  1. Only 75, huh? Seriously, I'm not getting any. Maybe they're trolling the NYC area as revenge for the ALDS.
  2. Steven Kwan showed up to work at my neighborhood ice cream shop last night. If anyone needs a favorite AL team, I highly recommend the Guardians. https://www.google.com/amp/s/fox8.com/news/super-humbling-guardians-steven-kwan-serves-up-scoops-at-local-ice-cream-shop/amp/https://www.google.com/amp/s/fox8.com/news/super-humbling-guardians-steven-kwan-serves-up-scoops-at-local-ice-cream-shop/amp/
  3. Well, that sucked.
  4. I don't have cable, so I can't watch the postseason from home. The bar I picked to watch the game from tonight closes in half an hour. Fortunately, by city ordinance, they don't roll in the streets till midnight on game nights.
  5. Not for nothing, but Gerrit Cole is possibly the douchiest looking ballplayer I've ever seen not named Bryce Harper. Oh, and either a double or a single + E-8 for Andres Giménez!
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm very disappointed that Cleveland CF Miles Straw isn't from Wichita like his brother Jack. I've always thought that should be his walk-up song. I get that earworm whenever I watch a Guardians game.
  7. Fun fact: "Sponge Bob Square Pants" has become the Guardians' version of "Narco". It's the walkup music for Oscar Gonzalez, one of the many rookies who came out of nowhere to put up decent numbers for the team this year. He hit the 15th inning walk-off home run to knock off the Rays and the two-run walk-off single up the middle last night.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: You're right about Ys, though — particularly partially extraneous ones. Bryce Harper, please step forward. He did, but you can't see him behind Rhys Hoskins.
  9. And Oscar Gonzalez does it again! Guardians win 6-5.
  10. Old friend Amed Rosario is up as the winning run in the bottom of the 9th, Yankees up 5-3. And he drives in a run! 5-4, 1st and 2nd, 1 out. I'm watching on aTV monitor outside the ballpark.
  11. Their all-time home run leader? The immortal Nate Colbert, whom I've only heard of because I remember him from my 1970 season Sports Illustrated Baseball game and because Jim Bouton called him ugly in "Ball Four".
  12. Meanwhile, Marlins up 10-8 in what looks like a barnburner in Miami based solely on scoreboard. Second and third and 2 out for the Braves, so they might have tied it by the time I hit submit.
  13. Wonder if they're throwing him meatballs. It's been known to happen in meaningless games.
  14. Rain now coming down for reals here on 21st St. I think we're headed for a 161 game season.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Rain delay. They should just skip it. Or make it up in December in Florida. I'm sitting in a coffee shop in Astoria and it's barely drizzling, so it looks like they're looking for an excuse to do just that. I'd kind of like to see the Mets finish with the same record as the Braves, but I'd like to see them get some rest even more. And why make the Nats endure any more of this season than they already have?
  16. Yeah, I didn't even rant about the fact that we actually threw in extra prospects to sweeten the deal.
  17. Just wanted to comment on how much this angle, which I've been hearing constantly, pisses me off. - The Mets actually played pretty well past the trade deadline. The Braves just went on a major tear. For all the nonsense about the sweep, in the end we pretty much split the season series and may well wind up just a half game out in the standings, assuming today's game is rained out and not made up. Otherwise, we conceivably still could have lost out by dint of having the exact same record and losing a tiebreaker 10-9. It's not possible to get any closer than that. - I submit that the Mets panicked and tried to do too much. JD Davis was underperforming, but in no world would any reasonable person have expected Darin Ruf to be an improvement. There are trades that make sense on paper and don't work out; that stuff happens. But trading a comparatively young, average, right-handed hitter with a below average but adequate glove for an old, below average, right-handed hitter who is unable to play the field at all was stupid from the start. We played the stupid game and won the stupid prize. Never mind the tear JD went on after he was traded. If he'd just stayed JD and we didn't make the trade just to "do something!!!", we'd be looking at a week off right now. Doing something just for the sake of doing something is dumb.
  18. =roger_that post_id=109677 time=1664761549 user_id=128] Can someone remind me which genius decided that Travis d'Arnaud was a turd that must be scraped off the Mets' shoe? I'm kinda missing him behind the plate about now.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Well, hmm ... . That was ... an at-bat. This is an at-bat.
  20. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=109199 time=1664560753 user_id=68] Read this piece of horseshit: (Even money the writer was too young to even see Carter play with the Mets).
  21. 8 always makes me think catcher, maybe because an 8 looks like a guy squatting behind home plate. Or a snowman. But 8 is probably in permanent limbo.
  22. Smith has reverse splits and may have been a better option as a DH against lefties than either Ruf or Vientos, and he's not a complete disaster with a glove on his hand.

  24. Esco with the hit of the season right there.
