  1. For what it's worth, that's a good apology. Certainly better than the bullshit "I'm sorry if anyone was offended" bullshit.
  2. Now that Girardi has taken the Phillies job, expect the Mets to wrap this up with one of the first-time candidates pretty quickly. *We felt Joe Girardi was a great option, but we wanted to be thorough, and when we were ready to make a decision, Joe was no longer available. We wish him the best in Philadelphia. *In the end, it didn't make a difference, FIRST TIME MANAGER was our top choice. And we look forward to [CROSSOUT]controlling his every move[/CROSSOUT] seeing what he brings to the table.

  4. I doubt GKR lets them off the hook. Especially Keith. National broadcasts. What are you going to do? And yea, absolutely should have been running, and he likely would have made it to third. He side skipped the entire way to first and made second without a throw.

  6. Inspired by Lunchbucket's post in the other thread. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Bogar played mainly during my "Wilderness Years" when I was out of state, no games on TV, fresh off "Worst Team" era, and the strike that led to an additional year of pay-no-mind-to-baseball. Basically I missed almost the entire Dallas Green Era, returning only in time to see it end. It's funny. We're not quite the same age, but those were exactly my wilderness years as well. 1994 was the summer after my freshman year of college, and I was living in Ithaca with a bunch of guys, no TV, and waiting tables every night. I must have watched less than 15 games total from 1994 through 1996. I started following them again in late 1997, but was fully back in by '98. In HS, I used to watch all sports, but the Mets are the only pro sports team I picked back up. And Syracuse basketball is the only thing I followed all throughout.
  7. 1996 Tim Bogar. .546 OPS. 0.4 WAR.
  8. I don't know if Jessica Mendoza meets my definition of bombshell. I'd be more inclined to go the route of Charlize Theron or Natalie Dormer. Maybe Naomi Watts, but she's more like girl next door than bombshell.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Wally Backman might be considered a "bombshell". I guess so right? Others that I would consider "bombshell" 1. Bobby Valentine 2. Davey Johnson 3. Lou Piniella 4. David Wright 5. Ted Turner
  10. The saga ends. It's been an uneven ride throughout the 9 movies. I think a lot hinges on how this story ends. Of all the people who have held the reins recently, I think I trust JJ Abrams the most to bring the story home. 11. So I guess the criticism of Girardi was that he was too intense. Maybe for the media and the front office. This blurb from the Times when he was fired: Though Cashman and Girardi have divergent personalities and far different interests, they had generally enjoyed a strong working relationship. “I think he knows that he can speak his mind in a constructive way with me, and I can speak my mind in a constructive way with him,” Cashman said at the start of the 2016 season. “There's an openness that is encouraged here. I acquire the talent, and Joe deploys the talent, and sometimes you'll have disagreements on players' capabilities that I've acquired or strategies that he's employing. “You've got to be able to work through those in a healthy manner to have a successful manager-general-manager relationship, and I'm proud to say we have that,” Cashman added. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/26/sports/baseball/joe-girardi-fired-yankees.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/26/sports/baseball/joe-girardi-fired-yankees.html I'm guessing that someone as intense as Girardi, opinionated and having the track record to back it up, is someone that BroPon will want no part of. I'm guessing they stall until Girardi takes another job, which will give them cover to hire another puppet.
  12. For me, it's pretty simple. [FIMG=450]https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-3kwrgfp6rz/images/stencil/original/uploaded_images/altuve.jpg?t=1535481609[/FIMG] I love the American League team that has beaten the Yankees two of the last three years. Altuve, Correa...cool color scheme. These guys rock. http://baseballhotcorner.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Jeff-Bagwell.jpghttp://baseballhotcorner.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Jeff-Bagwell.jpg> But this team. I didn't really like them. Roided up cheaters. What colors are they even wearing? Navy? Gold? Eh. Not for me. [FIMG=600] https://s.hdnux.com/photos/42/15/32/8967868/37/920x920.jpg[/FIMG] These guys? Man. Fuck these guys.
  13. Murph too, to some extent. Wasn't he the guy when asked what position he plays, he answered "I bat third."
  14. I watched the replay on MLB network last night. That ninth inning was a thing of beauty. I mean, I obviously wouldn't have felt that way had I watched it in real time, but the joy the Yankees felt in the top of the 9th. So much fun. Knowing they would be moping off a few minutes later. And then Chapman gets the first two outs. A seemingly harmless walk to Springer. Brantley had been double-switched out of the game, so you figure that Altuve wouldn't get much to hit. But you know, baseball. Was surprised how quickly Buck was on that call. He knew it was gone even with that high fence out there. Plus he stopped talking immediately after his call and let the scene unfold. I know he gets a lot of grief, and some of it deserved, but that was a nice job.
  15. Thank you for doing the Lord's work Houston. But we need one more favor...
  16. I had no idea that Houston only had three starters. I guess they left Wade Miley off the roster. Just now found out Lance McCullers had Tommy John. And Charlie Morton is no longer on the team. This is how little I pay attention to the American League. Does Nolan Ryan still pitch for them? How about Mike Hampton?
  17. =G-Fafif post_id=24709 time=1571416127 user_id=55] How sad to go out the way he did...in a MFY uniform, that is.
  18. Stay classy Yankee fans. I wonder if they would make taunt an opposing player with cancer. I wouldn't put it past them.
  19. How do you compile that data?
  20. Are you taking suggestions? And I understand that this may make the tallying much harder so feel free to ignore. I think it would be great if we could vote in 2 or 3 covers from the first round. I feel like we lost a lot of great covers that might have advanced far simply because they were in a pool with a popular cover. Or if it's easier, maybe we could do a Wild Card round, where we get the top second place covers and have a Wild Card slot in the second round.
  21. Somewhere, Chris Paddack is really pissed. Amazing work Ben Grimm. Our MVP.
  22. So yeah, this October, I'm rooting for the Washington Nationals and John Bolton. Just like I expected.
  23. Here's the funny thing. We have to start rooting for the Nationals starting tonight. Why? Because the only team in baseball to blow a 3-0 lead is the Yankees. I don't want that to ever change. So Washington has to close it out. If the Astros end up pulling this out, we can hate Washington again. But as of right now, the Cardinals are dead to us.
  24. Wait. Jed Lowrie is on the board? I'm dying to know what he did to warrant a point.
