  1. Maybe after Trea Turner last night, Rosario decided, "I'm going to turn two on every ball, regardless of the number of outs I think have been recorded."
  2. Last night, I said to myself "A win tomorrow and I'll feel better." I do feel better. But not much.
  3. It's funny how the bad losses stick with you more than the great wins. Everyone remembers the JT Snow HR from the 2000 NLDS. Lots of people have forgotten Benny's HR to win it.
  4. Or 58 year old Jesse Orosco. I'm willing to roll the dice.
  5. Top of the lineup. Need to score about 50.
  6. I think I'm still in shock. I wasn't even that mad. Just numb. Staring at the TV. Same, basically. I was legit mad Sunday night (when Familia sucked at CBP) for the first time all season. Earlier losses, given their hopeless context, didn't rile me up in earnest. The losing streak at home last week was more absorbing than angering. This one took me back to a void I last truly experienced 18 Septembers ago. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/09/04/jordan-vu-all-over-again/http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/09/04/jordan-vu-all-over-again/ Remember that like it was yesterday. Thanks for bringing all of that pain back Greg.
  7. It occurs to me, that it doesn't even matter. Even if the Mets were to win 15 in a row, grab the second WC, beat the Nats in the one game play in, the Dodgers, Cardinals and Braves would absolutely murder this bullpen in the post season. It would be an annihilation.
  8. We would have to know when he had sex to accurately gauge. I have this feeling it's my fault. Our vacation ruined them. On Friday, August 23, Jacob deGrom hit a HR to tie the score against the Braves. Then we got into our car and drove to Baltimore. Listened to the game while driving down and was miserable when they lost it. That was the first of 6 losses. They haven't been the same since. I remember thinking to myself as the losses piled up: "This is the anti-Peru."
  9. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: They're going to finish the year a game out of the money, is what they're going to do, and this fucking game will live in infamy This one sticks out. But there are so many. The loss in LA. The three straight losses to Philly capped off by the Segura walkoff. The rain game where Alonso convinced the umps to play and then Diaz blew it. The Diamondbacks game. This is just so bad.
  10. I think I'm still in shock. I wasn't even that mad. Just numb. Staring at the TV. Blowing a 6 run lead in the 9th. I don't even know what to say. Is batmags right? Is it really that infrequent? I feel like I saw something about another team blowing a huge lead in the ninth earlier this year. I really think this is the worst loss I have ever seen. Not in terms of importance/ramifications etc, but in terms of soul crushing. Rally to get huge tack on runs, then boom. Implosion. It also really makes you wonder about Diaz long term. It seems like everyone else has made some adjustments to get by with the new ball. Familia and Diaz haven't, and it looks like they won't be able to.
  11. Probably the third Greatest Win of the Year to date. Not "third-greatest," but the third time we're in Greatest territory. I thought the second game of the doubleheader sweep of the Marlins that pushed them past .500 was the Greatest. Then I thought the Friday night over the Nationals with Conforto and the shirt was the Greatest. Now I believe beating the Indians in the tenth as they did is http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/08/22/love-is-in-the-air/the Greatest...until the next comes along. I think I have to disagree with you there. The Friday night game against the Nationals was the Greatest. And for me, it's not particularly close. The Mets coming home after that great road trip to get themselves back in contention. The Nationals coming to town. That game being the first game against a "good" opponent. If we lose there a lot of the naysayers "you only beat bad teams" who follow with "I toljuso". Down two runs, and then that killer tack on when Turner scored on the wild pitch. Then magic. Just unbelievable. And for me, it was even more special. I listened to that ninth inning in the car with my family. We were coming back from a wake. My friend's father passed after a battle with cancer. We were somber to begin with, then getting into the car and finding that they were losing didn't help. We all groaned when Turner scored. Nearly drove off the road when Frazier hit the 3 run jack. We arrived at our garage before Conforto came to the plate, but everyone knew there was no chance we were going in. We waited on the street outside the garage then when he walked it off. I think the parking attendant has never seen a family so excited to drop off their car. Ran inside and watched the entire ninth inning on DVR. Last night, I was at the game with clients. Two of them are big Mets fans and were into the game, but when we celebrated I found myself wishing I was at home to enjoy it together.
