's" every team. Makes you sound like an idiot, Steve.
  15. Jumpin' Jim Bronzell and B. Brian Blair! Good times in the old WWF days.
  16. G-Fafif wrote: Phil Niekro won his 300th passing through as an MFY. I don't remember a lot of indignation over that. Because doing that made Phil Niekro is a True Yankee.
  17. Walker's painted with the Colorado brush, apparently. Todd Helton's going to run into that too someday. I have a hard time with big slugging first basemen and the Hall. The "fear" factor is important to me; I don't know that I was ever afraid of Rafael Palmeiro in a big spot, or even Bagwell for that matter. Walker? Yes. There is ZERO chance Palmeiro ever gets within sniffing distance of 75% of the voting population.
  18. By the way, when the hell was Aaron Sele a Met? I think you made that up.
  19. Gary Sheffield was a Dodger? He'll always be a Brewer to me.
  20. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I think every team has a roster spot dedicated to a relatively ineffective/out of sorts/project pitcher who pitches mopup in situations of little consequence. There's certainly room on the roster for such a guy. . I disagree with this. Or put it this way: if there is a spot on a team's roster for that guy, then the roster's flawed. Teams can't afford that spot anymore ... not in today's "pitch-count" game where it's not unusual for even the winning team to use four pitchers to preserve the win. I agree. If your GM is putting a player on your roster, and your manager is openly saying "I am not using this guy," then every game you lose, you're wasting that spot. That was the most frustrating thing for me with the Ollie/Warthen/Omar/Jerry demographic. If the guy's on your roster, you need to find a way for him (and your team) to be successful. If not, then something needs to give. Either the GM needs to get rid of the player, or if he feels that the player can still contribute, the manager/pitching coach.
  21. I got the first one right. Collazo left, Urdaneta right.
  22. The only way it affects attendance is if he throws a no-hitter in one of those first two starts. If he pitches well enough in the spring to earn a spot, then I'll support him. If he pitches well enough in the spring to earn a spot and then has two solid starts on the road, then I'll support him. If he pitches well enough in the spring to earn a spot, then gets lit up in his first two starts, then I'll get my pitchfork and flaming torch ready for his homecoming.
  23. The other Chris Young is an outfielder for the Diamondbacks.
  24. Thing is, we know Ollie's theoretically capable of that, which is why I've been hesitant to just toss him overboard this whole time.
  25. Eric Hillman was 6'10" or 6'11". I'll repeat what I said in the other thread. One year, between Maine's $2.5 million and Vazquez's $7 million would be perfect.
