Sean Reid-Foley? Thomas Szapuki? Patrick Mazeika? Who are these Dark Horse Mets that you speak of? I scanned the spring roster, saw names in italics Fargas, Peraza, Barmes, Mallex Yamamoto was tempting, his curveball is brilliance But it can'r be denied -- my choice is McWilliams Sam is the man you will all come to know All seven feet of him and his afro A reliever whose track record totally sucks Will leave young fans and old thunderstruck He'll emerge from Syracuse in April or May By July fans will pay just to see him play He'll tear up the track like Secretariat Sam McWilliams, the Dark Horse Met Wow. Terrific!
  2. Hey guys. It's that time of year where we pick our out-of-the-blue hero for the upcoming season. The official rules, for everyone's reference: 1. It must be someone who is not on anyone's reasonable radar for this year. So "I think this is the year Michael Conforto puts it all together" is not an acceptable answer. Neither are top prospects on the doorstep that we expect/hope will contribute. So Peter Alonso, get the fuck outta here. The more obscure the better. 2. Contributions must be made at the Major League level. It's fine if you think Simeon Woods-Richardson will catapult to the top of Keith Law's list, but unless he makes contributions in 2019 as a Met, it doesn't count. Feel free to start your own "Dark Horse Prospect" thread. 3. I'm ok with former top prospects who have fallen from grace. So, if a few years ago, you said Dominic Smith, you would have been disqualified. But with all the 1B options now, and Dom basically an afterthought, he's an ok pick. So is former top prospect Bill Pulsipher, if you're inclined to go that route. We don't really have anyone knocking at the doorstep, so unless anyone thinks otherwise, I'm good to allow any rookie. I think Szapucki is the only one reasonably expected to contribute, and expectations are modest. Remember, the more obscure the better. Past winners include: 1977: Lenny Randle 1987: Terry Leach 2006: Jose Valentin 2011: RA Dickey 2012: Scott Hairston 2013: Marlon Byrd 2014: Jacob deGrom 2016: Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo (co-DHMs) 2018: Jeff McNeil 2019: JD Davis 2020: Andres Gimenez

  4. I don't know if Noah will engage this spring, but if he will, I'm all for locking him down.
  5. https://www.pitcherlist.com/wp-content/uploads/WLB-Hughes.png> Jared was responsible for one of the funniest images in recent history. It looks like he's juggling a ball, a bat and a glove.
  6. Mets getting hot and heavy with Taijuan Walker. Per tracky on twitter.
  7. I guess the Mets had no choice but to ditch their Brach. But now they could use a little more support. Not good to just leave them dangling like that.
  8. It is kind of a let down. I like the pictures though. And it gets fun once the games start.
  9. I think a lot hinges on the “new information” they received. If Cohen and company followed up with Wilpon and said “Hey, anything else I should know?” Then good on them. If the information was “wait, this kind of thing gets out? Then maybe we should fire that other guy too”. Then not as great.
  10. And I disagree with the entire strategy of prioritizing Bauer over everyone else. He had the worst character, the worst track record, and didn't want to be here.
  11. Pillar doesn't walk like at all. May barely crack a .700 OPS. Also seems to be an “All Lives” guy. So yay.
  12. I mean. I think they will do something. You don't trade Matz without replenishing the rotation in some way. How much more they do I have no idea. It's been a good winter. Not great, and it fell short of even their stated goals if it ends here. But let's see how it shakes out.
  13. Chapman is good, young cost controlled. The prospect cost would be too high I'm guessing.
  14. Here's how crazy I am. Yesterday. Mike Wazowski and PTBNL for Bryant. Yes? Absolutely! Today. Khalil Lee for Bryant. Yes? What? Our number 7 prospect for a rental?
  15. I guess it's ok so long as the PTBNL is nothing significant. I guess we turned Matz into a CF prospect? Doesn't seem like much of a hitter.
  16. That's right. Helmet. Knee brace. That's all I got on Jed. I thought he'd end up on one of the LA teams. Jeds tend to end up in Beverly. Hills that is.
  17. A Boy Named Seo wrote: The only casualty of the pandemic I'm rooting for is the handshake. What's it even for? I have no desire to hold another human's hand in my own again, then wriggle our arms back and forth. This. Hey nice to meet you, oh we're going super firm? Gotcha. Ok. How long do we hold on?....we're gonna keep shaking throughout this whole introduction? Great. Great.
  18. No mask is the big one. Also Brady jersey.
  19. Cohen made $2 billion+ last year. So he ended up at break even plus the Mets. Cohen is concerned with playing nice, not being taken for a ride, and possibly the non-monetary penalties associated with the tax. He is not, in any way, concerned about the extra $20 million to George Springer or the last few years of the Realmuto deal.
  20. Andy Martino speculates the Mets are largely done. Back end starter, bench guys. No more big ticket moves. Are you happy with the winter?
  21. Picture you're at a karaoke bar. You're listening to the others and having a drink, and then you're just about to the point where you have enough courage to put your name down. Then some asshole gets up and blows away the room. Everyone standing and cheering. Turns out this guy has a recording contract and just happened to be hanging around with his girlfriend. That's what it's like when DGW posts in the “hey let's post our pictures” thread.
  22. Yeah. Springer is the big miss here. I also don't agree that Bauer was the one to prioritize. In the end, they short changed the consistent performer who wanted to be here, and extended themselves for the dickhead with inconsistent results.
  23. It's interesting to see Sandy in action without the Wilpon influence. I agree with the McCann move, though I would have been fine waiting him out to see if anyone else offered four years. Don't know enough about Trevor May, and love the Lindor trade. I disagree about not matching Toronto for Springer, and I think the whole Bauer thing was nuts. I would have offered Brad Hand three years to get him here. I think he has one more big move left this winter. It would be a disappointment if we ended with Almora and Jake Arrieta.
  24. Patrick Mahomes Jr turned out ok.
  25. I don't know that he's even as good as Lagares.