  12. So first off, I love the reaction. Was paying attention, got up, out of the way, grabbed the chair, then turned into a fan. Love it. Secondly, totally agree with the rest of you guys. It wasn't anywhere near gut wrenching disappointment. It was 2-2. We were home, threatening, and we won the game in the end.
  13. Oh yeah, the game. I was there last night, and it was fun. The crowd wasn't nearly as electric as the Nationals series, but not bad for a Wednesday. I have no idea who Plutko was, and his ERA didn't suggest he should be dominating the way he did. I may have muttered Jeff Suppan, something something. And then whoa, here comes Oliver Perez! The HR in the top of the 10th was really deflating. It looked like one of those "juiced ball" swings, that just kept carrying. But as soon as Rosario led off with the double, I knew we were at least going to tie the game. When Ramos reached on an IF single, I knew we were winning.
  14. Vic Sage wrote: I drove back to NY from Ithaca yesterday (dropping off little Vic at college), and its a long-ass drive, so i passed out early last night and didn't see the big finish. I wake up this morning, sad because my little guy is gone, and turn on SNY to see we came back and won. Still sad, but happy, too. Alright, Mets. Damn you. You made a bad day better, so now I guess i have to get back on board and let you break my heart again. LGFM I am dreading the day I have to make that drive. My wife is going to be an absolute wreck and I'm not going to be much better. If it's anything like I remember, your little guy will love Ithaca. 4 of the best years of my life. Is he going to IC or CU?
  15. Terrific game to watch. I love that they had good at-bats even against a quality young pitcher. Such a fun game. Lots of people will see this score and think it was a lopsided game, but how important were: 1. The strike 3 call on Bieber. Could definitely have gone either way. 2. Justin Wilson's 2 strikeouts. Must have balls the size of Saul Katz.
  16. I mean, you don't get a refund when the game ends after 7 due to rain. You're not paying for 9 innings you are paying for a competition. Entertainment. I think a mercy rule goes against the fundamentals of baseball though, the open-ended nature of it. But they've been whittling that away anyway. I don't think Manfred actually likes baseball. That's true, and I thought about that. But A) How often does that happen? I can't remember the last time the Mets had a rain-shortened win. Usually, if that does happen, the stadium is already pretty empty and spectators have chosen to leave. And, C) A smart team would offer fans who stick around a voucher or something. A mercy could happen on a beautiful day with a full stadium. I don't know of too many people who have left a baseball game because of the score. They call mercy games in recreational softball because the organizers have to run though a bunch of games, and one-sided poundings can take forever and screw up the schedule. (My church team is called Know Mercy, in part because it was mercied in every game during the first season!) It's one thing if the weather conditions make it so that baseball can't be played. It's another if the performers themselves decide "that's enough, I'm going home".
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I don't know if it was commented on in this thread, but at one point Gary Apple seemed to be praising Brodie for being canny enough to not include Jeff McNeil in the Cano/Diaz deal. Yes, I'm glad McNeil wasn't included, but I wouldn't be inclined to praise a GM for not making a stupid awful deal more stupid and more awful. 100%. Gary Apple is a shill. Bad one.
  18. =41Forever post_id=19303 time=1566218478 user_id=69] Fans who pay $80 for a ticket and $40 to park should get a full ballgame, Aaron. Unless the fans are getting a partial refund.
  19. But we need one. Where's Ashie?
  20. One curious note. Rosario had 5 hits last night. 3 of those were just out of the reach of Acuna. He missed each of those by a few inches at best. How crazy is baseball.

Breaks my mighty heart It beats getting to told to fuck off, and that I should excommunicate myself from Catholic righty family members because of views that don't fall in complete lock step with an SJW agenda. Well, personally, I would fuck off, but that's me. I failed, most spectacularly in fact, to read a room and got caught up trying to answer one too many loaded questions by trolls, even after I said I was stopping. Fairly certain my righty affiliation is known here? Plus Namor has all that covered in these parts. I understand being conservative or leaning right. Abortion is a very tough issue. I agree immigration laws need to be enforced. And I'm certainly not happy when I pay taxes. But to support this President. Man. I lose you there Steve.
  22. Rogers? A Trump supporter? Say it ain't so Stevie. (dies partially)
