  1. ex-met todd frazier is now on the best baseball team in sussex county, nj, as he's recently joined the sussex county miners to keep his body warm and ready for olympic glory. he seems like such a down-to-earth guy. out there, having fun. talking with all the minor leaguers, the umps. made time for the fans before the game, signing baseballs and baseball cards. having failed to adequately plan for the occasion, i had to run out to the gift shop, buy a ball, and run to my car to get a marker, too, but i managed to get a nice signed miners ball, and the marathon family got a picture with him too. luckily, i'm too dumb to think of anything to say. so i just smiled bigly and dumly as we stood there in the aura of a major leaguer. it was a doubleheader. he went 0-3, clearly swinging too hard in what i can imagine is a terrible no-win situation, but had a nice play at third. he finally picked up his first hit over the weekend, a double. the miners, by the way, just moved to the frontier league, which is now officially a partner league of mlb. so, big-time-adjacent!
  2. Jacob deGrom spin rates: 2021 slider - 2600 2020 slider - 2565 2019 slider - 2455 2018 slider - 2497 2017 slider - 2453 2016 slider - 2414 2021 curve- 2724 2020 curve- 2632 2019 curve- 2569 2018 curve- 2563 2017 curve- 2549 2016 curve- 2432 https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jacob-degrom-594798?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlbhttps://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jacob-degrom-594798?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb oh boy - data! degrom's spin rate on fastballs tracks with velocity. if you divide spin rate by velocity, he's been at about 24.5 hz/mph (i think that unit is then... hours per mile-second). i can therefore convert that figure to... inches! huzzah! degrom's spin rate per velocity (srpv) on fastballs is... about 1.40 inches. (a baseball's diameter is 1.43 inches). note, i have no idea if this is a legit way of looking at things. but i'm doing it. deal. his srpv going backwards from '21 to '15 is... 1.39 | 1.43 | 1.40 | 1.40 | 1.41 | 1.39 | 1.34 no noteworthy changes there. on changeups... these actually go down. which likely means his grip is getting deeper and deeper. i dunno... anyways... spin rate on changeups is dropping over time. starting again with '21... 1.01 | 1.02 | 1.07 | 1.09 | 1.16 | 1.12 | 1.15 on curveballs... 1.85 | 1.78 | 1.73 | 1.76 | 1.78 | 1.71 | 1.43 hmm.... small jump since last year with a small sample. then pretty consistent i guess back to '15. on sinkers, which he has't thrown in '21 or '20... 1.34 | 1.35 | 1.38 | 1.34 | 1.28 and sliders. 1.61 | 1.58 | 1.51 | 1.56 | 1.56 | 1.54 | 1.47 so, i don't know how srpv is supposed to reveal itself if one is using sticky stuff. it's clear that degrom is gradually decreasing the spin rate on his changeup, and increasing the spin on his curve - which he doesn't throw. the rest of his pitches are pretty consistently about the same. slight differences, but nothing that jumps out as "insert magic stuff here" unless he started using the stuff back in '16, as that's the only time there was a noticable jump on any of his pitches' srpv. ..... oh, hey. since i'm here. let's look at gerrit cole! fastball srpv from '21 backwards: 1.49 | 1.47 | 1.48 | 1.40 | 1.28 | 1.29 | 1.27. hmmm...... somethng clearly changed from 17 to 19. changeup srpv: 1.11 | 1.13 | 1.20 | 1.08 | 1.05 | 1.08 | 1.09 not as smoking gunnish. curve: 1.93 | 1.91 | 2.00 | 1.96 | 1.88 | 1.83 | 1.70 there seems to be a change there, but seems to materialize a year sooner than the fastball.... sinker: -.-- | -.-- | 1.47 | 1.37 | 1.25 | 1.27 | 1.27 there again seems to be a change happening, though with no data for the two most recent years, its hard to pick up nything. slider: 1.74 | 1.65 | 1.67 | 1.65 | 1.56 | 1.47 | 1.25 hmm... once again, there's a change in his most recent 4 years. i don't know what this all means. other than is looks more like something changed for cole about 3-4 years ago, whereas degrom's changes have been somewhat more gradual. i think. oh, and by way of comparison... trevor bauer's fastball srpv: 1.71 | 1.69 | 1.45 | 1.40 | 1.37 | 1.36 | 1.35 yeah... there might be something up there. ya think?
