  1. "Topps" usually finds it for me. But whatevs. You can never have too many baseball card threads, I say.

  7. There are six players who have played ONLY for the Mets and Cubs and no other teams, unlike Messrs. Magadan and Hojo. NAME THEM. 1) Cubs 1960-61, Mets 1962 2) Cubs 1966, Mets 1967-68 3) Mets 1980-86, Cubs 1986-87 4) Cubs 1991, Mets 1993 5) Mets 1996-97, Cubs 1998 6) Mets 1993-95, Cubs 1996

  9. Lineup: Murphy 2B Harvey RF Wright 3B Duda LF Harvey CF Harvey 1B Harvey SS Recker C Harvey P
  10. There's always someone in these threads, usually from the mid-90s, who I'm surprised by too. Don't remember Magadan as a Cub either. Or Randy Myers, for that matter.
  11. QUICK trade him for Shelby Miller before the game ends. And maybe they'll take Ike too if we just sneak everyone out onto the bus quickly after the game and not tell him.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Ankiel makes what looks to be the 19th bad base-running decision of the series Yeah, I know you press when you're losing, but what's up with the Head-in-Ass disease? And how did Ankiel catch it so quickly?

  14. I read an actual post from an actual person the other day non-ironically suggesting that Jeter start for the AL -- despite not playing a game all season -- for the same reasons. IT'S NOT YOUR FUCKING STADIUM ASSWADS.
  15. DAMMIT I WISH THIS TEAM WOULD WIN A FUCKING GAME ONCE IN A WHILE SO WE WOULDN'T BE TALKING ABOUT THIS SHIT. This was sorta the Collins we expected, though, no? A little angry, a little crazy?
  16. I thought "come on, McEwing wasn't that useless offensively" until I looked at his stats. He OPS+ed 107 in 2001, but otherwise? 55 in 2000, 44 in 2002, 61 in 2003, 60 in 2004. Holy hell. Cora and Miguel Cairo were the first two guys I thought of. But you know, I'd bet a lot of teams have that guy on the roster every year.
  17. Usable, yes, but not a cornerstone. The Orioles, for example, are playing someone named Ryan Flaherty at second base. They've got a kid (Schoop) in the minors they like as a long-term replacement, but could you get an outfielder out of their system (LJ Hoes?) for Murphy? I'd think so.
  18. Gregg Muthafuckin Jefferies.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Because I don't think it's a closed issue at all whether Tejada's better hitter or has more upside. It is clear that Valdespin has the defensive tools to play the infield but has been an error-prone disaster. Valdespin -- walks aside -- brings more to the table offensively than Tejada does, and has at every level. I'm not saying Tejada can't get better, because he's still a bit younger, but right now, I'd much rather have JV1 offensively.
  20. I'm in no rush to give up on Tejada yet. He's only 23. I would love to see if we could get a usable part for Murphy, though.
  21. From the rule book: Rule 2.00 Definition of Terms: A BASE COACH is a team member in uniform who is stationed in the coachs box at first or third base to direct the batter and the runners. A COACH is a team member in uniform appointed by the manager to perform such duties as the manager may designate, such as but not limited to acting as base coach. Rule 3.17: Players and substitutes of both teams shall confine themselves to their teams benches unless actually participating in the play or preparing to enter the game, or coaching at first or third base. So I'm assuming they could. I wonder how often (if) this has ever happened.
  22. Could a player coach first base? Is there a rule on that? I suppose there must be.
  23. Wandy was the true star of that SNL-style Pirates lineup video.
  24. From 1991! http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19910722/SPORTS/307229900 No one can ever accuse umpire Angel Hernandez of making a dubious call to hasten the conclusion of a baseball game. In fact, Hernandez did just the opposite on Sunday afternoon at Pilot Field. He made a highly controversial, highly suspect call that provided the Buffalo Bisons with new life in an eventual 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Iowa Cubs. Hernandez is reputed around the league to be an umpire who yearns for the spotlight. He attracted notice in Saturday's series opener by calling a phantom balk on 13-year big-league veteran Rick Sutcliffe. Hernandez attracted more attention Sunday with a call at home plate that replays proved blatantly incorrect.
