  1. Cute pun in this morning's Athletic story. Tim Britton wrote: The lesson? Never doubt a Plummer in Flushing.
  2. =kcmets post_id=94021 time=1653880283 user_id=53] I really dislike this runner-on-second nonsense.
  3. =bmfc1 post_id=93863 time=1653785100 user_id=73] I might be overstating this but in previous years when Jeff took two pitches that he thought were outside of the strike zone but called a strike, he would have mentally checked out of the AB. Not so, this year.
  4. wow...I realize people love Luis G, but he has no business batting leadoff...He's scored less than 26% of the time that he's gotten to first base on his career... That's because he usually bats 7th or 8th. Leadoff batters maybe have a little bit more baserunning skill than most, but mostly they're helped by having good hitters behind them. Guillorme isn't fast, but he's smart. It's not an awful choice. That being said, I would have put McNeil in that spot. Bracing myself for hearing "Guillermo" all night from the jamokes in the booth. It's already started.
  5. Williams doing his part to keep it close.
  6. I generally pay no attention to All-Star balloting, but at what point does he become a legit candidate in the same way that Martin Prado was for the Braves a few years ago?
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I think I read somewhere that no Mets club with an 8 game lead has ever not held it at the end, though I could definitely be wrong and I haven't bothered to check Ed of Studious Metsimus posted that and I'll take his word for it.
  8. You could probably just compare April stats to August stats and get a good proxy. You'd have other early season vs late season issues as confounding factors, but you'd have that even if you found pure weather based stats, since bad weather is going to be correlated with the early part of the season. This could go in its own thread; don't want to hijack Edgy's maps.
  9. Mediocre band promotes mediocre actor and mediocre restaurant in mediocre commercial. https://www.ispot.tv/ad/blDN/applebees-top-gun-maverick-song-by-aerosmithhttps://www.ispot.tv/ad/blDN/applebees-top-gun-maverick-song-by-aerosmith
  10. This is still the best team since 2015. I have more cahnfidence in this quick start than those from past seasons. We've beaten some good teams and Showalter is proving he's a great manager. There haven't been many mental mistakes this year, the weak ABs from Marte and Alonso yesterday notwithstanding. Sucks to lose McCann. Weak as he's been hitting, he's the one player for whom we don't have a good everyday sub. I'm not all that comfortable with either Mazeika or Nido in the regular lineup. I think we'd be selling low on Smith. I'd rather see how our depth starters work out. I'm not worrying, yet. I wasn't much of a believer early on, as I figured we were getting Meh Max Scherzer in the same way we got Meh Tom Glavine, and I didn't see the FA pickups as difference makers. But Scherzer is still Scherzer and Canha has been solid. If this is the team at its worst, I'll take it.
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: * Walking Lindor -- sets up both the force all around and the Righty/Righty matchup for the slider pitcher ... but is that worth bringing the game-tying BB into play? I could make arguments either way. Don't know what Castillo's BB tendencies are. I thought this move was madness on Servais's part. I haven't checked the stats, but my eyeballs tell me that Pete has really improved his bat to ball skills this season. But even the best hitters fail seven times out of ten yadda yadda yadda.
  12. One more American band I'd rather listen to than Aerosmith is Little Feat. Just saying.
  13. I shut the game off in the eighth and was getting ready to call it an early night and I figured I'd check the score to be sure the game was over. Holy crap.
  14. I'd put Steely Dan on the American Bands Better than Aerosmith list, if you consider Walter Becker, Donald Fagin, and various sidemen a band. I remember The Old Mole had a long Facebook discussion on best American bands. REM got a lot of love, though not exactly classic rawk.
  15. They go right here, I think. Of course you cut Cano. Nobody ever thought he was worth the money; eating the bad contract was a requirement to get Diaz and his ridiculously good contract. And putting aside the question as to whether a player who was twice busted for cheating is the person you want in the "good clubhouse guy" role, the fact that his prior OK-ness was likely steroid-fueled means his days of being better than replacement value are probably long gone.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: No, it's the force play factor. Like we were discussing the other day, these probabilities are generic so the situation is factored in but not specifically Goldschmidt and his Goldschmidtedness. It's just Joe Batter up there as far as the odds are concerned. That's why the baseball gods invented the intentional walk. Buck should have just held up 4 fingers there. Even more so because it was one of the best hitters in the game at bat.
  17. Mets' worst starter is throwing a pretty good game so far.
  18. =bmfc1 post_id=89602 time=1650223287 user_id=73] My brother lives in the NYC area but he can't watch today's game because FUBO doesn't carry WPIX and mlb.tv is blacked-out for him.
  19. And, whoa. He definitely looked out to me watching it on GameDay.
  20. I think the generally accepted TLA for Chicago's AL team is CWS, even if it doesn't fit the pattern.
  21. 2-1 count, scared rookie, Pete at bat. I think we all saw that coming.
