  1. Clifford. Yeah, strikeouts, but that's MLB these days. His .749 OPS would be the best on this team other than Soto, and by a lot. And yeah, I know, regression with the level jump. Who cares? We literally can't be any worse than we are right now. (Is it too late to apologize to Pete?)
  2. In no world is Craig Kimbrel a HOFer.
  3. 2024: 22-33, came within eighteen innings of the World Series 2026: 22-33, ??? This is it. The low point. IT IS ALL GOOD THINGS FROM HERE. (Except for the whole "that team was way better than this team" problem.)
  4. The JK Simmons/Spiderman thing was funny last night, although odd that my dude was wearing a Tigers shirt under his Mets jersey.
  5. I even turned off the little score widget on my phone. If I want to know, I'll look. I don't want to know right now.
  6. Crikey, this team is fucking awful.
  7. For better or worse, the thing we'll remember above everything is the pitching stance. Was weird to see it in a Mets uniform after so many years in Atlanta; dude made mincemeat out of our hitters for a long time. I thought there was no way he'd make the team when they signed him, then figured he'd spend a few weeks in Syracuse before opting out like so many vets stuck in AAA do. Turned out he lasted a lot longer on the active roster than any of us would have expected (or hoped).
  8. Okay, the rookie experiment didn't work BRING BACK KIMBREL AND SLATER
  9. We're all in on the kids, right? I guess we have to just see what happens. I mean, half this team was marked for AAA this season, so they're *going* to be bad. It just is.
  10. Man, there was a period of time about a week or so ago when I legit thought we were going to work our way out of this. Oy.
  11. Yeah, I thought about sticking Jeff Conine or something in there, but... nah.
  12. Fri 5/22, 7:10 pm: Tobias Myers vs Eury Perez Perez is the wunderkind, just 23 years old, throwing hard and having no idea where the ball is going. He’s 2-6 for a reason. 0-3, 10.00 ERA in three starts against the Mets. It's also Naruto Night, with special ticket package holders receiving horrendous orange Naruto-inspired jerseys. Sat 5/23, 4:10 pm: Freddy Peralta vs Max Meyer Meyer is their sort-of #2 (we’ll miss Alcantara, who pitched last night) with a 2.85 ERA. He’s 27 and he’s never thrown more than 111 innings in a season, at any level, and he’s already halfway there. 1-1, 3.48 career against the Mets. It's also Cuban Heritage Night, featuring Livan Hernandez pins. Sun 5/24, 1:40 pm: Christian Scott vs ? Braxton Garrett was in this spot in the rotation, but was sent down. Thankfully, the first 5,000 fans (like they'll get that many! heyoooooooo) receive color-changing Marlins cups. Guys to know: 2B Xavier Edwards - Speedy on-base machine. Seven-game hitting streak. SS Otto Lopez - Carrying my fantasy team, leading the NL in hits and BA. C/1B Liam Hicks - Somehow leading the NL in RBI? Everyone else in the lineup is pretty much meh. They can run, but are otherwise MLB-average offensively in most categories. Pete Fairbanks, the big free agent RP, is their closer. He’s somehow been worse than Williams on Williams’ worst days, with an ERA of 9.00. Just came back from the IL. They're managed by a guy named Clayton McCullough. If you gave me a thousand guesses, I wouldn't have gotten that right. Former Mets on the roster: None. All-Time Mets/Marlins Team: C Mike Piazza 1B Carlos Delgado 2B Luis Castillo 3B Todd Zeile SS Jose Reyes LF Cliff Floyd CF Curtis Granderson RF Gary Sheffield DH is stupid SP Al Leiter, Livan Hernandez RP Braden Looper, David Weathers, Armando Benitez Marlins Ballpark: loanDepot Park The home run statue was moved outside in 2018, but it's still a weird place. Went to back-to-back games there several years ago, one with the roof closed where it felt like an airplane hangar, and one with it open where it was absolutely gorgeous. Plays like a slight pitchers park, overall. Cool feature: the bobblehead museum, a giant display case with shelves that vibrate so the bobbles bobble. My pics from 2015:
  13. lolmfys 0-3 vs Tampa, 0-3 vs Milwaukee. Everyone else they've played is under .500.
  14. I guess we're also waiting on Minter at this point, who should be back next week.
  15. There are a series of guys from those post-86 years when I was playing a lot of Micro League Baseball on the C64, and I would create these "prospects" regardless of whether they were actual prospects, with stats based on whatever I could find. Torve was one of those guys who I "called up" and he had a phenomenal season, because all I knew was that the dude was a .300 hitter in AAA. Same with Lou Thornton; he stole 100 bases for me one season. I still have a soft spot for Julio Machado, who was a Micro League bullpen mainstay long before he murdered somebody.
  16. I keep waiting for the day that we get to post the Memories of Craig Kimbrel thread. Other guys on the 40: Alex Carrillo (5.74 ERA with 19 walks in 15 innings) Daniel Duarte (just sent down, but 2.60 in 17 IP) Joey Gerber (9.28 in 10.2 IP in Syracuse) Jonathan Pintaro (2.52 in 25 IP with 32 K) Dylan Ross (1.54 ERA across three levels) Anderson Severino (0.98 in 18 IP, including one start) I leave off Tong because he's a starter replacement.
  17. I've always conflated Zach Littell with Mark Littell, an unrelated Cardinals pitcher in the early 80s. I remember the elder Littell because his 1981 Topps card not only looked badly airbrushed, but my copy also had a fuzzy printing error that made it look like he was bleeding from the eyes. It was so weird.
  18. All guys who are usually solid defensively. Sometimes you just don't have it. But it now underscores the importance of the next two.
  19. 1304: Vidal Brujan 5/7/2026 1305: AJ Ewing 5/12/2026 1306: Nick Morabito 5/19/2026 1307: Daniel Duarte 5/19/2026
