  1. And Alvarez is back! Surprise. RF Benge SS Bichette LF Soto 1B Young CF Ewing 2B Semien 3B Baty DH Melendez C Alvarez SP Peralta
  2. Wild one in Oakland wait Sacramento DAMMIT Vegas last night as the Brewers top the A's 15-14 in twelve innings. Ace Kyle Harrison gave up eight runs in less than three innings, but the Brewers clawed all the way back, scoring two in the top of the ninth to send it to extras. The Brewers scored four in the top of the 10th, which the A's answered with four of their own in the bottom half. Scoreless 11th, then our ol' buddy Jeff McNeil threw it past the catcher, allowing the Brewers to score what would be the game winning run. Love win probability charts that look like this!
  3. I just realized that MM is actually MGIM. Carry on. :)
  4. MFYs announce that Aaron Judge will miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured rib. (Ouch.)
  5. Which is impressive for a guy who retired in like 1998.
  6. So you're saying there's a chance!
  7. I kinda love the idea of a surprise pitcher. WHO WILL IT BE?!? No one knows. (ESPN has Brazoban in the slot with 40 minutes to first pitch, so that seems likely.) The "opener" idea is as stupid as the Manfred Man, by the way.
  8. 1. Why is there no general SUNY hat day? Someone in Albany needs a poke. 2. I would have done many things, several of them illegal, for that Stony Brook hat back in the day. 3. I think I may actually need the Syracuse one, though, considering how much of our future earnings we'll be spending to pay back our kid's loans.
  9. If we just replace the batters with robots, then we won't have to worry about any of this! The robot will be able to calculate exactly the angle at which the other robot stops their bat! Everybody wins. Except humanity. (And the Mets, whose robots would all still be shit.)
  10. There was definitely some "everyone's playing out of position and that's part of why they suck" at the beginning of this year.
  11. They're from Baseball Savant, which is oddly fascinating. And yes, percentiles. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/juan-soto-665742?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  12. Seattle! Fun. Last time we won a game here, Jose Reyes started at short and Jerry Blevins was the winning pitcher. It's... been a while. This is the first-place team in the AL West. Let's wreck 'em. Tonight 9:40 ET - Austin Warren, Apparently? vs Emerson "John" Hancock Hancock has been their most consistent arm all year, pitching to a 2.78 ERA that's 13th in MLB. Better than Yamamoto. Better than Skenes. Dude can hurl, even though his peripherals are meh: Also - Pride Night in Seattle! OH YEAH. Tuesday 9:40 ET - Jonah Tong vs Logan "Johnny" Gilbert Gilbert still feels like a wunderkind young pitcher to me, even though he's been on my fantasy team for years and he's already 29. Still their ace in name at least. Has extensive history against Bichette (4 for 18) and Semien (5 for 38), both of whom he's fucking annihilated. Baseball Savant notes that he can really "extend": Also: Irish Heritage Night in Seattle! O'YEAH. Wednesday 3:40 ET - Freddy Peralta vs George "Bruno" Kirby Kirby gets the ball after inhaling three scouting reports, a radar gun, and Bobby V's mustache. His pitch mix now includes a 98 mph fastball, a disappearing cutter, and the ability to hide in the corner of the dugout between innings. Expect is six dominant innings, nine strikeouts, and at least one confused batter wondering why the pitcher turned into a giant stone halfway through an at-bat. Also: World Cup Night in Seattle! GOOOOOOOOOOAL YEAH. Guys to know: OFs Randy Arozarena and Julio Rodriguez - still as dangerous as ever. 3B Colt Emerson - their top prospect; homered in his debut last week. Hitting .244/.340/.512 in thirteen games. OF Luke Raley - no relation to Brooks, as far as I can tell, but they're both lefties so we'll go Raley/Raley at least once this week. OF Dominic Canzone - has the fuckin' GALL to wear Gary Carter's uniform number. HOW DARE HE. Guys you don't have to know: C Cal Raleigh - is hurt. SP Mark Langston - retired more than 25 years ago. Ex-Mets in Seattle: GM Jerry Dipoto, bench coach Manny Acta, and first-base coach Eric Young Jr. But no players, although they have a lot of guys who feel like they were couldabeen Mets at some point: Gilbert, Luis Castillo (the pitcher), Victor Robles, Patrick Wisdom.
  13. I mean, at least he's stopped striking out all the time, so there's that, but he's actually been worse in May than he was in April. And that's play his natural position every day, too. But he's been worse at short than he was at third. 14. Conveniently, we're about to play most of those teams. LET'S FUCKIN GO. (To Seattle for three before we do all that.)
  15. Feels like Parada has been in the system forever, and I don't think he's ever hit over .250 for a full season. I don't know how excited I am about him.
  16. Feels weird to cut a lefty off the 40 so you can add another lefty to the 40 who you're just going to DFA in a few days anyway, no? I don't understand this team at all sometimes.
  17. And not even, because he's also our first *Cionel.
  18. Points! Schafer points! I remember those! I guess we stopped doing them?
  19. This is basically the exact same team we faced last week. So this'll go well. Fri 5/22, 7:10 pm: Freddy Peralta vs Max Meyer Meyer gave up one hit and three walks over seven innings on 5/23, striking out 8. Slider/sweeper/four-seamer, with some changeups and sinkers thrown in. Gets swings and misses, and leads the MLB in "swords," whatever the fuck those are. Sat 5/23, 4:10 pm: Tyler Phillips vs Christian Scott Phillips pitched 3 2/3 innings on 5/24, giving up two hits and walking two. Sun 5/24, 1:40 pm: Janson Junk vs Nolan McLean Junk hasn't faced us yet. Soto is 1 for 2, Bichette 3 for 4 in their careers against him, all singles, from his time with the Angels. Judging from all the blue in this chart, he's going to fucking destroy us. Guys to know: 2B Xavier Edwards - Speedy on-base machine. Six hits and three walks in his last four games. Plus, he's from Mineola! SS Otto Lopez - Still leading the NL in hits and BA. C/1B Liam Hicks - Hit two solo homers against us last weekend. RP Pete Fairbanks - has started to be the Fairbanks of old, with three straight scoreless outings. But two of them came against us, so they kinda don't count because that's not major league competition. Marlins Bullpen - has the lowest BA against in all of MLB. Fuckin' great. Former Mets on the roster: None, but maybe they'll take MJ Melendez or Sean Manaea home with them by mistake.
  20. I was thinking that last night too. I think the problem is that he allegedly needs *more* rest, not less (remember the five-day thing), so coming back on short rest might be more of a shift than he can handle.
  21. Yeah, Clifford hit that ball to the moon. I mean, hey, I'll take an error, strikeout, and home run every game.
  22. He can't be any worse defensively than Clifford has looked tonight. Yeesh.
  23. Out after 3 2/3. He was kind of all over the place. A lot of 57-footers, which is frustrating. 81 pitches, 42 strikes. Was topping out at 92 in the fourth after sitting at 95.
  24. Looked worse in the second before striking out the leadoff guy to end the inning. Bullpen action - might be done after 42 pitches. (21 balls, 21 strikes)
  25. He's back. Throwing from 80-81 up to 95. Struck out the side on 12 pitches.
