  1. Best line I've heard this week: DeGrom is so good he even keeps the Mets from scoring!
  2. I'm watching on GameDay, and Pete definitely looked safe to me.
  3. Jonathan Gregory Davis, but JG Davis doesn't sound as cool. Never seemed as bad in the field as his rep. Ran into bad luck with injuries, and then seemed to hit the ball well this year without success. I werry this is going to haunt us the way DFAing Justin Turner did.

  5. Edgy MD wrote: Brandon Nimmo swinging at the first pitch is almost never good Brandon Nimmo. This year Nimmo is 41% better than the league on the first pitch, and 81% better than his season line. In PA when he SWINGS at the first pitch, he's 10% better than average, when he doesn't, he's 7% worse than average. Nimmo is 65% better than his career line on the first pitch. The 'if he swung or if he took' splits are basically neutral over a career Largely because he seldom swings at first pitches, I'm guessing.
  6. I know, and I know the $4K was an exaggeration for a walkup studio (but not by that much). I did find it a little funny that the writer, with a chance to list three great things about living in Manhattan, picked pharmacies as #2. I think it was the writer who said that, not Canha himself. And I was really just talking about Manhattan, and particularly Manhattan below 110th St., not the five boroughs as a whole. With my girlfriend now in Astoria, I get back probably about ten times a year, and I'm glad I do. And, yay Canha for choosing the city over the burbs and taking the 7 train to work.
  7. Seriously? We couldn't go with "Mets Make Acuna Trade" as the subject? Goodness, we're getting soft. I was expecting "Deadline Diehl" when I checked the board.
  8. The best record would still get home field advantage in the LCS, so that's something.
  9. You can get any kind of food delivered to your door at about any time of day, there is a pharmacy on every block and, hey, the kids' favorite Central Park playground is just a walk away. This is why the attraction of living in Manhattan was always lost on me, even when I lived in the NYC area. "Sure, maybe $4000 a month is a little high for a 500 square foot fourth floor walkup, but look! Right over there at the corner of 66th and Amsterdam! IT'S YOUR VERY OWN DUANE FREAKIN' READE!!!"
  10. Backup catchers are a bit pudgy almost by definition, but I remember Rod Barajas as being gutsier than most.
  11. Runner on first, none out. They've got us where they want us.
  12. Not a bad attempt by Lindor. Sometimes, the other guys execute.
  13. JD Davis and Adam Ottavino, professionals.
  14. Really needed a Strider vs Walker matchup this series.
  15. Bench famously beat out Kooz by one vote in '68. I have the odd random fact in my brain that Jim Lefebvre was a ROY, and I think he did it as a Red. (after checking...he was indeed an ROY who spent his entire career as a Dodger)
  16. Nimmo and Marte both had to slow their roll a bit to not pass Nido.
  17. Chad ochoseis wrote: Rich Puig No. Although strangely, when my oldest child was born the other expectant father in the maternity ward with me was named "Rich Puig" and he looked at me like I'd completely lost my mind when (naturally) i asked him if he used to play for the Mets. Apparently, he'd never heard of the famous ball-playing Rich Puig. Went down a Rich Puig rabbit hole after this guess and apparently The Other Rich Puig posted a comment on UMDB. Someone also confirmed that "Puig" rhymes with "Twig". And his brief stay with the big club was in '74, not '73 as I'd thought.
  18. Which was weird--this was a very famous Metly team Ya gotta believe it's '73. Or perhaps '69.
  19. I will answer yes-or-no questions Was he an infielder?
  20. Live by the throwing arm, die by the throwing arm, Renfroe.
  21. Speaking of nutshells, there's a Brewer outfielder who could've used one.
  22. Just saying, but Lindor has stunk up the joint since he fractured his finger...below .200 BA for June with an OPS to match. Might it be time to give him some time on the IL to heal? I could live with Guillorme at short every day for the next week and a half if we get Good Francisco back in July.
  23. Buck didn't look thrilled that Nimmo went for three in that situation.
