  1. There is no chance Diaz (or anyone else) would be named the closer for 2020 while we are still in 2019. I think eventually, he will get that designation, but not until March of 2020. You will hear: *completely different pitcher *may have been tipping his pitches *fixed a flaw in his delivery *different mindset after experiencing a year in NY None of that will mean much, unless we hear: *the ball feels back to normal or *debuting his new changeup
  2. The fast food was a result of the government shutdown. The White House staff was not around to cater the meal. I imagine that wasn't an issue yesterday. I don't know if I buy the theory that the fast food is indicative of him looking down on the athletes. After all, Trump is a well known lover of fast food himself. I would guess that once the WH kitchen shut down, his first preference was Whoppers and Big Macs. And I think he is incapable of thinking that anyone would think differently than him. On Edit: More on who he looks down on. I don't think he ever thinks about it too deeply. I think he splits people into two categories. People who like him, and people who don't. I think if he had ever been really accepted by the NY elite, we wouldn't have this right wing conspiracy theorist. But the NY elite didn't accept him. Probably because they felt he was too stupid to get their respect. So he kept talking, and tweeting, and eventually he found an audience that adored him in the deep red states. And here we are.

  4. So we're back to hating the Nationals now right? I don't get it. I really don't. Especially Suzuki. Maybe someone should remind him what xenophobia meant for Japanese Americans of previous generations.
  5. He has no idea. None of us do.
  6. =seawolf17 post_id=25921 time=1572884300 user_id=91] I'm okay with Grandal too. I think he fills a need. I like Ramos, and he hits and gets on base and doesn't strike out, but Grandal is appreciably better.
  7. Would not have guessed I'd be voting for any covers, much less two, featuring Juan Lagares, but here we are.
  8. To be honest, I can't imagine a scenario where this ends well. He won't get the talent he needs to win, and the Wilpons will throw him under the bus at the end of it all. But for today, I am thrilled that Carlos Beltran will once again be a Met. Welcome back Carlos. The Mets are that much classier today just with his presence.
  9. Edgy, do you remember writing a post about Mike Cubbage's name? I forget what player you used as an example, but you used it to describe ex-Cubs. "I'm coming around on Shawon Dunston, but at times it's hard to root for him given how much Cubbage he retains." I stiill think about that every time I see that name.
  10. Good analysis. I think it's hard to compare results over different sports. Baseball, by it's nature, is just more random than basketball. I would guess the same about football, but I don't watch nearly enough to make an assessment. Plus they have a one game winner take all playoff system so I'm sure that helps.
  11. Yeah, I imagine Hamilton is fighting some demons. Still a dickhead though.
  12. Someday when I'm king, I'm going to re-vamp the off-season. When the World Series ends, everyone goes home and rests. Every team has 30 days to rest, celebrate individual awards and focus on their respective Tabloid Cover Derbies. Winter Meetings are held the first weekend of December. Free agency/trades have to be wrapped up by December 20, so that new jerseys can be under the tree by Christmas. Pitchers and catchers report the first week of January. Full Squads by January 15. Spring training games start February 1. Opening day March 1. I know there is the small problem of weather for the month of March, but I'm figuring if the Republicans stay in power, the cold weather will be just a temporary problem.

  14. To which it would be appropriate for a woman (or man if you will) to wear this dress. https://fanatics.frgimages.com/FFImage/thumb.aspx?i=/productimages/_2977000/altimages/ff_2977950alt1_full.jpg&w=325>

I mean ultimately it counts for everything but will he go totally against the recommendation(s) if one guy, maybe not one favored from the prior rounds, "lights up the room" for him? Or, for that matter, we don't know how the power sharing worked up until now; how much of a gap in opinion will it take for Jeff to override BVW and the braintrust? Sometimes I think that the way the Mets operate is that all of this preliminary stuff is mostly a dog and pony show that means shit and the decision is totally the Wilpons. This preliminary stuff is just to trick the GM into thinking that he's calling most of the shots. I don't think the GM thinks for a second that he has any real power. I think he took the job knowing he was signing on to be the spokesman for the Wilpons. The only dog and pony show was interviewing Girardi and Chaim Bloom before him. Like they'd ever consider handing over the reins.
  16. Seaver Steps Away is heartbreaking. Such a classic Seaver pose. Made me sad all over again.
  17. These covers are better than yesterday. Good thing. I was starting to think Ben Grimm had lost a step.
  18. I'm kinda surprised. I would have thought with Girardi having given the Mets the excuse to sign another puppet, that it would have been wrapped up quickly and announced today (only off day until the end of the WS).
  19. In retrospect, locking up deGrom was good. Counting on Cespedes was not smart. If only we could have known that in real time.
  20. Yikes. Embarrassed to say I've never heard of him. In fact, it never occurred to me until now that I didn't know the GM of the '69 team. Thanks guys.
  21. Does Mr. Met really have a flesh colored chest?
  22. Don't Shop Noah is a pretty crappy cover. But considering what a disaster the Cano trade was, I think it's the best of this lot.
  23. =G-Fafif post_id=25292 time=1572229081 user_id=55] Pat Murphy can manage the Mets to a division title in year one, yet he'll rank a distant fourth among significant Met Murphs. But the opportunity to leapfrog Billy Murphy will be right there waiting for him.
  24. Hey Washington fans. Nicely done.
