  1. That was a dark, kinda fucked up movie. I'm supposing his parents divorce is what made the kid so angry, but he was scary angry, so I wondered if there was more there. The monsters, how they each seemed to represent a little of Max, was really well done.
  2. A family movie by David Lynch makes me wanna have a kid. I'm going to see it as soon as the crowds thin a little.
  3. Anyone seen it yet? I really want to.
  4. Stars Ellen Page (Juno) as a Texas high school beauty pageant contestant who trades her purty pageant gowns for the cool and excitement offered by the world of roller derby. Marcia Gay Harden plays the conservative, pageant-veteran mom that Page is rebelling against. Daniel Stern plays her understanding, beer-drinking, football-loving pappy. Drew Barrymore directs and plays one of the roller derby girls. Also in the flick are "Maeby" from Arrested Development, the adorable Kristen Wiig from SNL, Juliette Lewis, Eve, and Jimmy Fallon as the roller derby PBP guy. I dug it. Trailer:
  5. I think two movies got mashed up in this thread.
  6. You can nuke mine.
  7. I thought I created a thread for this flick a while back, too. Admins, we might need a new sub-forum.
  8. Documentary by the stoner chick from "Knocked Up" about how she doesn't believe in love. Until she falls in love with George Michael. I loved it.
  9. Peeps at work are talking about it. I wanna have a look. Not sure why the alien's face is blurred out in the trailer, but I saw it somewhere else and it looked really cool. Peter Jackson (LoTR) is behind it all.
  10. Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl, um, doesn't. The lovely Zooey Deschanel stars with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this comedy about a one-way love story. Cool music. The movie has its moments.
  11. What an odd name. Good luck, Cam.
  12. Edgy DC wrote: How indy can it be when it stars two folks from major tv shows? Dunno if it is, or it isn't. Focus Films (owned by NBC?) put it out. I do remember the music by Alexi Murdoch and really really dug it. it's soothing and sleep-inducing music.
  13. metirish wrote: She has you worn out , she's riding you like Jerry is riding David . I'm not a young man anymore. And she is, um, young.
  14. I fell asleep. The girl liked it, though.
  15. We got tix to see it tonight. Stars that dude from "The Office" and that chick from SNL and has some bigger names in the lineup, too. Sure to be the indie hipster darling film of 2009. Anyone seen it? From IMDB: A couple who is expecting their first child travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover "home" on their own terms for the first time. Trailer:
  16. I think you're right, sir.
  17. I just took like 50 VHS tapes to the Goodwill yesterday. Amongst the movies, I found 5 tapes that made up the 2000 WS, another with the Grand Slam Single game, and the last one was the original Jackie Robinson game @ Shea in like '98 or whenever. I popped in Game 1 of the WS for some reason and my VCR immediately ate it and I threw them all out. Never saw Donnie Brasco.
  18. Neglect. I think he's just acting out, 3D. Take him for a cotton candy or something.
  19. Sounds fun. I've always wanted to try an auction. Ron Shandler's "Baseball Forecaster" talks about roto drafts, and they have a section on strategy with a cheat sheet w/ suggested values in the back. The LIMA Plan (Low Investment Mound Aces) is the first and most widely used, where they advocate spending no more than $60 of your $260 (or, like 1/4 of your budget) on starters (EDIT: meant pitching, not just starters), and half that on saves. There's a few other strategies, too, probably all of 'em a little flawed, but fun to read. At the very beginning of the book, he says not to get married to any of the values, though, because they'll change depending on how your draft is shaking out, depth of position, specific owner needs, and even locale (Mets/Yanks tend to be overvalued in NY, Dodgers/Angels at a draft in LA, etc.). He says what he does is try to group guys by position in $5 increments that he thinks of as "interchangeable", it helps him stay on budget while filling his team out. He notes the purchase price for every player as they're drafted and compares w/ his chart to see if players are going over or under value. He says paying attention to your opponents drafting and bidding tendencies as they develop, is as important as anything. Anyway, have fun and report back. Thumb through the book if you see it at a shop, too. This is my third year in a row getting it.
  20. I can't keep up with the daily stuff or I would. Have fun, boys.
  21. I'd keep Youk over Atkins. Pretty similar dudes, but I'd think Youk would be a slight better play, given your stats, particularly walks. Shandler's Baseball Forecaster likes both to regress, but more so Atkins, citing his declining walk rate, contact %, and his expected power based on their formula. Good luck, man. Sounds like a cool league.
  22. Splitsville.
  23. Meh. Expectations got the best of me for this one.
  24. I didn't like this movie a lot.
