  1. Was at the game last night with the whole gaggle of marathons. Thought I saw a lunchbucket & son walking past the big Apple brew. Enjoyed the home run show, and snagged some sweet toasty blankets.
  2. My official votes are Wright Keith Carter. I would totally support Beltran too.
  3. Guys. I'm throwing in the towel. But at least we're not the cubs.
  4. but if syndergaard is two wins worse with ramos, it balances out.
  5. so, i'm not entirely sure my math is correct here. but bear me out. nido has a ~.550 OPS and ramos has a 0.800 OPS. ramos has a .363 OBP and .438 SLG. nido has a .232 OBP and a .317 SLG. in the same 5 plate appearances, ramos reaches base 1.82 times, whereas nido reaches 1.16 times. in the same 4 at bats, ramos gains 1.74 bases, whereas nido gains 1.27. the difference between these players, offensively, over the course of a game is... half a base or so...? maybe a full base if you think you can add the partial contribution of OBP to the partial contribution of SLG. what i'm saying is, that whatever offensive contribution ramos has over nido, in the course of a single game, is not at all overweighing the 0.75 runs in cERA difference. and if that cERA effect is greater for syndergaard, for whatever reasons, then the offset is even farther. basically, it's not at all unreasonable to think that syndergaard, and the mets, might be better off with nido catching.
  6. they're missing out on the awesomeness of having the cornfield be the actual outfield wall. i'd even watch a yankee game to see that!

  8. =Centerfield post_id=16984 time=1564425826 user_id=65] I hope that this deal is not a justification for dealing Noah Syndergaard, because that would be beyond dumb.

  10. Good god this home run derby is fucking fun.
  11. i do suppose that's a better name than the ray-pos...
  12. well, i'm struggling to find people healthy and/or good enough that i want them anywhere near my starting lineup. ideally i pace myself. particularly with catchers. if a guy is slumping, i don't want to give him games when i might want to have those games in my pocket later in the season. at risk, of course, of a few counting stats.
  13. =HahnSolo post_id=7622 time=1555598226 user_id=63] If a guy shows up the pitcher, then in his next AB, he gets one in his rear end, I think they're even. What I'm not sure in this case is whether Anderson was showing anybody up with the original flip. Looked like genuine emotion.
  14. if he was, he should definitely cheat a hell of a lot less often.
  15. woohoo! opening day! I'm home with a sick minimm, so i can actually watch some of it. unfortunately, he has a doctor's appointment at 1:30, so i also get to miss some of it. sigh.... but at least i saw the cano caboom.
  16. yay, opening day!
  17. 91 win wildcard. They lose in the NLCS
  18. one of these years (it probably should have been this past year), i'm just going to gut my roster and stick around through the end of the draft to snag all the $1 bargains that are likely to outperform my bevy of $4-$10 players.
  19. i kinda like the three batter rule as well. it puts a bit more pressure on relievers to be effective, and on managers to know the effectiveness of their relievers on that day. heck, maybe starters will be relied on more heavily if managers don't want to risk an ineffective reliever. maybe relievers will learn to become more effective against both sides of the plate, instead of being able to focus on only one side. if harper's at bat with two outs and two on, you get him out your job is done. better throw strikes. because if he's looking for a walk, you're in big trouble! i know there's stats on how many pitchers pitches to fewer than three batters, but how many of those did so by closing out an inning? how many got pulled, mid inning, before facing three batters? i'm just curious how often the rule would have actually affected managerial strategy outcomes in the past season.
  20. I'm all tapped out on available Mets/baseball fans
  21. I'm cool with this. One more reason to hate the Phillies. Also should take them out of the mike trout sweepstakes
  22. The more I think about it, the more it makes perfect sense that the first round draft pick should go to the best team that just missed the playoffs. Reward teams for trying to win, either with playoff spots or with good young players. Teams should not be punished for playing well, and players should not be punished for teams trying to win.
  23. =nymr83 post_id=2900 time=1550165819 user_id=54] Of course if the braves spent more, and the mets spent more and everyone else spent more - every team would be exactly where they are now in terms of wins and talent. But the ticket prices would be higher. The argument for the Mets is that its NY and there shoyld be enough revenue to outspend these other teams, not spend more with them
