  1. Watching the Gelbs-Shamsky interview and Gelbs says "Kranepool was an original Met". Are we now considering all the '62 Mets as original, even if they weren't on the Opening Day roster?
  2. ...that waiting hands on eyes, Veronica has gone to hide?
  3. It's kind of a given at this point that Lindor sucks in April. No reason why it should happen, and I personally still believe that it's just a statistical anomaly, but I think Mets fans as a whole have become conditioned to expect rain and Lindor slumps in April.
  4. "Brazoban coming on for the save opportunity" are seven words you don't hear together very often.
  5. I'm not missing Francisco Alvarez very much at all.
  6. The Hot Corner wrote: You need an eye exam and new glasses? Impressive marketing!
  7. Ray Sadecki started, relieved, hit well for a pitcher, and came back to do it again. OE - he only came back for three innings in 1977. For some reason, I thought he stayed a full season when he came back. Kid memory plays tricks on you.
  8. James McCann, more like James TomatoCann. That guy sucks and it's been Met-documented The shocker is that is occupation is still "major league baseball player". Get yourself a reputation as a good defensive catcher and you'll always have a job. I'm guessing Henry Blanco is still on a 40-man roster somewhere I don't think about much, like Seattle.
  9. The Dark Horse Met to end all Dark Horse Mets, at least among position players. I don't think anyone will ever top R. A. Dickey.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Mazzilli returned to the Mets during the 1986 season and won a ring that year. That was my point...
  11. I remember Lee Mazzilli, and I remember he was traded to Texas after not becoming the superstar he was supposed to become, and I remember that turned out to be a pretty good deal. He was such a big part of those bad late 70s teams, though. It's too bad he never played for us again, particularly during that period from 1986 through 1988 when the Mets were really good.
  12. Ken Boyer's #14, Cardinals. Oops, I see Gwreck beat me to that punch. He's not on the list, but I believe the Padres retired Randy Jones's number in one of the sillier retired number decisions made by a team with few major stars.
  13. Someone is not happy that this thread has gone this long without mentioning him. And he's got a bat, even though he doesn't use it particularly well. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS6lRij7JxPc7RpHJdQi5iYcabrJ7Ef4vSa-Q&s>
  14. Daily Walkoff ⚾️ Mets #153 🟡🟢🟢🟡 🟢🟢🟢🟢🚀 I have no memory of Butch Huskey playing anywhere but 3B.
  15. "But the Mets, who have had experience with the authorities in Florida..." I assume that's an oblique reference to the Cleon Jones arrest, which happened two years before in St. Petersburg.
  16. Frank Lane : Rocky Colavito :: M. Donald Grant : Tom Seaver RIP
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He was GM from October of 2003 until he was replace by Omar Minaya twelve months later. Omar certainly made some big impactful deals, bringing in (off the top of my head) Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Delgado, Moises Alou, Johan Santana, and others. Omar made brilliant trades and signed dumb contracts, which was probably why he was such a success with a team where he couldn't sign big contracts. The trades that brought in Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez were inspired. Particularly the Perez trade. The Duaner Sanchez freak accident had left the team desperate, and Omar managed to turn Xavier Nady, who didn't do much for the Mets and did even less after, into Perez and Roberto Hernandez. They were both key contributors in 2006. Signing Perez and Castillo to big contracts after the season was, of course, less inspired.
  18. His teammates nicknamed him "The Fidrych".
  19. There's a big lead so it probably doesn't matter, but why put in a pinch runner for a runner on 3rd and none out? You burn two players, and even a slow runner on 3rd with none out is likely to score.
  20. Nobody has played a regular season baseball game at Olympic Stadium since 2005, and it's still sitting there empty.
  21. No love for 1973? I would have done Matlack to Millan for Game 3 and saved Strawberry - Gooden for a potential World Series game.
  22. My cloudy memory of 2006 was that we managed to win some games in the postseason mainly because of Tom Glavine and pieces of duct tape shaped like Oliver Perez, John Maine, and Darren Oliver, and that even getting to the point where Wainwright could freeze Beltran with an unhittable curve was something of a miracle. Glavine did, of course, shit the bed in a very memorable way in the last regular season game of 2007.
  23. In Astoria this weekend seeing the girlfriend and having a business dinner tomorrow. The Ochos (myself, GF, son of GF, and maybe daughter-in-law of GF) will likely be watching from [CROSSOUT]Murphy's at 23rd Ave and 45th Street. Son of GF knows the owner, and I understand it's a great place to watch a game[/CROSSOUT] Bohemian Beer Garden at 24th Ave & 31st St. Glad to see any CPFers who want to drop in.
