  1. Meaning Jose Reyes was HBP three times? Should he have gotten out of the way or not? Was he aware that he should have? We need answers dammit.
  2. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Wait, are you suggesting a brilliant/clueless element here? I'm not sure I'd use those words, but if I had to judge by reactions, I think Mookie was conscious of the possibility of the wild pitch...and therefore, recognized it right away when it happened. Piazza looked like he went to the plate intent on driving in the run (was it Mora?) and when he scored on the wild pitch, took a second to register what had happened.
  3. Lost in all this was a possibly great topic raised by Rotblatt. "Don't Stop Believing" has to be the gayest team song ever. "Who let the Dogs Out" might have been the worst, but as far as gay goes, it's hard to get gayer than Journey. (And yes I realize there is a picture of Cher in this very thread, but you get the idea.) Is there a band less likely to record a sports team anthem than Journey? Maybe REO Speedwagon?
  4. As FK mentioned, if you come to bat with the season on the line and the tying run on third, you get out of the way hoping it skips to the backstop. So unless the bases are loaded, what Mookie did was the right move. In any case, I always thought Mookie was aware of the possibility of the wild pitch as he immediately looked back, and then waved in Mitchell. ON EDIT: To illustrate this, I wish we could show clips of Mookie following the Stanley wild pitch, compared to Piazza following the (Brad Clontz?) wild pitch to end the '99 regular season. Mookie saw it right away and waved in Mitchell emphatically....whereas Mikey kinda looked around blankly. It's almost like he didn't figure out what happened until everyone was jumping around.
  5. Uma Oprah. Oprah Uma.
  6. He cried again? He might lead the league in crying over the past season plus.
  7. Mookie played centerfield. 'Nuff said. One of my buddies bought my son a Met bear from Build A Bear Workshop. He came with a #1 jersey. He is, of course, now named Mookie.
  8. Getting back to the original post in this thread, I just heard the clip of ChiSox GM Ken Williams last night. To me, he did a pretty good job of making himself seem selfish and stupid. Wouldn't most clubs want their GM to take the high road on something like that? I've been pretty critical of Omar's trades but I feel lucky we don't have someone like this clown calling the shots.
  9. Koby, how did you learn to hit your father like that? "I grew up watching Mike Piazza."
  10. Saw it last night. I thought it was funny. MUCH better than 40 Year Old Virgin (why everyone was mentioning them in the same breath I'm not sure). Rachel McAdams = Top 5
  11. Between the above post and the new soupcan avatar, RD is tearing things up this spring.
  12. What was amazing was when he re-inserted Cairo into the #2 hole later in the season. You know, I used to be a pretty good bunter. I'd make contact almost every time. And most of those times, I'd get the runner over. Productive outs, non-productive outs, making outs was my specialty. I also have pretty good speed and so I'd be hard to double up. Clearly I should bat #2 in the lineup.
  13. MFS62, That is a fantastic story.
  14. Tony Avella from Bayside was a big help. My councilwoman Margarita Lopez, did dick. http://www.margaritalopez.com/ She is now running for Borough President. Make sure you don't vote for her.
  15. For what it's worth, Chicago beat-writers have said for years that the smiley persona was all an act and that Sosa was one of the biggest frauds out there. (Grain of salt recommended). What I will most remember about Sosa is that he and McGwire gave us one of the most awkward and random sports hugs in history. You'll recall that after McGwire broke Maris's record, Sosa came running in from the outfield, and hugged McGwire awkwardly, and then each of them ran their HR rituals. It was one of the stranger events I can remember. These guys hadn't won anything, it was the middle of the game, and they were, in fact, seeking to set the same record.
  16. Spinning off edgy's post in the Sammy Sosa thread. The All-Dodged Bullet Met team are those players we nearly acquired and are thankful that the deals never materialized. 1. 2. 3. 4. Sammy Sosa - RF 5. 6. 7. 8. Norihiro Nakamura - 3B P: RP: Bench:
  17. I thought he retired last year.
  18. Guillen: A-Rod is a hypocrite. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2332682
  19. If the pain comes from him dragging that toe, I don't see how a shoe will alleviate it.
  20. Oops. Didn't even see the Mutts characters when I posted.
  21. Without taking sides, I just wanted to point out that KC is a really, really big guy. May I suggest a new strategy? Let the wookie win... And to be clear, I'm not calling KC a wookie. Because KC is a really, really big guy.
  22. Perhaps I'm too cynical...the $1,000.00 (kids never have $1,000.00, they have $827.42, they have $924.86, they NEVER have $1,000.00)...the way it conveniently found it's way to Steinbrenner's desk...if I had to guess, I would say it's more likely a publicity stunt than it is a feel-good story. And for the record, 83 is right. You can always hate the MFY's.
  23. Ok...how does a 13 year old save $1,000? When I was thirteen I think the highest total I ever reached might have been, oh, $30 or so. Did newscarriers get a huge bump in pay? Has the going rate on lawn mowing/leave-raking spiked? What gives?
  24. Awesome.
