  1. Please no Cookie cutting.
  2. I hope Taijuan Walker ends up as good on the mound as he is in interviews. Quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
  3. I am meeting the Mets. Eff u, work.
  4. Looks like today is on SNY. 99 WALKER on the bump.
  5. That maybe explains the Mikel Franco interest, I guess? And 4 months for a meniscus? Tough blow, Jose.
  6. Yeah if the book is as good as that excerpt, we're all in luck. Also, why am I surprised still at how much of a dick Clemens comes off as? Like, I already knows he's dick, but still.
  7. I totally missed that Bauer was on the replies. I didn't look past Chuey Martinez. What an absolute tool Bauer is.
  8. Sub-tweeting is referring to somebody without tagging them in said tweet. Pretty on-brand that Bauer took it to "ALL HUMAN BEINGS MATTER" Edit: Also, did fman say that Alonso deleted social media today?
  9. Walker has worn 0, 00 and 99 in his career. Do we know his new uni number yet?
  10. This is kinda backing what Duan said, but I bet a large chunk of his bravado is a life's worth of being told you're too short, you don't throw hard enough, and I would bet at some point or points, he's been treated differently than some of his white counterparts along the way. He may have a lot of valid reasons for chips on his shoulder.
  11. Yeah I'm fine with Taijuan Walker as our #4 or #5 when Noah is back and I'm fine with him next year, too. And, yes, I'm really happy the Mets do have an "8-man rotation". Like more than 5 capable starters is a bad thing. The Dodgers have been doing it for years and when a guy got hurt, there was Rich Hill. And when Rich Hill got hurt, here's Julio Urias. And if someone else got hurt, they'd plug in Ross Stripling. The Mets have had bodies to shuffle in and out, but I rarely had confidence in any of those spot starters. We'll see if Yamamoto or Luccesi instill that same confidence, but at least they've been doing it. In '19, the Pads ran out Joey 30 times, and the Marlins gave Yamamoto 15 starts, of basically league average work and that's probably ok for spot starts, I think.
  12. I'm going to confidently nominate Sean Reid-Foley as DHM 2021. 2nd round pick, former top prospect, still only 25. His velo ticked up a bit last year, too. He'll stay healthy and be a surprisingly reliable arm as a reliever and spot-starter. By the end of the season, he'll leapfrog Henn, Gilmartin and Green (who?) to be the best "Sean" in Mets history. Sorry I just jinxed the shit out of you, Sean Reid-Foley.
  13. Lefty Specialist wrote: Ay caramba. They'll be paying him until 2035, which is when the Mets finally stop paying Bobby Bonilla. There's no way this works out well for the Padres in the long run. 14 years is ridiculous. At some point they'll be a rebuilding team and this will look even more ridiculous. I don't know. He *just* turned 22 and his first two seasons have been sensational. They can maybe get 10 years (!!!) of elite production at $24M AAV. I think that could make the "down years" easier to stomach.
  14. His fangraphs WAR:dollars was $29M in 2019 and $23.1M in the abbreviated 2020. It's a lot of risk, but I feel like both parties are gonna be pretty happy with this deal.
  15. Intense is the perfect word. I think Marcus is a gun guy, btw. I've seen a couple shots of him on IG at shooting ranges. Was a little relieved to hear he doesn't hate Pillar.
  16. Hits lefties better than Almora. Otherwise, if we are aiming to get guys who can go get it, I'd rather we go out and get guys who can STILL go get it, rather than guys we kindasorta recall could go get it back when. AND he taunted Jason Motte with "f#ggot" repeatedly a few years ago. Bestill my blue-and-orange heart. Still working on their vetting and hiring practices, I see.
  17. I still expect a Taijuan Walker or Trevor Rosenthal or a trade for Kris Bryant which is insane because the Mets have already been one of the most active two or three teams in baseball but I still think they're shaking more trees for fruit. The Mets, you guys! Last year we were all kind of surprised and a little excited that they maybe got a frontline reliever in Betances and then we stomached the Porcello and Wacha signings and that was it. Now they're building around a really great, young core and my only worry about not doing it NOW!!!! is flittering away peak Jacob deGrom. But this team's looking pretty damn good.
  18. Yeah, Pillar would seem to spell the end of Guillermo Heredia's opening day dreams, huh. Our 4th and 5th outfielders should be able to run it down, hopefully protecting lots of late-inning wins.
  19. The inspiration for the '93 home unis right there.
  20. A google image search of "Jared Hughes" reveals some of the goofiest picture day portraits you'll ever see. Would love to see Jared v. Heath Bell in a bullpen-to-mound sprint-off. Fun stuff aside, he was a very good Major League pitcher for a long time. Retires with a 137 ERA+ without anything you'd confuse for strikeout stuff. Hats off to ya, Jared.
  21. I don't think this is it, and I'd be surprised if they don't swing one more trade and/or sign a #5 starter. I do think the Mets are decidedly better and should be a playoff team and from there, who the hell knows (I think PECOTA has them at 96 wins, whatever you think of PECOTA). The Dodgers to me seem the only team with stupid depth that can handle just about any calamity, though.
  22. Fman, is that you???
  23. He didn't quite have the ears, but I always thought he looked like a young Isringhausen. Hope he gets to enjoy a little late career success like Izzy. https://dehayf5mhw1h7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/402/2017/04/08112511/paul-sewald.jpg> https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mvhsQAhQwtM/Ug--GITQNFI/AAAAAAAAvUY/xUnWcR2B0Xk/s400/Izzy.jpg>
  24. How many dudes are currently on the 40? Sorry to muddy up the emotional farewells to Ali.
  25. I remember reading this thread and learning Ali Sanchez was a Met. Ah, memories. 2020 was a rough one, yall. Good luck, Ali.