  3. once de mayo is left out in the sun, you're better off just throwing it away.
  4. cal ripken looks like the mayor of a medium-sized town who really, really wishes people thought of it as a small city.
  5. Wow. What a way to mets this up...!
  6. =Centerfield post_id=62518 time=1619736240 user_id=65] I see. So we did it to save money? Thanks BG!
  7. i think they just went and changed the station numbers, or something. they had announced on air a few times about it, and also said your radio presets should auto-adjust. i believe its on channel 79 regardless of if you're officially listening to sirius or xm.
  8. huh. the sny one is the most legible. simple, yes. but legible is a pretty good feature. if i'm in a bar or restaurant with sports tvs on, 'm hoping they're tuned to sny. not only because the mets would be on, but because i'd have the best chance of actually knowing what's going on in the game.
  9. Wow. The Mets are metsing in full midsession form.
  10. bring it to citi, to make up for canceling our (road) opening day. and as a reward for not signing that dickhead bauer.
  11. my baseballs are getting blue. this is awful.
  12. fucking hell. there goes my evening!
  13. scoop - there it is. sorry, had that song stuck in my head for a long time now. sprinkles!!!
  14. 1. 95-67 2. first 3. yes 4. World champs 5. mets 6. 44
  15. i think when the league first started, maybe... i think we're also the only league i play in where that matters.
  16. oof. 7pm is tough. later would be better. but i'll make it work either way. maybe i just need to beef up my pre-rankings
  17. yeah, position players can score in any position that they're eligible for. so if you've got a strong outfielder, who happens to be infield-eligible, you can play him there in lieu of some weak-hitting shortstop. not that those things still exist.... pitchers are different. eligibility is meaningless, unlike nearly every other format. if you've got a starter starting, and he gets into a game as a reliever, or after an opener opens for him, that doesn't count. if you've got a reliever, and he gets a spot start, or an opening, he needs to be in your lineup as a starter. it all made more sense before openers became a thing.
  18. yay! signed myself up, and also snagged a team for minimm
  19. hey what happened? i thought i had done enough to keep my team active for this year. but maybe not proactively enough. is there still a spot open and available, or maybe two so i can compete against minimm instead of possibly collaborating with him....
  20. i love the black. but i love the pinstripes and snow whites more. bring back the black, but only in moderation. but, uh, ixnay on the drop shadow and the rest the other stuff.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: That was me, and nobody else, I think. And I wasn't so much meaning to comment on the quality of his complexion as I was trying to note his relative adolescence in a camp full of men. Sorry again about that. Pete's mom, of course, is Met-lovin' big shot actress Ashley Crow, star of Little Big League, among other quality productions. Have you already cast Kyra Sedgwick only to find out that you need to fill the role of Kyra's sister as well? Why not consider Ashley Crow?! [fimg=600]https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2020/06/15/PNJM/06022c4e-ee65-4a6a-a77c-d8f3f4ae010e-IMG-0142.JPG?auto=webp&crop=749,422,x0,y0&format=pjpg&width=1200[/fimg] holy shit, they were both actors on heroes. she was the cheerleader's mom, and he was the radioactive guy - and is also totally not the geico caveman.
  22. i'll play. and hopefully pay attention to it. i'm so much worse at checking in to yahoo than ottoneu.
  23. i like the black unis, and i like pete. 255/355/570, 45 and 115. all black on the hats, though. no blue bills. nobody likes blue bills.
  24. the real problem with the rule is that it kicks in so early in the season, that the club gets nearly a full season out of a player, and the player gets nearly a full season of incredibly below-market salary. if the cutoff were later in the season i think you'd see it affect fewer players. or maybe more. it's sometimes pretty hard to tell how the unintended consequences play out.
  25. on a more serious note, i was hoping, given the options remaining on the table, that they would go after either walker or odorizzi. so i'm pretty cool with this move.
