Here's an idea, how about declaring sections nut free instead of an entire stadium? My God-daughter has a horrific nut allergy, so much so, that my sister-in-law was able to get funding for a service dog especially trained to detect nuts. So we are very much in tune with what has to be done for her. But this is fucking nuts.

i think that if you cut down on the time between pitches, and the time between pitching changes, and the time between innings, you'd solve so much of the "problem" with baseball. you'd have fewer commericals, but you might be able to charge more for each one! i'd love to see relegation, but i don't think it remotely possible with the way the minor leagues are constructed. it would be great, though, for a major league team like the marlins to get replaced by their own minor league affiliate in the new orleans baby cakes. i think the revised draft order with the first pick going to the first team to miss the playoffs is the next best thing. it would put a hell of a lot more jeopardy on that wild card plain game, now wouldn't it? i wonder if you would ever have a team try to not make the play-in if they were a real long shot, just so they could have the first pick instead of the 23rd (or whatever)....? but you need to reward teams for competing, especially if so much of the revenues come from league-wide sources and so much less of it is tied directly to their on-field success.

i'm thinking that being from texas, and having a cannon for an arm, thor might make for a decent qb. not sure how he is at reading the defenses, of course, but he can probably air it out with the best of them.

looking forward, 2021 is going to be the opportunity to maybe possibly clear the board of some of the backlog. the first year candidate list is headed by such luminaries as aramis ramirez, torii hunter, mark buehrle, and tim hudson. none of whom are hall of famers. and after derek jeter, there's really also no 2020 guys who should merit much consideration, unless you have an unhealthy hankering for jason giambi, alfonso soriano, or bobby abreu.

i'm still a sucker. always. i even look at it from the standpoint of, if yo is ever healthy again, he'd become an expensive but valuable trade chip. if he's not healthy, we'd be stuck paying him either way, so why not maybe pay for him to play somewhere else while getting something of value in return if he is healthy.

i went cano - lowrie - rosario - frazier around the diamond. mostly, i like to be different. i think that might be the best defensive setup, without diving into the numbers too deeply. they'll probably start with kc's setup, though. unless somebody is hurt or traded, those four have to be the starters.

FanGraphs has him as our #1 3b right now, fwiw.

wow, the steamer projections really crap all over broxton, don't they? despite averaging about a 0.420 SLG the past three seasons with the brewers, they have him at a meager 0.331. his AVG and OBP seem to track with past seasons, though. if his steamer projections hold true, he'd be a worse player than lagares, WAR-wise. either way, i should think that he should not hold us back from trying to further improve the outfield. but he probably will. c'mon brodie, prove me wrong.

NY's population is 8.6 million people. Boston has a population of 685,000. NY outnumbers Boston by 8 million people. what is the "fan base" though? New York is split between 2 teams and has Philly fans to the south/southwest, Boston has all of New England? Not sure. But the first list suggests they capture a large audience beyond the city as they are #7 market in the US. But it's hard to imagine any surrounding area making up the difference in population. NYC has 8.6 million people. Let's be conservative and allocate 70% of that market to the MFY. That still leaves 2.58 million for the Mets. And that's not counting LI, NJ, upstate NY and parts of CT. the entire population of new england (minus connecticut) (~9M) is slightly more than the population of the 5 boroughs of new york city (~8.6M). lets do some math. for the purposes of this exercise, let's consider all of new york state to be fans of either the yankees or the mets. we'll add in 1/2 of connecticut, and 2/3 of jersey. which is unfair because jersey is too good of a state too have so many of us fall sway to the phillies. but whatever - it's an approximation, and i'm trying to be overly conservative... new york has 19M people. CT has 3.5M and NJ has 7M. of that, we allocate 1.75M and 4.7M respectively to the NY market. total available fanbase of 25.4M. applying the 70/30 split above, the mets should have about 7.6M to draw from. it's a bit shy of the 10.75 i'm allocating to boston, and far short of the 17.8M i'm giving the yankees. but it still a big enough number that the mets should be pretty big players in the payroll games. also, it goes without saying that as the mets fortunes improve, their share of the new york market can grow as well. in other words. spend spend spend.

i'll gladly play in a traditional non-auction baseball league.

yeah, i'm coming to the conclusion that the mets need to be all-in on pollock, unless they accidentally decide to go out and get harper instead. which i would be a-ok with, y'know. i'm leery of big ass contracts, and of harper. but i think he might be just what this team needs. and he's young enough that the downside of the contract is likely going to be farther off into the future.

The field being at street level and therefore acccessible therefrom. I'm convinced this is the reason the the run to home plate is no more - it's a bit of a stair climb and maze craze to get onto that verdant pasture for the kids races after the game. And that torturous path is just no way to close out a 5k. Which sucks. I miss that run to home plate so much. Especially now that at least two of my theee kids can run a 5k!

So without making any adjustments the Mets project out 5th best in the NL. 5games back of the nats. But also 5 games up on the braves. Phillies just behind that, and marlins ways down in sucksville. Sure, machado and Harper have yet to land, but unless both end up in the east, we're in decent shape. I'd still like to be stronger of course. Know any good first basemen?

i'm pissed that i missed out on the last end credits scene - but i had a kid who needed to pee... i thought the movie was tremendous, and loved the artistic style. it really captured the comic book feel. and spider-ham was just.. wow. The kids loved it, though it was a bit too intense for ummR at times. very loud and explosiony at times. but they managed to follow the plot well enough, and weren't overly confused by all the spidermans. or at least they did not relay any such confusion to me. i'm sure the little guys were just like "cool, cool, more spidermans. bring it on" outstanding all around. i'd give it either 5 or 10 stars, depending on the scale, if there was a poll. I'm looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

I really don’t want to have to go out and buy a yankee hat for ummL. Don’t make me do it Brodie. Don’t you fucking make me do it. I’m not a yankee fan, but I don’t think there’s anyone on their roster that they wouldn’t be happy to let go in order to get Thor back. Because there’s really nobody there that I’d rather have. Clearly this is all emotion talking. Severino plus andujar? Sure. That’s some good value (that I just pulled out of my ass. .) But I still don’t want it.
