  1. My adopted Met farmhand who made it to the big time. Probably five years ago when I was in Akron watching the B-Mets and the Ducks and explaining how to pronounce his name to the fans around me.
  2. Interesting. But even if Ohtani stays in the lineup, the reliever is in the batting order, correct?
  3. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=85737 time=1644533310 user_id=119] Loving calling the runner the Manfred Mann!
  4. I'm too lazy to consult a box score, but I don't think he hits on the days he pitches. I think the rule is that once he leaves the game, the relievers would also have to hit (or be PHed for). I've been resigned to this inevitability for a while. Probably good for the Mets who, if their players can play to their career numbers and not their 2021 numbers, have more good hitters than places to put them. And I'm glad that after 50 years the AL and NL play by the same rules again. Now get rid of the Manfred Man in extra innings, OK?
  5. Columbus
  6. Zac Greinke
  7. Seriously? Nolan Ryan never won even once? I think Hideo Nomo did.
  8. Nolan Ryan
  9. How did we get so deep into this thread without Dwight Freaking Gooden? (OE...if I'd just shut up and typed, BG wouldn't have beaten me to the punch)
  10. Is he the first pitcher to become a Met after no-hitting the Mets? I think so.
  11. And for my next 1st round guess, I'll stay with Bob Ojeda.

[th]Bonus Question for Chad ochoseis[/th]How many players who won a championship for the Red Sox would also play for the Mets, if only briefly?Incorrect Answers to This Question So Far: Four (too low, by Ben Grimm)Available Broken-Open Questions That Your are Additionally Invited to Answer [*]Which two Mets were drafted in the first round twice? 6 Keef & Bob Ojeda [*]Incorrect answers thus far: [*]Ron Darling (guessed by metsmarathon) [*]John Olerud (guessed by centerfield) [*]Paul Wilson (guessed by centerfield) [*]Preston Wilson (guessed by metsmarathon)
  13. I'm the first voter? I went with McRedass. Baez is worth more to a team that needs a shortstop. Cano is cooked. Lindor and McNeil are going to have to learn to play nice on the diamond, and the Mets will bet on Jeffy Mac getting his .300 swing back.
  14. Cool. Robin Ventura
  15. Edgy MD wrote: This is a solid guess, as the 1988 first round gave us the likes of Robin Ventura and Brian Jordan, along with the usual share of also-rans, averaging 8.86 bWAR per pick, but the first round we're looking for came in an earlier year than that. A devious person would just guess the heretofore unguessed Robin Ventura as a Metly first rounder and grab an easy five points, but we're not that devious, right? I propose that we remove Robin Ventura from the first round board.

  17. According to the Fielding Bible our best defensive player was Thomas Nido, followed by Taijuan Walker. There are a few surprises on the list regarding how people rated.http://fieldingbible.com/TeamFieldershttp://fieldingbible.com/TeamFielders BRANDON NIMMO, GOLD GLOVER! One day when I'm bored, I'll give these metrics a good look. But based on the eyeball test, I always thought Nimmo was a better CF than his corner-outfielder-out-of-his-depth rep. So I'm glad the Fielding Bible gives him some love.
  18. Steve Henderson. I think Mets brass billed him as a superstar, though that may have been just to keep away pitchfork-and-torch wielding Seaver fans.
  19. Robbie Alomar seems like the type that would go in the first round. Speed, ballplayer look, baseball family. I'll go with him as my next 1st round guess.
  20. Your bonus question: Which first round, before 2017, produced the lowest average career bWAR among all draftees? 1974.
  21. First bonus question:. Beats me. 1994? Second bonus question: it's rather shocking how few first ladies I can think of. I need to shore up my first lady knowledge, as well as my Francophone city knowledge. I'll go early 20th century. Her name is Mrs. Edith Wilson, and she likes Woodrow, bub.
  22. Jeff Conine was a Met for about half an hour, but a racquetball champ for much longer than that. http://lindamojer.com/04web_bkup/racqmag/1999/9906/996feat.htmhttp://lindamojer.com/04web_bkup/racqmag/1999/9906/996feat.htm
  23. Whoa...more than 9 ROYs. And I deliberately guessed on the high side. I have no clue on the bWAR question. I'll go with the late 80s on the basis that draft analytics were still only half baked then, if baked at all, and statistics for players who were in their prime in the 90s were skewed by steroids. Call it 1987.
  24. I'm going to pass on the Francophone question and request another. I looked up the answer after missing it the first time. ROYs? Quite a few, I think. So many guys just passed through that I think we're ROYs at some point. I'll go with 9. And now that we're active again, I think Gary Gentry was on his way to greatness before he ran into arm trouble. What might have been if Dr. Frank Jobe had thought about harvesting tendons a few years sooner than he did? We might be talking about GG surgery and not TJ surgery. Anyway, Gary's my guess as another first round pick.
