I was at the SMets game today in Rochester and they pulled Tobias Myers after three innings. I said "I bet he's on his way to New York" and checked my phone to find the Peralta news. Christopher Morel homered three times- all no-doubters - in a 9-7 win. He's not the answer, but goodness, when he makes contact, the ball goes far.

Here's the other big one from overnight: Luis Castillo from the Mariners to the White Sox for three players. Castillo is older 33 and has $24M guaranteed for 2027 and a vesting option for 2028 with 180 innings and good health. This season, much like Peralta's, has been his worst year, with an ERA over 5. The return was Nolan Jones, who's 27 and hasn't lived up to the promise of his 2024 rookie season in Colorado but is probably a fourth outfielder type, Boston Smith, a catching prospect with a .450 OBP in his first pro season, and 31yo Seranthony Dominguez, who offsets some of the salary and is a serviceable bullpen piece. This feels like the kind of package Peralta will bring.

This is going to be one of those fucking stupid circular arguments that chased all of us away the first time. Not every post is an attack that needs to be parsed to death. smg suggested four posts before mine that people "stop blaming the Dodgers for trying to win." I think there are some in the baseballverse who think the Dodgers bulking up they way the are ruins baseball, the same way some felt about the MFYs twenty years ago. That doesn't mean anyone here specifically does or doesn't. He's just acknowledging the existence of that point of contention, and I was simply following off that point.

I don't "blame" the Dodgers at all. They're doing *exactly* what I wish Cohen and Stearns would do: spend money and resources on top-tier players. But they don't. They try to catch lightning in a bottle out of retreads and maybes. I don't know how you spend eleventy billion dollars on Soto and Lindor, both likely easy HOFers, and then surround them with question marks. I'll never get it.

I think it's kind of the corollary to the "former player vs stathead" question. We know we've seen game decisions "made by front office" types across all levels - notably, pitcher usage and pitch counts. Yes, managers are thinking about long term issues, but not like the front office would. The manager's job should be to win that day's game. But if the front office is saying "our starters don't go through the lineup a third time" or "this guy stops at 80 pitches even if he's throwing a no-hitter," those are management decisions. Dollars to donuts Stearns is in Andy Green's ear reminding him to get Robert ABs so he's more tradeable, too.

I don't know - I think Robert could be an interesting piece. Part of the problem is that he and Taylor are almost the same player, so the market could be muted.

I mean, he *is* objectively better than Eric Wagaman. So it's theoretically a net positive, at least.
