  1. I don't see Milwaukee slowing down, but it would be cool to win the last 6.
  2. I saw that first card and wondered how David Wright managed to win POTM.
  3. Granderson led off this inning. He is left handed. Luis Avilan throws with his left hand. Season is hanging by a thread and we end up with Walter Fucking Lockett. This is on Mickey and Brodie.
  4. Of course Frazier get his hit now.
  5. One Batter Too Long. This will be the title of Mickey's biography.
  6. This team looks like toast. Maybe they have one last run in them but it doesn't look like it.
  7. If there is a silver lining to missing the playoffs, it will be that hopefully we never have to see Mickey Callaway again. And I thought WWSB was bad.
  8. There are so many if you start doing that. *The Washington meltdown game *What if Pete doesn't throw away that ball in the Sunday game of that Nats series *What if Pete doesn't argue with the umpires and that Cardinals game becomes a rain-shortened win instead of a Diaz blown save *What if we could have just gotten a sac fly during that extra-inning game Friday night game against Atlanta *The Diaz meltdown in LA *If only Matz could have retired the pitcher on Monday *Getting swept by the Marlins. WTF *Losing 3 of 4 to the Giants *If we had a healthy McNeil for the Braves-Cubs series *If Nimmo had been diagnosed properly back in April *If Duaner Sanchez doesn't get hungry for tacos
  9. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: So what are the Alonso like irl? I'm afraid they're like, big Trump guys Humble. Gracious. Friendly. Everything you'd expect them to be. After our initial greetings we left them alone figuring they want to enjoy the game but they kept striking up conversation with us. Talked to my son when he saw he was keeping score. Asked if he played. Let that sink in. I'm talking to Pete Alonso's dad and he's asking about my son's baseball team. His mother was sweet and handed out orange pom poms. We all went ga ga over the baby sitting one row in front of us. With the exception of the play on the field we had the time of our lives.

  11. It's probably academic anyway. Milwaukee shows no sign of losing any time soon.
  12. At this game. Hanging out with Alonso parents. No joke.
  13. Base hit! 2-1 Cards. We may now resume our hate of YFM.
  14. Down 1-0 to the Cubs, the Cards load the bases with no one out top 6. Yadier F. Molina up.
  15. Brewers up 3-1 on the Padres. I think the entire 2015 KC team is playing in this game. I hate it already.
  16. If that last Atlanta series means anything, it will have meant a lot of things went right. But if we get there, I don't see Atlanta laying down. Assholes.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Strangely, the first 49 in my head isn't Armando, but Kevin Kobel. If compensation was based on what you remember from when you were 12 or 13, I'd have an awful lot of money. The great majority of "I associate that number this this player..." are from the 80's Mets. Basically, the first time I saw them. 1. Mookie 2. Bobby Valentine 3. Rafael Santana 4. Dykstra 5. Wright 6. Backman 7. Jose Reyes 8. Carter 9. Hundley 10. Rusty 11. Teufel 12. Darling 13. Alfonzo 14. Hodges 15. Beltran 16. Doc 17. Keith 18. Darryl 19. Ojeda 20. Hojo 13 out of 20 from the '80's. And 14 wasn't eligible, so really it's 13 out of 19.
  18. But ultimately, Mike Yazstrzemski Jr. turned his father's story from a tragic one to a triumphant one. If a guy was given the choice of making it to the big leagues, or having his son make it to the big leagues, I don't know many that would pick the first. I'm sure Mike Sr. felt the same way.
  19. I didn't realize that Yaz's son (and Mike's father) had passed away from a heart attack. Reading that story and watching this did not make me cry at all.
  20. Wait, am I reading that right? Did we have the lowest team record for HR's among all major league teams? Never realized we were that bad.
  21. This game had bad loss written all over it. It will still take a small miracle to catch the Cubs/Brewers, but the requisite miracle is a little smaller today. Yay Mets!
  22. I'm with NYMR on this. Skipping a starter means you also have one more competent arm in the bullpen.
  23. What Greg said. It's not MLB won't let them pay tribute. It's that they took affirmative measures to make it stop. They instituted fines starting in 2008 despite the world not ending during the yearly tributes. In 2011 when the Mets players wanted to wear the caps. The fines were prohibitive. When Wright showed up in the dugout wearing one, MLB physically took them from the Mets. https://deadspin.com/mlb-physically-took-fdny-and-nypd-caps-from-the-mets-to-5839331https://deadspin.com/mlb-physically-took-fdny-and-nypd-caps-from-the-mets-to-5839331 And the real shame here is that no one cares about uniformity. Absolutely fucking no one. It's about licensing. MLB and New Era want the money. Plain and simple. They don't make money off of First Responder hats.
  24. Joe Torre, traitor to NYC: https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/joe-torre-explains-why-mlb-wont-let-mets-wear-first-responder-hats-on-911/310758556https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/joe-torre-explains-why-mlb-wont-let-mets-wear-first-responder-hats-on-911/310758556 Everyone needs to make a huge deal out of this.
  25. This team fought hard for a long time with no safety net. At the end of the day, these other teams are just better. Great individual efforts all around...and a lot of great pieces to build around going forward. It's just a matter of whether they will do it or not. (They won't)
