  1. Tall, smart, strikes guys out. I like it. If we can get him for somewhere between Maine's $2.5 and Vazquez's $7, that's a good deal.
  2. I thought we already did this, no? Anyway, here are my ten. (I always vote for ten.) Roberto Alomar Bert Blyleven Barry Larkin Edgar Martinez Jack Morris Dale Murphy Dave Parker Tim Raines Alan Trammell Larry Walker Bagwell was my last cut.

  4. No. I want to say "but he's still young," but he'll be 30 in May. Sorry, John. I really wish it could have been better.

Even if you want to trade him to improve your minor league depth and plan for '12, you're not going to get full value for Jose coming off another season with injuries. Same with Beltran. Keep them, hope they stay healthy, and if they are and you're not in contention and you don't want to resign them, then move them before the trade deadline. NO NO NO NO NO NO. If Reyes is healthy and good, then he IS your plan for 2012. Resign him NOW.

LOL that would be epic. Could you imagine what Boras would be asking for Jeter?
  9. Reyes for... Lincecum, Cain, and Buster Posey. There is NO trade that anyone would actually, realistically make that would make sense to deal Reyes.
  10. bmfc1 wrote: Chris Mullin. At least he was when growing up in Brooklyn, as per an interview today on ESPN 1050. (The question was "which team did you root for when growing up?" There was no follow-up by Jody McDonald or Brandon Tierney to ask if he still roots for the Mets.) Well, obviously he roots for the Yankees now. Why even ask the question?
  11. I'm saying a Ben Sheets-style one-year deal could really pan out on Vazquez. If an NL team somehow buys him low, they're going to get great value.
  12. I'd love a "team history" set, featuring each player in team history in the card style of their debut year. Topps tried "Topps Total" a few years back to handle those folks who wanted every middle reliever, but it was so bloated that nobody bought it. Pedro Feliciano's first Topps card appeared in the 2010 Update set, although Upper Deck had him in 2008.
  13. I thought they could have cut it ten minutes sooner, actually, but I guess they needed to introduce what the Deathly Hallows are.
  14. Valadius wrote: Vazquez is probably the most unreliable pitcher I've ever seen, in a different way than Ollie Perez. Vazquez always seems to have wild swings back and forth from being a very good pitcher one year to being very bad the next. Where? At what point in his career, until last year, was he "very bad"?
  15. How about an owner and manager who would love to stick it to the Yanks and are trying to revive a flagging franchise: Derek Jeter, shortstop for your Baltimore Orioles. Considering they got oogatz out of their SS position last year, aren't winning anything anyway, and could promote a Ripken-Jeter "legendary shortstop" connection if they wanted to, that'd be a good fit, actually.
  16. He's one year removed from finishing fourth in the Cy Young race for a key division rival, with a 1.026 WHIP and a 2.87 ERA. Take his two Yankee years out of the equation, and he's been very, very good.
  17. Okay, someone needs to call Joe in for a little whack upside the head.
  18. Valadius wrote: I think he's Javier Vazquez waiting to happen. BBR says his most similar pitcher to date is Allen Watson, which is hardly a ringing endorsement, but you have to take Colorado out of the picture. I wouldn't pay him big bucks, and especially not if it involves sacrificing draft picks, but you're referring to Vazquez as a failure, which he most certainly isn't. I'd definitely look at Javy. Two years, $16 million? One year, $9 million? He'd be a great fit.
  19. Valadius wrote: I would actually love to see His Intangibleness go to the Dodgers to play for the Yankee Outcast. That would be interesting. Mattingly and Jeter in Dodger uniforms. Sports Guy in yesterday's chat: If the Red Sox offered Jeter 4 years for $75 million to play 3B, and it was like a fantasy auction in which the Yankees laughed and said, "Fine, you can have him," I would talk myself into it in 48 hours. "He just had an off-year, it happens, now he's going to change his training regimen, you can't count Jeter out, he's going to be a 9.8 on the Vengeance Scale" and so on. I'm that big of a homer. Don't bet against me.

Vladius has appointed himself King of the Agate Type this winter. Well, technically his dad appointed him to the post.
  21. Forgot about that one. I just remember I sent him a custom card using a photo I found of him with his "69 METS" license plate for my autographs collection.
  22. Bob Heise is one. Hahn has a couple of Mets cards.
  23. G-Fafif wrote: His signature moment was taking the ball from John Maine after five pitches and giving Jerry "Remember Him?" Manuel five-plus innings. This. I was en route to NYC to see Butch Walker at Webster Hall that night; listened on the radio on the way in.
