2. Outman may have just saved the Dodgers season with that catch, holy crap.
3. MLB app shows this game and Phils/Braves both on TBS. Who picks up the Dodgers game while PHI/ATL is still on?
4. d'Arnaud hits a two-run bomb off Wheeler and my Met brain doesn't know how to feel
5. I posted something on Otto to see who all is coming back. I'm not sure I know everyone there anymore. Smiggy58 is commish, right? I'm terrible but I love that league.
6. Seems like if Eppler was going to stay on, this IL investigation changed that pretty quickly. MLBTR speculates a penalty of fines or suspensions if the Mets are found to have violated rules. That would suck if we lose healthy player(s) in '24 for any length of time to serve suspensions for gaming the system. THANKS BILLY.

The Mets have done quite a bit worse in the recent past, but they can also do better and hopefully they will. Remind me to copy and paste this post sometime later in the week when it's Eppler's turn. Everybody try to get the ball to smg. Feed the hot hand.
8. He probably resigned like Buck did. I think Eppler was pretty decent, for sure better than I thought he'd be. But makes sense STOINS is going with all his own people.
9. Congrats, mm. Great late season resurgence and beat down. Yeah hopefully we can get a couple more heads next year and have some playoffs or head-to-head or something.
10. Do we need any new peeps or are we all back for next year? Looks like arbitration is coming up in a couple weeks and IIRC last year a couple few teams were ghost ships and didn't participate.
11. I had this one on in the background today, weird ass game. Jays didn't score anyway, but the way they handled their starter Berrios was super weird. He seemed like he was cruising (3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K) going into the 4th. He walks the leadoff guy in the top of 4 and they yank him at 47 pitches before he would face some lefties, and the lefty reliever promptly loads the bases and gives up the 2 runs that would prove to win it. Michael Kay and A-Rod on the call (rough listening) were both convinced it was pre-planned to get to that point and pull him. Who knows, but it didn't work, whatever the plan was.
12. I know how I feel and I know what the Mets said after the deadline, but I wasn't sure about Stoins. I'd guess it's 70/30 Pete is here past '24. But I damn sure hope he is.
13. Stuff this morning in The Athletic confirms Buck was given the option to resign or be fired. He said he'd never quit on his guys so he was shit-canned. Stearns wants his own manager and that was that. And glad Edgy posted that vid of Lindor's daughter. It was funny, when I heard the news, I wondered how bummed that kid would be before anything else. Happy trails, Buck. You were good by me. https://theathletic.com/4919791/2023/10/02/mets-buck-showalter-fired/https://theathletic.com/4919791/2023/10/02/mets-buck-showalter-fired/
14. Was trying to rewatch some Hanks stuff recently and see some I hadn't seen, but this one wasn't on the radar. I guess I missed a lot of stuff in 2020.
15. looking back at it, the Nats got the Pads (at the time) #1, #2, #4, #5 and #19 prospects per MLB, plus Luke Voit (Josh Bell also went the other way). The Mets would have a year or less of control so I imagine the prospect price would be a little cheaper, but I still don't really think the Mets would go to such great lengths and expense to re-build the farm to just trade the best of em away so soon.
16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Buster Olney, by process of elimination, determined that Pham was talking about McNeil and Vogelbach. Was this in print or on tv somewhere? Those names make plenty of sense anyway. We've been speculating here on McNeil too and all the golf he (allegedly by me) won't stop playing.
17. mm steamrolling his way to the cup. I think i was up by like 2 points last week and now I'm down 6. It's less a free fall and more getting pushed off the roof.
18. Just finished it. The TL:DR was basically, everything went wrong. The Pham quote was one of the many theories and most of them were not rebuked, but were met with replies like, "that could be it, but it could also be this other thing, too." Injuries, age, slow starts, regression, preparedness, WBC - all of them were, in some way or combination, valid reasons for the raging trash fire that was the 2023 Mets. Pete Alonso repeatedly trying to take all the blame made me love that big, hairy baby all the more. It was late in June, and Pete Alonso had ducked his head into Showalter's office — again — trying to explain himself. The month had unraveled into a nightmare for Alonso, a nightmare for the Mets. There had been a slump and a losing streak, an injury, a deeper slump and more losing. As Showalter would later recall, in those meetings, Alonso looked like he wanted to apologize for not driving in every run, for not hitting every home run. Alonso would plead to his manager, “This isn't who I am.” “Pete, I know,” Showalter would kindly respond. “You don't need to tell me this.” Looking back in late August, Showalter said it was important at the time to just let Alonso talk. “I guess it was more so for me,” Alonso later explained, “just showing that, listen, I am working, I am doing the best I can and I feel bad for not playing (well) — everyone has internal expectations, but for me personally, I pride myself on being as consistent as possible, and I wasn't that. “Especially doing all I did to come back early and do what I could to help, and I just failed. I was healthy. I was just failing way more than I was helping the team.” FWIW - the Athletic had a piece on Pham a couple few weeks ago and they interviewed a ton of players, coaches and managers and they all loved the shit out him. I can absolutely see how he could rub some people the wrong way after 7 months or so, but most loved his thoroughness when getting ready for a game and his unparalleled intensity (or never-ending red-assery if you don't like him). Edit: here's that Pham piece --> https://theathletic.com/4840461/2023/09/07/diamondbacks-tommy-pham-mlb/https://theathletic.com/4840461/2023/09/07/diamondbacks-tommy-pham-mlb/
19. Including both ends of a doubleheader, wow. You'll get a day off when there's a day off in the schedule, son. Now start warming up.
20. This was released today. A note from Josh: "Hey everyone! Just a note to introduce our cover of Cyndi Lauper's “Good Enough!” Like many, I grew up to The Goonies. As a Northwest misfit myself, desperately hoping to find buried treasure and fight pirate ghosts, it was right up my alley. Every time I watched, the song, “The Goonies ‘R' Good Enough” stole my heart away every time that it came on. I just wanted to play that song so bad. Thanks to Sam Kassirer and the whole band, my dream has come true! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!" Those are exactly the vibes I got listening. Not a great cover or anything, he just really, really wanted to play it.
21. Some people think of Sex and the City when they think of Kim Cattrall. The real ones think of Mannequin.
22. I went to see Goonies with a friend who's a little younger than me but had never seen it, and it meant slightly more than nothing to him. I didn't try to convince him it was great and he didn't try to convince me it wasn't, so I guess we'd both be terrible at twitter. I had no idea Hocus Pocus was a huge as it is. I checked out that article you mentioned and it didn't make me want to fork over $3 to see it for the first time. I absolutely hold Goonies and Sandlot in higher regard than the other films you mentioned. Dirty Dancing has a heavy nostalgic chokehold on Gen X'ers, though. Gonna go let lost in Letterboxd reviews of DD for the next half hour and take the temp of that movie in 2023. Edit: LOTS of 4 and 5 star reviews for DD. The people love it.
23. I got one anyway. [FIMG=550]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/09/img_4355.jpeg[/FIMG]
