  2. Frayed Knot wrote: It means if we get 2-hit again I'm going to shoot myself. It's okay. There's no way this team gets two hits off Kershaw.
  3. How have we never heard of this before? Weird.
  4. Zvon wrote: Cuddyer pulled and Ceciliani takes left. No word yet as to why. Traded to the Angels for Mike Trout, hopefully.

He's got a wrestler's roidy-lookin' case of male pattern baldness. He's an inspiration when he's hitting, but can disappear for months at a time, with no corresponding dialing down of the attitude. He's practically John Buck without the catching gear. He's white, so we're legally obliged to term him a "throwback" a throwback to the time when all ballplayers were dangerous sociopaths living by the code of a brutal street gang. I'm amazed at how on top of every player people are here. And you should see Edgy's scouting report on Mrs. McGehee.
  6. Upper Deck definitely did that stuff on purpose, especially in the first few years.
  7. Oh, the Bird is a good one.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: What's the reading material in the lower left? Looks sorta like "John Grisham" on the bottom.

  10. This grew out of my FB post this afternoon, remembering Moonlight Graham on the 110th anniversary of his game. Admittedly, his game is only famous because of Shoeless Joe/Field of Dreams, but I think Herb Washington is the only one we've mentioned who comes close in terms of notability.
  11. edit: Rainchecks only redeemable on a space-available basis for tomorrow's game. Makes sense.
  12. I'll be there on Saturday with the kiddos. (Actually have a fourth ticket if anyone is interested.)
  13. Well, the countdown is zero. LET'S DO THIS, MATZ.
  14. "Well! Terry got angry! Maybe we should start not being terrible at baseball, then!"

  16. Yeah, but Gee's got the rest of a $5M contract coming. So it's not as likely.
  17. There's NO way we're worse than Phillies fans. They should have used the CPF in their calculations.
  18. ARod's 3000th hit tonight was a home run, just like Cap'n Intangibles. Amazingly, the ball was caught by the only person less likable than ARod in the entire park, ballhawk Zack Hample. (Who actually tweeted this afternoon about trying to catch #3000.)
  19. Seriously, fuck MLB on this. If they're winning the vote, they're winning the vote. Don't be a dick just because you don't like it.
  20. MFS62 wrote: And maybe the first time two 40-somethings with last names of body parts have started against each other. Later That made me laugh out loud in public.
  21. And honestly, GEE ISN'T ALL THAT GOOD. He's better than you, he's better than me, he's better than lots of guys. But he's got a 91 career ERA+, doesn't strike guys out, and will be 30 next year. I'll remember him, but I'm not ruing the loss. If he had that much value, he'd be in someone's rotation by now, either ours or someone else's.
  22. The body's not even cold! Come on, Mets. Plenty of numbers you can give the kid. I liked Dillon Gee. Never great, never awful. He was John Maine for a new generation.
  23. BUT EVEN IF THEY DID RELEASE HIM IT WOULD LIKELY HAVE TO DO WITH A LACK OF ACCEPTABLE BASEBALL PERFORMANCE AND NOT BECAUSE HE MAY OR MAY NOT BE A RIGHT-WING NUTJOB
  24. Oh, FFS. NEW YORK METS RELEASE PITCHER WHO SUCKS JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THE OTHER AVAILABLE PITCHING OPTIONS AND THEY NEEDED TO BRING UP A RELIEVER
  25. Lefty Specialist wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It is funny where you've seen enough baseball to know that any pitcher can dominate any hitter on any night, and vice versa, but put a Jeff Francouer or a kid just up from the Florida State League onto a big league mound, and -- BLAMMO. No contest. Yeah, I felt bad for the kid. Hope he makes it back to whittle down that lifetime major league ERA a bit. Me too. I do wish him the best; I remember when we were looking at the 40-man possibilities during the offseason giving him a real look for the first time, and I think he could be a player some day. But that was admittedly a really tough spot.
