  2. 1. The Mets are so pitching deep -- at all levels of their organization -- that XXX should be the pitcher to be traded should any offensive need arise. A very good pitcher who'll get better. $10. Aguilera 2. It's truly awesome how few hits he allows per nine innings. His walk ratio is also maturing with time. In the end, he may prove as good as Gooden, though be careful: he became erratic late in the '86 season, and the Mets may have soured on him. $20-25. Sid 3. OF: He may never hit for average, but he walks often enough to get a lot of base-stealing opportunities (which he usually converts), and his power is undeniable. You may have to shell out $33 for him. 4. Bright lights, big city time for XXX, who, depending on how he handles things -- and how he hits in the #6 spot -- could be as popular as Reggie Jackson, or, alternatively, as George Foster. $16. McReynolds 5. OF: One of these years, he'll be the $40 player everyone thought he'd be. For the moment, $33. Strawberry 6. He can't go on forever, unless they grant a major league franchise to Cos Cob, Connecticut. Still worth a shot, if only to see him get his knee dirty. $5. Seaver 7. He may turn out to be the best SS of the 1980s, which is going some. Imagine Ozzie Smith winning the batting crown and hitting 15 home runs -- beacuse that's what XXX is going to do before the decade is over. $15. Tony Fernandez 8. What's a nice guy like him doing in a rough game like this? He'll go for a song -- always does -- because half the owners in your league wouldn't have him on their team at any price. If you're in the other half, you'll only have to ay a fraction of what his numbers are worth -- say $15 for Mr. Warmth. Note: All but one of these guys have Mets connections. Got six. #3 is the non-Met, and #8 is meant to be ironic, so Edgy's closest.
  3. Found this in the "take a book, leave a book" box at the library on campus. QUIZ TIME! Name the player. Some easy, some not. 1. And you KNOW he gives up a home run in a big spot in September to [crossout]ARod[/crossout] no, [crossout]Jeter Teixeira[/crossout] dammit [crossout]Granderson[/crossout] WHO THE HELL IS STILL ON THE YANKEES
  6. Ceetar wrote: Swan Swan H wrote: So you're saying Edgy is old? I think that's what you're saying, isn't it, with all that "I'm still technically in my prime" stuff, implying Edgy is past his. Way past his prime, is the way I'm reading it. He falls somewhere between the royal baby thing and Scott Acthison. Atichson? Atichson..dammit, don't make me look this guy up. I'm running out of years I can play the 'sorta still young/prime' card. Gotta milk it for what it's worth. FUCKIN HELL STOP REMINDING ME THAT I'M OLDER THAN SCOTT ATCHISON.
  7. metirish wrote: as long as the Yankees have to keep paying him .So yeah a lifetime ban would not be good. Totally agree.
  8. Rubin said he's not a player, but is an employee. Bullpen catcher, maybe?
  9. Edgy MD wrote: That would kind of kill the idea of adding El Mysterioso with the spontaneously developing 26th spot on the roster that they have available for double headers. 5-4, 2.57 in 13 starts (3 CG) for the Ducks.
  10. Centerfield wrote: Hell, activate Gooden. At least it will put fannies in the seats. You know, that would be enormous fun. If you're going to add someone to the roster anyway... have him work out behind the scenes for a few weeks to build up arm strength, then let him loose for one game.
  11. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think in a scenario where one has to go, you part with the one whose departure brings you more, so I'd consider dealing Byrd first. I don't think Young's hitting is any more sustainable than Byrd's power. I'm not sold on either thing lasting. This.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: fashion a Henry Owens/Matt Lindstrom type of career. Hopefully more Lindstrom (still active and productive in the ChiSox pen) than Owens (out of the majors after 2007, out of baseball after 2009).
  13. Maybe he'll celebrate by drawing a walk some time this season.
  14. The thing about roster/bullpen/bench that will always stay with me from my baseball interactions as a kid is that Micro League Baseball on the C64 had exactly ten pitching slots. The 1927 Yankees used nine pitchers for all but one of their innings that season, which meant Walter Beall, with only one IP all season, from one game in May, made the roster.
  15. Ryan started 10 games in '69. You wonder, if he was pressed into service just a little more, and struck out just a few more guys...
  16. That's the girl from Survivor!

What are you trying to imply there pal? i think, clearly, there's a difference between "big sexual success" and all of freaking latvia. How many nationality's have you been with?

  20. I still don't get why Casey's 37 is retired.
  21. I think I'm still madly in love with Melissa Joan Hart.
  22. Swan Swan H wrote: The number he chose to take, which I still think of as Tug's number. Plus PEDRO. Let Wheeler make 45 his bitch, then we retire it in 2030 for Tug/Franco/Pedro/Wheeler.
  23. I think you could retire 31 for Franco/Piazza -- it had a solid 15-year run with two guys who are All-Time Mets. I love Keith, but I understand not retiring it; same for Gary/Doc/Darryl. I vote for 31 and nothing else right now.
  24. I'd retire Koosman before Beltran. (And I wouldn't retire Koos either.)
  25. I loved Carlos, and would love to have him back. But I don't know he did enough to retire 15. If that 2006 team had won something? Maybe.
